The Beatles - With the Beatles
Music the Most #3
Technically, according to the way I've calculated this little game of mine, the next album in line should be the '63 Please Please Me/Ask Me Why single. Since you can really only find this online, there are a wide range of prices to pay for it. I saw $10-$70. I can't justify paying $10 for two songs, especially if I all ready own them. Ask Me Why is all ready on Please Please Me, its not an unreleased B-Side or anything. So if you want my opinion on them, go back to the Please Please Me note. Out of the two of them my preference would be to Please Please Me. There's the review. Now on the main course! With the Beatles is high up on my list of favorite Beatles albums. It might end up being my favorite album pre-1965. The reason that I love this is because it takes all the awesome things about Please Please Me, cuts out the nothin' and fills in the rest with more of the same. I really hear the Beatles' roots on this album. I can almost hear them playing in some shit hole in Hamburg. There are so many amazing songs on this album. It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven (to satisfy the necessary Chuck Berry contribution), You Really Got a Hold On Me, I Wanna Be Your Man. There isn't a dull moment on this album, so if you haven't all ready, go check it out. Please Mister Postman Please Mister Postman is a Marvelettes tune from '61. First off, well done, boys, for covering a girl group. Second off, extra well done for (in my opinion) improving on the original. John's vocals on this track are so tight I can't handle it. The 3 part harmonies with between John, George and Paul are completely to die for. I just want John to get that letter!! The thing that clinches this song as my favorite on the album (and believe me it had STIFF competition from the songs listed above) is the intro. "Wait! OH yes wait a minute Mr. Postman!" With the drums? Ah, I love it so hard. The ending is the best, when they're all singing "wait a minute, wait a minute, oh yeah!" Talk amongst yourselves.
Regram from @thedailyfeminist and I say HELL YES to this. Stand with Kesha every day. The whole situation is complete garbage and as sick as it makes me to read about it I'm very happy that since last week a day hasn't passed where I haven't seen something related to this online without having to look for it. Keep talking about it and if you don't know then ask. #freekesha #bullshit #sexism #gross #mybatteryisdying @iiswhoiis

The Beatles - Please Please Me
Music the Most #2 So, back to the beginning, we go! I can't tell you how excited I am to finally own this album. It's been on the top of the list in my head for a long time. Unfortunately, other than being somewhat of a completionist when it comes to record collections, I'm also very curious and have musical ADD. So, as much as I've wanted this for a long time, I pretty much knew what I was going to get and there was always some pretty new band out there to get into, or at least something with a curious sounding title that I'd never heard of. Before I purchased this album I had all ready heard half the album, though mostly not the versions that are actually found here. I have to say that having grown up listening to and focusing mostly on familiarizing myself with the latter end of the Beatles chronology it was quite shocking to listen to their very first Parlophone-EMI studio album. It came out the year my mother was born! It's fun to hear these guys playing standards, rather than the ground-breaking material they would come up with later. I have to say, that in terms of other Beatles albums I don't find it amazing. It's good. There are some classics here and some easily forgettable songs, though it should be noted that the forgettable songs include almost all of the songs NOT written by McCartney/Lennon. Even though this will never be my favorite Beatles album, I think its incredibly important to appreciate them for their earlier material to get the full experience of their evolution. I Saw Her Standing There This song has always been one of my favorite Beatles tunes. It makes me feel a bit nostalgic, too, since this was one of the first songs that I sang publicly when I was in the cover band 5th Element at the age of 16...ish. Of all of the Beatles' earlier catalog my favorites are the uptempo numbers, and if you're talking about Please Please Me, this song rocks the hardest without question. Twist and Shout is a close second, and that song's a blast, but I've got to give it to Standing There. It's louder, its faster, it's longer and its a Beatles original. Plus, who can say "no" to those hand-claps?? Thoughts?
