Tap for quality boost! Calling it quits on this one. 15ish hr Ilsa study. May or may not sell prints in this style on my Etsy...I'll let you guys know if that happens. π
PA: The eye brow lift...eye contact...and the smirk from Ilsa to Ethan in this scene is everything. That is all.
Got a new graphite brush pack! Ils' WIP

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation behind the scenes ππ
Re-watched Dead Reckoning recently for the first time probably since theaters in 2023. It's crazy to see how underused Ilsa was in this film. There were many opportunities to utilize her character the right way that passed the script by.
In terms of her living, I've always thought of Ilsa having a place in the Orient Express scene (you know the one with the hand reaching for Ethan π) the shock of her being alive and then the jump straight into action would have been awesome and heart pumping. In this scenario the fight scene with Gabriel would have to be restructured in a way where she escapes but Ethan thinks she is dead (the Entity could be tricking him).
Another scene I wished she would appear in that is more plausible is the airport scene. If we HAVE to go with the story of her 'getting back into trouble/the game' might as well full send it with her helping Ethan since they are both technically in the same boat of 'the world coming after them.' (for different reasons). Ilsa often devulges into helping Ethan anyways, despite her loner nature, he is the one person she has a connection with, and in a way it's her buying time with him because the only way they can be 'together' is at work. Doomed coworkers
Ethan and Ilsa go it a pair to the airport, looking for the key. Ethan begrudgingly lets her help. There's kind of this reminiscence/just like old times vibe to it, akin to the opera heist. They have a good back and forth. Then they meet Grace and of course she outsmarts them both in different ways, with her pickpocketing and deception. Meanwhile, at some point Ilsa diverts Jasper and Degas to help Ethan, and then they realize over comms that they just encountered Ilsa Faust, known former MI6 disavaowed agent, wanted for 50 million dollars, who is STILL alive and not killed by mercenaries. At that point they are chasing both of them and that is the plot thread that continues through the whole story. I know McQ had his reasons for where he decided Ilsa fit in the script, but man, I feel like we missed out on a lot.
Okay end of my DR thoughts.
I mentioned this in my postscript of The Final Reckoning but for some reason I absolutely LOVED the art behind how they weave "but you can, Ilsa" into the scene. Layers and layers of dread there and for me, agonizingly pulling that string of friendship between Benji and Ilsa.
And for some reason Eddie describing it as "Benji['s voice] turning into the Entity" has always made me lost my mind..... I have had vivid images of Benji being possessed by the Entity since listening this ages ago (I've been super wary posting my M:I takes after the highly unpleasant incident).
Anyway... super underrated friendship, already outlined for my next to write list π
