Danny’s lip curled in a snarl, but it lacked actual aggression towards Syd and more at ease playfulness. “I would have like to see you try, babe.” He challenged Syd at his joke - curious to see what the other was actually capable of if Danny had tried to break in. He was sure, by the underlying tone in his voice, that he wouldn’t have been disappointed. Sipping at his beer, Danny rolled his eyes at the teasing comment but didn’t give a witty comeback. Instead, he leaned forward and snatched the tossed Sudoku puzzle on the table, looking it over. He didn’t know Syd enjoyed those and found it…cute. “You fucked up.” Danny commented as his eyes quickly glanced over the puzzle. “Twice. That’s supposed to be a seven.” He said off-handedly before tossing the book back on the coffee table.
Danny turned slightly on the couch to look at Syd at the playful calling out and snorted, one hand reaching over to shove the other’s knee. “No shit, that’s why I asked: miss me? Dip shit.” Danny jibbed, a smirk pulling on his lips. In all honesty, he’d catch up on town gossip but he had been curious if the other had missed him. The last three days had given him a lot to think about, and even in the midst of cold feet and slightly panic, Danny had come to terms with how he was feeling for Syd and what it meant.
It wasn’t the point of being here tonight, and Danny had never even considered saying anything because it felt…odd to speak it but in burst of lunacy, Daniel decided to go for it. “I’ve a lot of time to think,” Danny laughed lightly, it was all he had time to do lately. He turned to face Syd slightly. “And I’ve been giving it a lot of though and I realized that…. you..” Danny’s brow furrowed in thought, not used being open and discussing shit like this with anyone. Much less admitting an ounce of vulnerability. He would probably only ever do it with Syd. “You are my weakness.” Danny furrowed his brow then, gaze lowered as he shook his head, unsure if that was the right way to say it. He cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable. “I mean, my feelings for you.” His blue gaze lifted then, finding Syd’s and trying to read into his expression, he’d gotten a lot better at it but still often struggled to fully read him. “I’ve never felt like this about anyone in my life before…” He chuckled then, shaking his head as if in pure disbelief at the sappy shit spilling from his lips. But it was true, not with Sofia, not even with Mille and she had been a huge part of his life. “I didn’t even know there were this many feelings to even be had.” He admitted, clearing his throat again. It took a second, maybe two, before Danny pulled himself away from his thoughts and sighed, taking a sip of his beer. “But anyways…”
It was adorable just how ignorant Danny was to the amount of danger he was always in around Syd. The only reason that he hadn’t hurt the older man was that he actually liked him. If there ever came a point where that changed, Syd wouldn’t hesitate to slit his throat and toss his body in the nearest forest where no one would be able to find his remains. Someone’s life rarely held value to him unless he could get something out of it, which meant he wouldn’t think twice to use deadly force if someone broke into his trailer. React first was Syd’s only policy, asking questions only came after if he cared enough. Danny didn’t need to know any of that yet though. “Trust me, there’s no trying, sweetheart.” He smiled tightly at the older man, omitting the part where Danny would’ve been dead a long time ago if that was what Syd wanted. Luckily for him, that’s not what Syd wanted.
Silently he watched Danny grab the Sudoku puzzle, looking it over as Syd took another sip of his beer. Of course, this jackass would tease him for screwing up the sequence. “Fuck off, Danny.” Syd rolled his eyes in mild annoyance, close to smacking the book out of his hand until the other man returned it to the table. The shove of his knee brought back his playful demeanor though, chuckling lightly at Danny’s jib. “You’re cute when you fish for compliments. Was three days too much without Daddy’s attention, baby boy?” Syd mockingly cooed, attempting to catch him off guard to wipe the smirk off of Danny’s face no matter how fucking hot he thought it was. He could’ve admitted three days wasn’t enough to make Syd miss him but where would be the fun in that?
Despite all the fun they were having, Syd had been wondering why the hell it was Danny had shown up at his place after being released. Objectively he knew that Danny had other people he cared about even if it was a foreign concept to Syd, but him being the first hadn’t been what he expected. Their relationship had been nothing but fluid and a good time, which was why Syd wasn’t bothered at the thought of not being Danny’s everything. He might’ve said in the past that the older man was his property but Syd hadn’t truly claimed him yet because of how open-ended their relationship was. Not that he really needed one, just that he was being careful not to make the wrong move that would undo all his hard work. However, all his worries about that had completely flown out the window when the man all but confessed his feelings for Syd in the most adorable schoolboy-ish way. Nothing entertained him more than watching a nervous Danny do anything and this wasn’t an exception. His confession made it hard for Syd to contain his happiness but he refused to turn this into some sappy scene in a chick flick. He would handle it the way he did with everything else. “Aw, what? You wanna be my boyfriend, pretty boy?” Syd teasingly asked, smiling widely at Danny.
