Welcome to the Tumblr for the roleplay forum The Queen's Games! We are a fantasy roleplay set loosely in Tamora Pierce's Tortallan universe. The story of the Queen's Games, however, takes place far across the Emerald Ocean, in our own country, Kalim, and the surrounding lands. Kalim is a matriarchal society fighting for survival against the domination of the Darshani Empire steadily consuming the other nations on the continent.

24 (b. 580) - Prince of Kalim - The Pretty Brother

Lerant is a very open canon. His path in life (military? scholar? layabout?), magical ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, hopes and dreams, and most nuances of his personality are entirely up to his player.

What we do know:

Lerant is prone to harassing and teasing his younger siblings and has been accused of having a pathological need to have someone paying attention to him.

He is very competitve.

Lerant married Princess Batari for political reasons three years ago. She is very competitive. The results have been both wonderful and disastrous, as most of their relationship is built on "anything you can do, I will do so much better." Does he like her? At least well enough. Does he love her? Up to you.

He has been head-canoned as someone who makes friends easily and doesn't hesitate to throw his wealth and status around to show his friends a good time, but that is easily changeable if it doesn't suit your Lerant.

He does not identify as female. If he did, he'd be in a position to inherit. Cis, trans, genderqueer, even femme non-binary are all fine, but if he identified female, he'd be heir to the throne of this matriarchy, and he isn't.

Fantasy RP Seeks Roving Band of Assholes

Story time! The Queen's Games takes place in Kalim. 12 years ago, its neighbor to the south (Khiros) was taken over by the Darshani Empire. After a failed rebellion, what was left of the Khirosian resistance fled to Kalim and became a merc band known as the Eversworn. Since then they've been defending the border and trying to rally support to retake their country. These are their stories. (DUN DUN.)

So this is really a pretty open ad. I play a character who is Captain of a squad in the Eversworn and I want some more of his people around, since they're most of who he gets friendly with. Characters can be any age over 15, any ethnicity, any gender, any orientation, etc. Though the typical image of the Eversworn is of Khirosian natives (knights, rangers, soldiers, and civilians) fighting for the resistance, a huge part of their forces are also made up of deserters of other armies, convicts who chose to enlist rather than face execution or hard labor, refugees from various countries, and sundry other desperate or idealistic souls. This squad in particular ends up with a lot of convict-soldiers, deserters, and cast-offs.

Their Captain is Cieran of  House Embershore, a Khirosian knight whose gender-divergent tendencies, open sexuality, defensive nature, and general hard-assery have not made him a lot of friends. Soldiers who are loyal to him tend to be rabidly so, though certainly not all of them are. Due to reassignment, a lot of his people may be new to him (within the last year), but those who came with him from before that have come through a lot with him and probably fall into the 'rabid loyalty and affection for his socially inept eccentricities' category. The only specific request I have is for the group's new lieutenant (the captain's right-hand). His name is Pierce of House Riverwatch, mid-20s, Khirosian native and former Ranger. In three words he is clever, compassionate, and just though what he is beyond that is up to you. I'm suggesting him as Cici's new lieutenant in the interest of killing two birds with one stone, because he is also my character Alys's cousin. (Pierce's gender is flexible, but when he and Alys were growing up together at least, he was presenting/identifying as male.) I like the idea of him being brand new to the group, intended to provide a cooling balance to Cieran, and possibly still not sure what the hell to do with this group. If you see it differently/him having a history with some of them or having been assigned longer, I'm down to talk that out.

Currently the group is assigned to help keep the peace in one of Kalim's major cities due to recent upheaval, but future events on the site look to have them retaking Khiros from the Empire. Other notes: I really want to develop some deep and nuanced relationships for this character. It's fine for your character to have hang-ups about Cici's sexuality, but I don't want to deal with that OOC.

Valentine's Day Posting Party?

So Lykoi & I were discussing having (or not having) plans for Valentine's Day and thought it could be an opportunity for a little impromptu event on QG - an all-day posting party, either just of the regular sort, or perhaps with little games/mini-events for laughs.

Non-members, former members, inactive members, etc. would be absolutely welcome! It's as much about the company as the posting.

If this sounds good to anyone, please let me hear from you! If you have ideas for games, etc. I'd love to hear them, too!

The violent upheaval in Kalim's criminal community has gone on for too long, crippling the country's infrastructure. It has been months since the military occupied Kalim's largest cities to enforce peace, and the shadows are still filled with heated battles to see who will fill the power vacuum. With greater threats on the horizon, the Crown has ordered that the conflict must be settled, by whatever means. Agents of the New Rook Council have uncovered evidence of a violent military purge planned to rid the cities of corrupting influence. Such a drastic measure can only drag innocents down with is intended targets. Time is wearing thin as both Guards and Rooks scramble to contain the situation and prevent the tide of loss threatening the cities. --- Our first event, Cops & Robbers, features six possible outcomes determined by player participation. Characters may opt to support the New Rook Council, Provost's Guard, or the Military, or forge the dangerous path of trying to seize power in the underworld for themselves. Players who want to participate without taking sides will have plenty to do helping the common folk stay alive. The event brings unique quests and achievements that can only be claimed while the event is in progress, so sharpen your blades, get your whistles ready, and get out there!

The State of The Realm The Queen’s Games is a role play site based off of Tamora Pierce’s Tortall series, but is on a continent across the sea to the west. The matriarchy of Kalim is struggling with keeping their Rooks (this site’s name for the Rogues) under some guise of control. We are just getting rolling again after a hiatus and are kicking it off with a new Event System, beginning with an Event titled “Cops and Robbers” on January 1st! The past year and a half has seen a lot of unrest within the Rooks. Assassinations of people in high places and crews attacking each other over long held feuds started happening more and more often. The Dogs did what they could to keep the damage to a minimum, but when the clashes between Rook factions became more frequent and more bloody, the Crown called for martial law. Soldiers and knights were brought in to reinforce the Dogs and help crack down on the Rook uprising, and it worked well enough. The Rooks are starting to finally reorganize with a Council of their leaders, but there’s still a lot of tension and the Dogs are expected to keep everyone safe. We also have an upcoming Event that would benefit from a few more lawkeepers in any of the major cities. Specific Character Ideas Concepts you CAN work with to get started, but are NOT REQUIRED.

Jamie needs a partner, someone to balance her impulsiveness and to think where she acts. They have probably been working in Havran for most of their career and assigned to work with Jamie since she transferred from the River Cities last year. Jamie has a tendency to run her partners off, but with the recent Rook uprising she would have tried to stick with this one.

Alex is a straight-laced Dog. It’s all about upholding the law, regardless of if it’s the best law, and they don’t much like the deals that others make with Rooks. Depending on how they present this attitude, they can be respected or thought of as too idealistic.

Kadin used to be a lot more light-hearted, but lost a lot of friends in the Rook uprising. The emotional weight has been difficult to bear, but until things start calming down, Kadin has decided to set it aside.

Sam has been working overtime, and it shows. Sam has a family member higher up in the Rooks and has tried to distance themselves from that connection for years. They might decide to protect this kinsman, or use the connection to draw them out.

Wynne and Jones are Puppies. They joined when the Provost called for more recruits when the tensions with the Rooks were rising. Wynne has more heart than muscle to back it up and Jones spends a lot of time looking out for them.

CASSANDER OF BLADESINGER

20-21 | Khirosian Knight | Heir to Bladesinger

Cassander was only seven when the Darshani Empire invaded his homeland for the first time. Under the Empire's heel, his family and others plotted to regain Khiros's independence, but betrayal from within ruined the rebellion before it could truly begin, and at only fourteen, Cassander and his family fled the country to neighboring Kalim, losing many along the way.

It has been seven years since their escape, and in that time Cassander has earned his shield in the eyes of the rebel force now calling themselves the Eversworn, but his father, a Commander in the Eversworn, has fought hard to keep him away from the action. His over-protectiveness cuts at Cassander's confidence, adding to the pressures of being heir to such an important family and to Cassander's enduring need to prove his worth. His sister Anraide is his most stalwart supporter, eager to fight anyone who doubts her brother's ability for a moment. The two have been close since childhood, even more so since losing so much of their family, and their complimentary strengths make them a political power house befitting of one of Khiros's greatest families.

30 | Knight of Kalim | The Good Twin

Gary is the good twin, though that's not a difficult feat when your brother blacks out and stabs people when he gets too anxious. He has known about Mordred's condition for years and worked hard to help his brother stem the attacks throughout knight training. They have been apart for some time, Mordred at the border and Gary home with a wife and young son, but unrest in Kalim's cities has brought them both back to Richilde, working to contain the riots.

Gary is very open to player interpretation. The details of his relationship with his wife and brother, his feelings on being close to Mordred after so long, his magical capability, and so forth are all open.

THE QUEEN'S GAMES is calling for ladies to join Princess Melusine's entourage!

Young ladies of noble birth, between the ages of 15 and 20, these girls are powerful and well-educated. Where the Convents of other countries focus on "ladylike" arts, Kalim's Convent delves deeply into wide range of academic subjects, politics, languages, magic, and combat. As Melusine's entourage, they ride and hunt with her as well as accompanying her to the most elite social functions.

These ladies are largely up to player interpretation! Magic, inheritance status, sexuality, abilities, interests, and personality are all up for grabs, but bear in mind they are intended to be a group of friends for the princess (or at least good at faking friendship), so a perusal of her personality is suggested! It should go without saying, but to clarify this group is not only available to cis women; we would love to see some trans ladies in this group.

What are the Coursers?

The Coursers are a light cavalry unit blending combat styles from various countries to engage larger numbers of enemies in hit-and-run style combat. They're kind of like Tortall's Queen's Riders.

Who do they take?

Any Gender

15 and older, so long as able to serve

Any social class

Combat or horsemanship experience preferred but not required

Does not accept members from other military divisions (i.e. Knights) unless transferred or discharged.

Is there anyone they especially need or want?

Along with the standard fare of recruits, I'm hunting for two officers. These two were hand-picked by Queen Meisant for their exceptional military records and for their temperaments. As the Coursers are presently a very small organization, these two and Braith are the only officers, and their word carries a lot of weight. They have worked together in the past, and are assigned both to aid the establishment of the Coursers and to keep a close eye on Braith and report back to Meisant any concerning activity.

SEVERIANO REYES 30s - 40s • Gender: Open • Courser Lieutenant: the Soft Touch

Easy smiles and disarming charm, Severiano (or whatever his shortened nickname is) was assigned to the Coursers for three strong reasons: 1.) As a strong masculine presence and experienced soldier, he could establish a feeling of common ground and respect with Braith and talk him around. 2.) His camaraderie with the recruits could serve to smooth over some of Braith's rough edges. 3.) He might be the only person on the continent who could keep Lali from strangling their young Commander...

EULALIA "LALI" ARROYO 25 - 45 • Gender: Open • Courser Lieutenant: the Strong Arm

Lali was warned coming in that her job would not be easy. As a decorated army veteran who joined up about as young as you can, her record demands respect. Placed squarely in front of a strong-headed patriarchal foreigner, granted a position of authority and royal permission to take no shit, she is there to assure that Braith's views are shifting in a way that suits Kalim's interests. Despite her hard-nosed reputation, she inspires a certain amount of affection and loyalty from many soldiers, though most often from a safe distance.

KESSLER OF RICHILDE

20-21 | Prince of Kalim | Knight of the Realm

Kessler has never been good at sitting still. As such, knighthood seemed like a natural course of action for him, but with three years on his shield now, he wishes someone would just let him do something! He has always been close with the crown princess, but his proximity to her has often caused him to be overshadowed, fostering in him a desperate need to prove himself and be useful as something more than a marriage alliance. In his time on border tour, he became more familiar with the Eversworn and admires them greatly. Their fervor and (some would say brash) determination to act speaks to his desire for action, and he longs to be sent to their aid. For the good of the people! For the glory of the fight! Just... not for a wedding, please!

MIA PRIETO

Early 20s | Rook Chief | New Council

Any skepticism due to Mia's young age is quickly settled by her unquestionable capability. Appointed crew chief to a group of rooks in Alora at a young age, Mia earned they loyalty and respect, growing her reputation when she stepped into the shoes of the district chief following their death in the conflicts with the Richilde Council. Her rooks rally behind her with a mad faith and dedication, supporting her rise to the new rook council as a voice for the people of the River Cities. As sort of a grass-roots contender, her support having truly come from the ground up, her people hope she will act as a voice for even the lowest in the River Cities, fighting for their interests in what they perceive to be a den of wolves.

The Gift? The Sight? Wild Magic? We want it all!

The Mages' Academy at Havran has begun recruiting talents from across the world, both alumni and newcomers. Under direct orders from the Queen, the Academy has begun a secret project to defend the country against the threat of invasion by the Darshani Empire. The lower levels have been sealed as research wings. The only people in and out are bound by oaths of secrecy. The Academy, usually notorious for its wild parties and flagrant disregard for tradition, has taken on an air of mystery and apprehension. Many of its best and brightest students have been recruited to the research, but those best and bright and irresponsible who may have been left out have started to turn all their ingenuity towards finding out exactly what sort of party they haven't been invited to.

Nsia was sent to the University of Carthak at a young age, her magic already manifesting in grand and sometimes hazardous displays. By the time she left the University, she had a red robe to her name, the second highest classification the University awards. The Havran Academy invited her to Kalim to teach and to assist with a massive, highly confidential research project. She has quickly gained a reputation among her students as no one to be trifled with. Nsia is a transwoman and should not be apped as cis.

Mid 20s - Early 30s | Arms Merchant | Opportunist

Fast-talking and charismatic, Gan is an arms dealer from Huainan come to Kalim to cash in on growing tensions with the Darshani Empire. He seeks to open a steady exchange: his access to steel, gunpowder, and specialized weaponry in exchange for Kalim's generous limestone stores. Though this enterprising young businessman has got his lips to a few noblewomen's ears, he has his work cut out for him getting into their purses, and if the strings prove too tight, hey, he hears those Khirosians are getting pretty desperate.
