Sorry, everyone, I absolutely swear that I’m not on hiatus-hiatus. There was Anime North last weekend, but my mom was sick for a good chunk of the trip ever since we had gotten on the plane to go there and I must’ve caught what she had or some sort of con plague because I’ve had a cough, fever, fatigue, and occasional migraines ever since we got back. I have cold medicine that’s been kinda helping, though. Unfortunately, next week is when my senior at work is taking her vacation week so I have a full work week ahead of me.

So I’m gonna try to get on when I can, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I haven’t forgotten about this place and I still want to play and RP, but it just might take awhile for everything to even out before I can really settle back in.

Sorry for the absence, everyone. Over the weekend I got busy with our tiny kitten having a maggot in her head; we had to take her to the animal hospital to get it removed safely with surgery. Then I got absorbed with packing and preparing for Anime North this weekend because with my work schedule this week, Thursday morning will be come home from work, take a bath, and head straight to the airport so packing over the weekend was the only time I was gonna have time for doing it.

That being said, unfortunately I’m gonna have to say that I’m gonna take a break until we come home Monday night, but then next week I can definitely get to replies, I promise!! Thank you all for being so patient!

Derrick clumsily swiped at the doorknob, unable to grasp it correctly. Eventually the doll just started clawing at the wooden door. (deprivedofsoul)

Joanne had been in the middle of pruning a houseplant in his dorm, trimming off stems that were showing signs of dying from being overcrowded in the pot. The sudden noise caused him to jump, cutting a fairly healthy leaf off of the plant.

“Ah!” He put down the shears, fidgeting with the poor leave with sadness in his eyes at harming the plant, but he’d have to deal with that later.

“H-Hold on! The door is locked!” the blond called out, trying to rush to the door when the clawing started. What? Now he was worried about unlocking it. “Um…hello?” He pressed his ear against the wood, trying to listen for sounds.

“Oh, hello, Zeno,” Joanne said after overcoming his initial fear of someone being in his room. Why was he looking around, though? “Are you looking for something? I promise I still have my jumper after you went through the trouble of getting it.”

“Me? Ah, well…” he took some time to seriously consider the question. “I’m not sure. I don’t think it’d be likely. If I were to make a career out of one of my hobbies, I think I’d prefer gardening. Even so, as the only son in my family, it’s my duty to fill my father’s shoes when I get older.”

Sorry, I forgot to make a post last night, but I might be a bit scarce or may not be able to get online at all until Friday night or Saturday. I work tonight and Thursday and my job is kinda physically laboring so depending on how bad the workload is, it can really wear me out between shifts. It’s gotten better since all the big holidays are over, but the bakery might get hit a little hard with Mother’s Day being this weekend so there might be a lot to catch up on each night.

When I get home in the morning tomorrow I’ll try and see if I can get to replies, but I may clonk out as soon as I get home.

“A mortician? That sounds pretty great,” Joanne said. “I mean…if you need a mortician then you do want someone that enjoys their job. When there’s a death, it’s already such a hard time, and you want the professionals involved in the funeral to want to do their job properly.”

“Thank you. I could tell I was a bit rusty, but I’m glad I more or less remembered it.”

He moved to turn back around in his seat. “I could tell you have a real love for your craft. I know music is something you have to be diligent about. Have you ever thought about doing it professionally? Like joining an orchestra or putting on your own concerts?”

“Oh, hello, Zeno,” Joanne said after overcoming his initial fear of someone being in his room. Why was he looking around, though? “Are you looking for something? I promise I still have my jumper after you went through the trouble of getting it.”

“That’s amazing!” he cooed. “I could never learn how to play an instrument by myself. Even in choir my instructor would have to remind me to straighten my posture. If I had a flatter head to stabilize one I’m sure he would’ve put a book on top of it to remind me!”

But he thought over the other’s question. “A great number, really. The violin’s his favorite, but he’s a sort of musical genius. I think you could hand him one he hasn’t seen before and he’d start playing it perfectly.”

The silver haired reaper smiled as he listened to Joanne. When they got to the art building Zeno walked over to the guitar in the room and he made sure it was tuned before he started playing “Flaws” by Bastille.

Joanne eagerly went over to the piano seat and sat down, facing Zeno as he played. His scarlet eyes were bright as he listened to the other strum the guitar. The blond was still as a stone, listening intensely until the song was finished.

Beaming widely, Joanne started enthusiastically clapping, his hands almost blurs. “That was amazing, Zeno! I can’t believe you learned to play all by yourself!”

Being bit with the music bug, he grabbed the edge of the piano seat and began moving himself around to face the instrument. “I, uh, I’m a little out of practice, but I’ll try my best.”

He started by cracking his knuckles and hitting a few experimental keys. The first song he remembered was one one of his sisters was intent on him learning so she could sing along with it.

It brought back fond memories to think about it. “I’m afraid I’m not as practiced anymore, but I do sing in the school’s choir!”

“That’s sweet. I was in choir for a year but that was really it. I’d love to hear you play sometime.” He said with a smile. Zeno made sure to put his music sheets in his bag so he couldn’t lose them again.

“Thank you, I’d love to hear you play some time as well,” he admitted. “There’s actually some time before lights out. We could visit the art building and find a place to play, if you’d like. That is, if you’re also not busy.”

“I’d like that. I’m not busy at all.” He placed his hands in his pockets and he tilted his head to the side. “Shall we get going then?”

“Splendid! Alright then, it’s not too far from here.” He opened the door to his room and lead the other out. “So did you learn to play the guitar on your own, or did someone teach you? The Violet Wolf prefect teaches himself instruments all the time; it’s amazing.”

He tilted his head to the side. “I didn’t know you were into music, Zeno. What instrument do you play?”

In modern times, Joanne probably works at a bath store like Lush or Bath & Bodyworks.

One of his sisters probably worked at the store before he did and put in a good reference with her old manager when he applied. He makes a lot of sales for being absolutely charming, and his sisters love taking advantage of his employee discount. 

Since he’s an employee and his sisters purchase a lot, he uses a lot of them himself though after multiple incidents there was a serious family meeting about the abuse of salts and bombs making the bathtubs slippery. He loves using shea butter cream on his hands and feet to keep his skin from drying, and uses body sprays after bathing and showering instead of cologne.
