A glitched speedrun for Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion. Using the inventory glitch, I start the game with the crystal and crowbar, which lets me go...
Arglefumph just found a Nancy Drew cheat menu that’s in ALL Nancy Drew games!!
Sometimes I play the game as Nancy and sometimes I play the game with Nancy and they are entirely different gaming experiences.
And I think this is one of the biggest differences for me from the earlier games to the newer ones. It is a lot easier to play the newer ones WITH Nancy, especially in SPY, because Nancy is so well characterized through her dialogue and the sound of her voice, and in the older games it is a lot easier to play AS Nancy.
And the best part is that both ways are valid and both ways are possible with all the games, and that the things you take from each playthrough depend just as much on the game itself as on you and how you were playing.
Both experiences draw on emotions and your immersion in the game differently and idk i just really like this series.
That’s an interesting perspective!
I just found the funniest Spanish translation of a Nancy Drew game strategy guide of all time. Whoever translated it just put the game’s description in Google Translate and used what came out.
Its title is “Nancy dibujó: Mensaje en una guía frecuentada de la estrategia de la mansión.” This translates to “Nancy drew: Message in a Mansion’s Strategy’s Frequented Guide.” NOT “Nancy Drew”; “Nancy drew”, as in, “Nancy drew a picture.” Description: "According to legend, a treasure at long-lost gold is hidden somewhere on the characteristic, and someone has decided to find it! In a house fully of doors of traps and secret tunnels, breaking the crystal and suspicious fires, Nancy’s means of a false step won’t put a ghost of an opportunity! Find the treasure use this great strategy guide!” The guide goes on to say that if you want to buy the game, you have to get a job at big fishes (i.e. go to Big Fish Games’ website). I found the original page that this was copied from on Big Fish here: http://www.bigfishgames.com/games/5593/nancy-drew-haunted-mansion-strategy-guide/
Oh yeah, and the game features: * Advantageous end points and tricks * Screenshots of in-game * Find the ancient treasure! But my favorite part is that they translated “Hard Drive” (el disco duro) into “Impulsión dura” (“Hard Impulsion”). Even Google isn’t *that* bad!
Clue Crew Fandom Map
I don’t know if anyone would really be interested but I thought it was cool and it was easy. I got the idea from Mar here http://futuremrsfitz.tumblr.com/post/142840414026/pll-fandom-map
The map plots where everyone in this fandom is from. If you can see, there is already a single marker on the map, which is me. If you would like to plot yourself on the map, all you have to do is follow the instructions below.
Instructions:
1) Click this link https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1958057&location=Chicago%2C%20IL%2C%20United%20States
2) On the left click Additions and then click Add Marker
3) a box should pop up, put your URL in Entry Name, type your location in the Location field, add something to Description if you want, choose a marker color, and hit Submit
4) Your marker should pop up and you’re done!
yessssss 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This is so cool
It’s filled up so much! Even clue crewers without a blog have added themselves!
No one from France or Germany? Maybe HeR should have translated the games into Spanish instead of French and German!
Danger on Deception Island: Remastered
I’m playing DDI for the first time now and that’s exactly what I was thinking!
Holy crap, you’re right.
what nancy drew game(s) do you think have the best replay value?
I think I have played SHA and ASH the most out of the games!
^ same, I’d also add WAC
WAC and VEN are probably the two I’ve played the most.
I’ve played DOG many times over the years. Apart from having a really beautiful soundtrack, some very enjoyable settings, and a tough set of puzzles which I’ll someday be able to do all of without consulting a walkthrough, it also has a surprisingly rich backstory which I’ve gotten more out of each time I’ve played the game.
DOG is really unique among the Nancy Drew games because you can draw a clear line through American history between Moon Lake from before the USA was established and present-day Moon Lake. As I’ve grown up, I’ve developed a more mature understanding of topics such as the USA’s historical relationship with Native Americans, Prohibition, Mickey Malone Al Capone, the Pinkerton agency, FDR’s efforts to counteract the fallout from the Great Depression, and more, all of which help me better understand and put into a historical perspective the fascinating, layered (albeit fictional) history of Moon Lake.
As a kid, I would skip over DOG’s “ancient history” sections involving reading and contextualization to get to the fun, exploratory bits of the game where I could explore the woods, take pictures of birds, and collect bugs. As an adult, though, those reading sections have become my favorite part of the game because they really enhance my experience. After all, DOG’s rich history isn’t just for show; its history is alive. Almost everything you see in the present has clear roots in the past, and that makes DOG so dang cool to me:
1. Vivian, an old former love interest of Malone, forms a tangible human connection to the past, with whom we can chat and even exchange mail.
2. Jeff Akers grew up in Moon Lake because of the complex decisions his grandfather William Akers made (which you get to read about in detail), and he's as stringent as he is on observing park rules because he doesn’t want to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, the right-hand man to a notorious criminal.
3. Em’s shady lake-dredging side business is possible because of all the rich, famous people you hear about visiting Mickey Malone’s cabin by boat during Prohibition who occasionally dropped their valuable possessions into the lake. Em is able to make as consistent a profit as she does because there were so MANY of those people - “You weren’t big-time unless you’d made at least one trip to Moon Lake Mickey’s.”
4. The tunnels in which Mickey Malone placed his saloon existed well before he bought the property, having been excavated to be used as part of the Underground Railroad around the time of the Civil War.
5. You can read about how Malone had ordered for the graveyard and the final dog puzzles with all the big paintings to be put into place just before he went to prison; even the seemingly-obscure puzzles have a bit of backstory!
6. The Moon Lake Park Ranger Station was built by the CCC during the Great Depression as part of FDR’s New Deal.
7. The high levels of arsenic found in the well water probably aren’t caused by the culprit trying to poison Sally, but rather by having several dozen (likely low-quality) gold bars sitting at the bottom of the well for the last seventy years. Arsenic dust gets released as byproduct of gold processing, which is why so many water sources near gold mines are contaminated with arsenic. It’s taken me fourteen years to realize that! :D
8. And, of course, Mickey Malone’s dogs: Xander, Iggy, Vitus, and Lucy. Not only are they the basis of every major puzzle Her Interactive Malone put in Moon Lake, but their individual habits - which you learn about over the course of DOG - really help to solidify the connection between the past and the present. The eldest dog, Iggy, would sleep all day on the front porch, where you first meet Red Knott; the young, energetic dog, Vitus, barked at the red-tailed hawks that perched on top of the big tree that you use as a landmark during your bird photography; the playful dog, Xander, used to mess around by the well pump you use to test the water and later to put out the fire; and the adventurous dog, Lucy liked to swim out to stand atop the wreck of the Folly King, a boat which Flo Ziegfeld (a real-life famous Broadway producer) supposedly crashed in 1926 on his way to Malone’s cabin.
Does anyone else kind of group the games like this?: 1-5: Older Games 6-12: Old Games 13-16: Transitioning Games 17-22: ‘Middle’ Games 23-25: Still-Somewhat-New Games 26-31: Newer Games
Just curious! And if you kind of ‘group’ them another way, tell me how!!
yeah mines kinda close, I do like:
1-2: Weird First Games 3-7: The Classics [tho tbf MHM kinda straddles both categories there] 7-11: Also The Classics, But They Are Newer 12-22: The Murky Middle (user beware) 23-32: The Tumultuous Past Few Years of Very Good and Very Very Shite Games
I’ve always thought of them like:
1-2 So old that I never played them before they were discontinued
3-6 Old but gold
6-9 Slightly less old
10-14 Classics!
16-21 Stable middle of pretty-good-but-not-great games
22-26 (also 1.2) HOLY SHIT THEY MAKE THEM FOR MAC NOW*
27-29 New
30+ Hella new
*After I switched to using macs a few years ago, I didn’t play ND games for a while, so when I had the above realization I played like 6 games within a month. That’s what that group is.
It’s fun to see how everyone sorts the series in their heads! Here’s my take: 1-2 “Early installment weirdness.” Weird structure and gameplay, a Ned imposter, Nancy voicing Bess and George, and cats and dogs living together!
3-7 “Literally my childhood.”
8-13 “Still literally my childhood.” But later on, and I could actually beat these!
14-21 “Not the classics.” I know in my heart that they’re probably technically better than the classics, but they don’t hold quite as much nostalgia for me.
22-28 “The Golden Age.” Even the one or two lesser ones had a playful feel to them that made me love them.
29-32 “The Post-Modern Era.” The modern Nancy Drew games. Feel very much like 22-28, but with extra emphasis on each feeling different and exciting!
Recipe 97 - Roasted Beets with Champagne Vinaigrette
“Roasted Beets” is the sixth recipe I’ve done from Ghost of Thornton Hall and the fourth I’ve pulled from Charlotte’s masquerade invitation. The other five GTH recipes can be found here, here, here, here, and here.
My sister helped me make this recipe (for fun) and pointed out that it’s 100% vegan! So you know, that’s always nice. It’s a good recipe for 2 people to make together because the dressing can be made simultaneously with the prep of the beets. The end result of our efforts was a rich, tangy, slightly crisp delight made fresh with herbs from my garden!
This is an awesome recipe for people who are trying to eat more vegetables but still want that savory flavor and filling quality that meat has. The beets are crisp and soft but also succulent from soaking up the vinaigrette. Highly recommended :)
Few things please me more than being able to try out a new recipe!
Low-key would be totally ok if her released a game where Nancy has an uneventful internship during the hiatus
And there’s a currency system in which Nancy makes money by completing menial tasks in her internship with which she can buy cool collectible trinkets and plates of food that she can pretend to eat using a jump cut and a “mmm!” voice line.
A beast of Lovecraftian horror approaches. Prepare yourself. This Wednesday.
Reblog with five puzzles in all of the Nancy Drew games that you could never complete without cheats - narrow it down to the worst! Curious as to what stumps the Clue Crew!!
Mine are… Jake’s Box in the Library in SCK The Bog Maze to Fiona’s Shack in HAU The Color Panel Box in CAP Kasumi’s Secret Bathroom Fox Puzzle in SAW Magnus’ Cabin Crystal Puzzle in SEA
In increasing order of difficulty...
5. The “triggering Henrik’s amnesia” puzzle in SSH - Not technically a “puzzle”, but I spent 3-4 days as a kid making no progress in the game because I couldn’t figure out how to make it past the second level of the temple. The game didn’t *tell* me to randomly take a stroll through the garden!
4. The circuit/soldering puzzle in CAR - I guess I just wasn’t ready at the age of 8 to understand the difference between connecting circuits in series and in parallel. I had to let my mom solve this one :D
3. The ending puzzle in WAC - I would have really struggled with this even if it weren’t a timed puzzle with the threat of gruesome death looming over you in the form of a massive “pendulum”.
2. The Roman numerals puzzle in the well in DOG - I was so convinced it had to do with the dogs’ birthdates, and I couldn’t call B&G or F&J for help. I would have rotten in that well before I realized that the first letter of each dog’s name was isometric with a Roman numeral!
1. The speakeasy spigot puzzle in DOG - I couldn’t even figure it out when I replayed the game recently! Very tough.
I’m curious about what fields people in the clue crew work in/want to work in…
Coding. Boring answer, I know, but it’s one I’m satisfied with.
The Clue Crew Directory
So i was thinking of making a clue crew directory that maybe we coulld all put on our blogs and itll include like every nancy drew blog so:
Reblog this post if your blog is like 80 percent or more nancy drew :)
And once this hits enough notes ill start makign it and everytime someone reblogs it ill just add them in.
well yeah reblog away :D
When playing all the Nancy Drew games in order, when do you play Secrets Can Kill REMASTERED?
Whenever you want to be bored out of your mind
It sounds kind of wrong, but I replace the original with the remastered version. What can I say? I like coin collection, greater character depth, and consuming cans of soda labelled “Cool”.
As a coder, I got a kick out of seeing how sassy HER made the Barnacle Blast devs be to each other in the comments of the game’s software.
If I just keep drinking these, then one day, this will be me! “Cool”...yeah!
I did two for this one.
Nancy Drew: Trail of the Twister, a.k.a. GTA 6: Nancy Drew.
