Diversity win! This matriarch dictator is wlw!!
More Yeine
There was a split second of vacuum when Shahar Arameri died.
There always was, when a person died. A hair’s breadth of a moment when the soul vanished away to whatever hell or heaven was its due, and there was nothing quite like it to fill the space. If Yeine listened, she could hear them all around, like an eternal pitter-patter of rain throughout the universe. Likewise was the constant soft melody of souls being born.
This soul, though. This split second of nothingness was longer than usual, as if what was gone was something more than a mere soul, and it was going farther away. That was what caught her attention.
So she was looking when the next important thing vanished, the sun housed in Shahar’s necklace. It was a simple thing, leather and marbles, far too simple for even a fallen Arameri, but it bore the wear of time and love.
(Yeine would have inhaled sharply, had there been the time for it. En. She had forgotten, in her grief; she had not thought to look for it. None of them had. Sieh would have been so disappointed.)
The sun whipped off with the glee of a child’s bouncing ball, across not just time and space but reality. It vanished from where Yeine could sense it before she so much as blinked. It left a plain yellow marble, as dull as any other mortal toy, and an echo of warmth to match the cooling corpse of Shahar Arameri.
This was enough chaos, enough disorder, that she did not need to call. Even suns that were once bouncing balls did not usually move through realities. Itempas was tightly controlled, as was his nature; the shadows flickered for Nahadoth, even though none of the Three manifested physically.
“This is the right path,” said Itempas. It was a statement of fact, with the burning of a thousand suns beneath it. He reached for her hand. “This is how it should happen.”
“So he’s alive,” said Nahadoth, and for the sake of the mortal world around them, he, too, stayed calm. Elsewhere, star systems broke free of gravity’s constraints to dance with wonder and joy. “He’s grown up, but he’s alive.”
She, too, reached for Yeine’s hand, and spoke as exactly as the oldest parent in the universe. “We should visit. Through the gods’ realm, maybe-” He gestured vaguely, the walls between realities little more than roadblocks to the embodiment of chaos with loss beginning to heal in her heart. “We can just look. We can send the rest of the orrery.”
Yeine held them both tightly. The goddess of life and death, she understood a little more; once mortal, she knew perhaps even more than that. “We should give the three of them time to settle in, first. It would be rude to barge in before they’ve made even some planets of their own.”
I’m about halfway through The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin and I will absolutely shirk all of my other responsibilities to draw Nahadoth and his fancy shadow hair
Ok so I wasn't going to get through The Inheratance Trilogy without designing some godlings of my own. I've tried to keep them in line with canon and the way in which gods/godlings work therin. These here are three major godlings of the ocean (who form a minor triad, because nature likes triads... and yes of COURSE it's ocean themed), in order from eldest to youngest;
The Plates "Ka" - With dominion over the tectonic plates their dual aspect comes from the differences seen in land and sea plates. Child of Enefa and Nahadoth. Has many godling children of earth, fire, and stone.
The Current "Ouro" - Dominion over currents both in water and air. Child of Nahadoth and Itempas. Parent of the Tides with Nahadoth.
The Chain "Persnā" - Dominion over life's dependence on the ocean (frequently misunderstood as a godling of the 'food chain' but it is far more complex than that - if anything their dominion is interdependence.) They take many, many forms. Child of Itempas and Enefa. No children.
These three godlings are all fairly old and constitute some of the most major of forces of the ocean and have interesting stories of their own - they all three survived the God's war and make their own way at present. They frequently collude with each other when something is troubling one of them. They are often seen with two other godlings known as The Storm and The Deep.
One more under the cut:
Ok, what can I say, I'm a huge sucker for painfully (rightfully in this case) embittered characters who manage to work through their stuff enough to love.
Ahad and Glee Shoth from the third Inheritance Trilogy by NK Jemisin (The Kingdom of Gods). If there's very little fan art of the three there's even less of these two. These are how I imagine them anyway. I really love the characters in this book.
As a bonus here's Nissa - godling of dreams.
(This reminds me I really need to draw Lil, Seih, and Oree... at some point.)
Sieh when he (now mortal) has to care about mortal affairs
I’m a dirty little Itempas apologist
Mother’s Bane
I'm rereading the series and just finished Broken Kingdoms and god I just love me some Shiny! from a distance of course. Like, of course he's wretched. But...he's just a sad boy. A little mad boy. He died in the trash and woke up in a nice lady's house and she was like totally chill for 3 months. All she asked is that he not try to axe himself in the kitchen anymore and he's like shit, I fucked up, I'm gonna go get her some fish. And he did! And she liked it! And she was so kind to him and he was so at her mercy that when the God of Obligation went to gather her things from her house because drama, he had to bring Shiny, who is basically hers by divine obligation laws. Now her once god pet is now seething with rage because how dare she take me in and care for me like I'm hers. I hate people. But it's what he needs and he can't be alone, but still how dare she. I'm fucking Itempas and She is not Enefa and she won't get away with this. I'm fiercely apologizing to Nahadoth at night on new moon's but he's acting like a BITCH! I fucking hate him, but I love him and I'm so sorry! I love Enefa too, but she stole him from me and nobody seems to CARE! I absolutely refuse to talk to a mortal, gross. But this one is not exactly terrible, I'll make her food and bring it to her, she is blind after all. I'm not a monster.
I’m really rusty on realism but I’ve been reading NK Jemisin’s Inheritance Trilogy and I just HAD to paint Bright Itempas (the way I think Oree might)
Shahar and Dekarta Arameri 💛
Who is your favorite jemisin inheritance trilogy character and why is it Lil
Oree
She was the original, “I can fix him”

Sieh from the excellent Inheritance Trilogy by NK Jemisin!
THE CUTEST OF GODLINGS. 10/10 WOULD SUPPORT IN HIS DESIRE TO KICK HIS DAD’S ASS IN AN ALLEYWAY.
I did a version of this in 2015 and I’m dizzy with my own sense of improvement.
