Love letters written in invisible ink; messages in bottles that didn’t float. May my most sincere words never be discovered…

3 A.M. Musing
I never knew why people got drunk to forget
Until you fell out of love with me.
My mom told me we are not the reflection
Of those who don’t know how to love us.
But your fucking face is still burned on to
The insides of my eyelids
And I promise you no amount of cold showers
Will help you wash off the sleep
From your tired soul.
I’m the type of tired that sleep can’t fix
And I can feel you’re not whole;
I’m rubbing off on you.

It could have been any one of us
Who hasn’t done stupid shit
at night? during the day?
sober? drunk? else?
It’s not about us.
The pain of watching parents shoveling soil
on the grave of the kid.
That shouldn’t happen. That’s not normal.
You left. And they are left with with a scar in the lungs
that will remind of itself with every inhale,
with every exhale

Never has day or night, despite all tears,
Withheld the solemn beauty of a dream;
Yet the sorrows of what is lost, and ghastly fears,
Remain, forever it seems, to violently scream.
The fear of times to come prevails at dawn.
Uncertainty claims the dusk with pride, and casts
A veil of wonder to torment the heart.

With Stomachs crying for food, and Mouths too tired to eat
and Minds too full to any longer indulge,
The wisps of cigar smoke carried on its wing their confessions to God.
Their sins danced around them, on repeat,
shadows lingering, twirling, cast by the fire of their hearts.
Their drinks, a chalice of memories
Exasperated by ignorance and exhausted by intelligence
engrossed by rebellion and enticed by a silence,
One of the men then yelled,
then hushed, he whisper
“oh God, my God, dear God…
…how i miss her.”

Troubled Men
every surface has become so slippery,
riding on a track of trouble shaped as infinity,
another animals skin on his skin,
trying to keep all the bothered thoughts in,
another animals skin on his skin,
trying to keep all the sultriness in.

Willing to pass through once more, hurt the night before I was near the wall that was a door and I could see my own shape, or,
so far as I knew, the casket foretold to the bones I felt them move about and this I know: If it matters to the living take your muse a little beyond where touch is ready for the light. Love as though the Spirit is not asking permission then feel stronger instantly… Stronger.
Go and then effect punctuation. Heal us. Is he on the case? Don’t you see the letters?
