This man thrives in the chaos of the ED, he doesn’t even notice all the background noise at this point. Yelling kids, beeping everywhere, that one patient that won’t stop screaming for no reason. You gotta have a noise filter, ignore the average, but catch the codes.

Because of where his hospital is located, he gets a decent amount of rural patients. Translation: when the farmer comes of his own volition? Grab the crack cart. Now.

Will enter the room in a sing song voice saying “Here comes the med fairy!” whilst holding a syringe.

Once had a patient tell him they would only take their meds if he beat them in Mario Kart.

Meds were taken.

He’s the magic printer fixer. He doesn’t do anything but stand in the room and it starts working. When he’s off shift, they use a rubber duck with the Australian flag on it. The chance that the duck works is 50/50.

Was floated to the ICU once. Once.

Tries to pretend that he was not admitted to this exact hospital for alcohol poisoning when he was in college. The charge remembers, never lets him forget.

Gilbert is the paramedic that signs up to work the medical team at concerts and stuff. About half of the time, he convinces Ludwig to do it with him.

80% of this guys job is dealing with intoxicated people, meaning he is the best at “street pharm bingo” (aka “figuring out what the hell this patient took). Part of the reason he’s so good at guessing is because he tried most of that shit in college.

If they’re working the same concert, Ludwig and Gilbert are almost always put on “porta-potty check”. Prussia has had to teach Germany the valuable lesson of “if the porta-potty is moving and unlocked, do not look in”. Ludwig made that mistake a total of once.

Prussia has become the patient while on the medical team once or twice. Usually after going into a mosh pit.

Unless there’s a higher up around, professionalism barely exists.

Bro’s approaching patients yelling “YUUURRRR!” and has no issue telling someone they’re full of shit.

“You haven’t had any drugs today? Ok, then explain to me why you’ve got white powder on your nostrils? Something tells me it’s not powdered sugar my man.”

Has told cops to fuck off dozens of times, especially when they ask “what did he take?” That information is between medical personnel and god, get out of my face.

He and France have defiantly hit on a patient as EMTs and immediately been smacked upside the head by whichever paramedic they were with that day. (Germania)

He somehow manages to get ALL the calls for the frequent fliers (especially the drunks). You know you’re in a bad spot when Gilbert knows your name.

Lowkey high key flirting with Hungary whenever they’re coming in to her hospital. Started out legit, but now it’s just a game they both play.

Matthew and Alfred working at the same hospital: Canada is a nurse, America is a doctor. (ED/MedSurg maybe)

Canada is constantly having to drag America into his patients room to tell the patient the exact same information he just said. For whatever reason, Matthew’s patients are almost always asking to have a doctor do everything. (More so than the average nurse deals with)

Putting in an IV? Can you call in a doctor to do that? (Sure I’ll grab the guy who hasn’t done this in 5 years, no problem)

Explaining their care plan? Alfred needs to come in and repeat it.

Telling your patient that they cannot eat because they might be going into surgery today? Double check with the doctor, please.

The IV one is Matthew’s favorite, though. Every time the patient requests the doctor to do their IV, he is all too happy.

For one, Alfred always tells the patient “It’s alright, it’ll be good practice for me” which always stops the patient. He then explains that he hasn’t placed an IV since med school. If the patient lets Alfred place the IV, Matthew gets to revel in his brother’s struggle.

When he misses it (not if, when), Alfred will offer either a second try or letting Matt take over. They always choose Matthew.

Hungary has made it her personal mission to build up Canada’s confidence. She watched the poor guy let doctors (not his brother) talk down to him, yell in his face, and walk all over him for the entirely of his first week.

If there is a combative patient, there is a ranked list of who gets called in. It all depends on who’s on shift. Matthew is always number 2, right behind Ludwig. (I might make the full list later).

Some-fucking-how, Canada manages to work as a nurse and play for a local hockey club. Does he sleep? I really don’t know.

Hockey was a secret until he ended up in the ED needing stitches.

Why did he need stitches? Someone shoulder checked his goalie.

He won that fight, but at some point he hit his chin on the ice. (Yes, the pressure from hitting you chin on the ice can cause a cut)

Ludwig is that one male nurse that gets sent in for the creepy guy patients.

Some guy tells the female nurse (maybe Hungary) to “hold it” when he uses the bathroom? Well now you’ve got big buff Ludwig to help you.

Guy keeps making sexual remarks to his nurse? Ludwig, along with a lecture on sexual harassment.

Sometimes, they don’t even need him to take over. He might be asked to stand next to the other nurse and glare. Usually, the guy has a “sudden change of heart” (fear)

Despite this, Ludwig is still the baby of the unit. Yes, he is a capable and wonderful nurse, but he’s the little brother/nephew. He often trains new people, still the baby.

Often drinks beer on his days off. Partially because it’s the only time he can and partially because then he legally can’t come into work if they try to call him.

That isn’t to say that he hates his job, quite the opposite. He’ll pick up shifts and come in when help is needed, but everyone has a limit. It’s like an insurance policy for your days off.

Being the baby, Ludwig’s crush on a certain paramedic is the talk of the unit. Teasing, advice, coping, and the like.

Ludwig has reservations about dating someone in the same field, especially when said person is at his hospital so often. He’s worried that it will cause issues, arguments, resentment, etc. and really doesn’t want that to happen with Feli.

The set up is mostly done by Hungary. Those boys liked each other so much and it was driving her INSANE!

They are the best partners to come home to after a long shift (all of them). Food is already made, alcohol is present if wanted (usually), shower is prepped, and pajamas set out, all before the other even enters the apartment.

Feli wants cuddles after a long shift, but Ludwig needs some space for the first little while.

I’m definitely doing more of this

Italy is the paramedic who’s not allowed to drive to/from calls, with one exception. We need someone to get us to the hospital as fast as humanly possible? Italy drives. You know we’re fucked when someone throws him the keys.

Speed limits? Ignored.

Bumps? Hold on tight.

Sirens? Louder than the trumpets of the Rapture.

That 20 min drive? 5 mins, baby.

He’s never been in an accident, on shift or otherwise, but he’s not allowed to drive for the sake of everyone else’s souls staying in their bodies.

I like to think that the only thing that Arthur taught Alfred that stuck with him is his version of a “polite guest”.

I mean the people who were basically told not to breathe without permission when you’re at someone else’s house.

I don’t mean that Alfred is like that with people whose houses he’s been to for years. I mean any country that he doesn’t know well or at all, he freezes in their house.

He needs to be explicitly told that he can do anything or he will just stand there with the internal anxiety of a wet chihuahua. Outwardly, he looks normal, just won’t do anything.

I know this doesn’t match up with canon, I just think it’s funny.

Imagine the first time he goes to Francis’ and constantly has to be reassured that he can sit down wherever. Ludwig is wondering why loud, boisterous Alfred is suddenly sitting ramrod straight not having moved the whole time he’s been there. Alfred trying to explain to Kiku that the reason he hadn’t drank anything the entire day they were at his house, is because Kiku never said he could.

Matthew is also like this, so when they go to a new house together, they just stick together. I’m imagining the two of them sitting on a couch, backs straight, hands on their knees, awkwardly trying to seem normal.
