het ships with PoC is still extremely rare and uncommon.
het ships with PoC are still looked down on especially if one member of the ship is white. (example: finnrey)
het ships with PoC are nowhere near as common as white/white het ships.
stop treating het ships with PoC as if they’ve had the same amount of recognition and popularity as white/white het ships, because they haven’t. at all.
regardless of your orientation, if you are a white person who shits over het PoC ships you are a racist. you clearly have 0 idea of our long, long history with colonisation which has desexualised and hypersexualised us.
just because they’re in a relationship with someone of another gender, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re heterosexual either.
i’m praying this doesn’t get hijacked by another racist again
My experience with (white) fandom:
Fans are quicker to support a same sex relationship with white guys who have no chemistry/ never interacted than a het relationship with a poc (see Pacific Rim)
Another variation: White fans bending backwards for their white ships (het and gay) i.e. condoning incest, pedophilia and abuse (see Supernatural & Thor: Ragnarok) instead of supporting a canon couple involving a poc
Even when a poc is canonically with a white character, people suddenly cry outrage and want a “strong independent woman” to break up the couple. Woc, especially Black women, get this treatment (e.g.: Michonne from Walking Dead).
The poc in a relationship with a white person is swiftly sidelined and replaced by another white character (see Flash, Supergirl etc).
In the small amount of relationships with one poc involved, it’s almost always with a white person (really tired of this, especially with South Asian men always choosing white women: Lion, The Big Sick, Master of None etc).
Interracial het couples with 2 poc are an extreme rarity (I can think of Mississippi Masala, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Set it Up and Timeless)
When characters of color need to be left alone,they’re desperately shipped in an unhealthy relationship with a white person (see Shuri, a literal child, and Bucky from Avengers).
When there’s LGBT ships of color, they are ignored in favour of white LGBTQ relationships even if they’re abusive (see Moonlight, Black Lightning, Rafiki Vs Call me by your Name).
I have never ever seen a poc shipped with someone else outside of canon.
So don’t tell me how shipping your same sex bland white characters together is revolutionary. It’s not, especially if it’s at the expense of a poc. You’re just racist.
Call me when couples involving poc and the poc in question get the respect they deserve.
Het couples involving two poc are rare, it is mostly moc with white women with woc being completely absent (Aquaman) or a joke (Today’s Special)
And a variation:
People who watch anime drawing/“headcanoning” Japanese characters as white. Sure, there are white anime characters (Ed Elric jumps immediately to mind), but if you try to tell me Tsukino Usagi who lives in Juuban-Tokyo and has parents named Kenji and Ikuko and notoriously fails at English is white, like…..um. No.
Written or drawn correctly, these are ships and characters people in the West would view as POC, but they get whitewashed all too often just because they’re drawn in canon with light skin.
