What Are You Trying to Prove?
Back in the day, whenever I was up to my usual antics of being a fucking weirdo, my mum would often comment to me, âWhat are you trying to prove?â  As in, by doing whatever I was doing, who was I trying to impress?
Well, my conversation with Mary Jane came up with some interesting thoughts that might be worth mentioning. Â That has to be the question that we should always ask of ourselves. Â What our driving force is, how to maintain momentum or ease into a slower pace, a slightly out of reach goal that keeps us sane whilst waking up at 6 every morning and finally finding your free time between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Â
You live your live everyday and you can choose to be hamster that lives in its cage until its final twitch, or you can be the rogue rodent that makes it out of the cage, and risk the freedom of a front yard, or the harsh reality of a Firestone.  Or just be the hamster who yearns for something more than food and the fascinating shutter effect that is probably the rudimentary idea behind âmotion picturesâ when heâs getting fit.  No, this hamster is aware that there is perhaps a better world out there, but food is constant, thereâs shelter, nobodyâs trying to swallow it, and there was only a strange incident whereas it had the freedom to roam, but only within the confines of the ownerâs naked body. Â
Trying to prove to your spouse youâre good enough, trying to earn that father of the year cup you just received for Christmas, trying to prove to your mother that moving to a new country for a fresh start was the best decision sheâs ever made for your life... Â there are millions of variations of what youâre trying to prove and to whom. Â Even without the co-dependence that is implied, you may just be trying to prove that youâre brave enough - with the minimal strength to be able to get your ass over to that girl over there, and just smile and say hi. Â Without the boner this time, preferably.
So if you find yourself in a looping dump, with nothing to live for, cancel that Uber call to the bridge. Â Try to prove someone wrong.
