My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Sunday Morning French Toast!
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Stone in a Jar | Stay thirsty #SanDiego for @StoneBrewingCo.
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Bison Brat Party Pt. 2 | So after cutting my teeth on Bison Brats, I have to say that the first bite was memorable. Smokey oak richness with gooey cheddar really prepared me for a bold and roasty flavor experience once I moved on to my first sip of Self-Righteous. This deep black ale features big, bold roasty malt flavor and demands a confirming a hint of grapefruit or some kind of citrus. As for the meal, looking back I clearly remember a delightful bite blending nicely with the crunchy, irresistible krout and the savory, melty buttery oyster mushroom... Oh, it's so amazing I ate the rest of my bravado dish to Kayne West's So Amazing! I'm a monster.

My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Bison Brat Party | Brandon, the Chef at @SOLMarkets, did something extraordinary to my palate. He suggested pairing Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale with these Bison Cheddar jalapeno bratwursts, which exposed me to the idea that I can eat and drink things that are as bold as I am in the same sitting and that shit works! I think every local foodie needs to have a "bravado dish". Something that turns them on and it's just so amazing from first-to-last bite you want to chew it slowly. However, getting there is the challenge. I chose to gently smoke my brats with toasty oak for about a half hour while I sauteing a huge oyster mushroom in sweet "browned" butter. Then I cut up some Allium tuberosum aka "green Nira grass", plated my dinner, and topped it with Stogsdill's Pickles (whatever was left from the first night). Now, for the first bite of my local-to-San Diego bravado dish.

My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Lame 'Creeper' Volt Ad | Lord knows I love @ChevyVolt and I can't say enough good thing about the car, however I was at the store today waiting in the checkout aisle when I started flipping thru the latest issue of San Diego Magazine. I was bored to death by everything in this issue until I reached this Ad and at first --- I was like HUH??? A few seconds later I was feeling overwhelming disappointment. Now, don't get me wrong... Chevrolet stated they would promote the HOV lane sticker as much as possible, but this "Fly Solo" advertisement needs critique. So, if nobody else will say it --- I will! This ad is lame. What also comes to mind is "passive aggressive" and it makes me think of what my 17 year old cousin would say... "don't be a creeper". I know a few things about advertising and two disciplines come to mind: 1) Too cerebral is no bueno. This ad makes you think too much. 2) Elevate your audience. Fly Solo is clear and to the point but lame.
I have a few simple suggestions to relaunch this ad since GM is in the mood to relaunch everything else:
#1 - Replace the house with a Bungalow, or Spanish style Casa, or to be eye catching - how about a Modular Prefab Modern home being assembled on site with a crane and work crew. Tell a story here!
#2 - Ditch the creepy manikin! It's cute at best and not the benefit of the green pass. "Time" is the benefit. I would add the owner into this picture (where the creepy manikin is) about to walk her dog. I would then add a small caption like this:
It's 8am on Monday morning and you have a management meeting at 9.
Oh yeah... This changes everything.
#3 - Plug "Fly Solo" after explaining the benefit earned was "more time" (enough time to walk the dog at 8am and make to work at 9!!!!) and then ask the reader to test drive the 2012 Chevy Volt blah blah blah...
I may not be popular guy after posting this, however one the best bits of advice I've received is this: "If you tell me what I want to hear... you're fired! Tell me what I need to hear and you've got the job!"

My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Weekend Plans? Stoned Reading @EdibleSanDiego | Yup! It's the Garden Issue and I'm looking forward to reading "The Chef as Farmer" story over a Stone cold beer... Hopefully it doesn't fucking rain on my cheddar brat party!
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Grassfed Bison Bratwurst | It's lean and #local in San Diego, but from where? @SolMarkets carries Bison Cheddar & Jalapeno Bratwurst from Star B Buffalo Ranch and Hop Farm up in Ramona, CA. Now, some of my friends talk a lot of shit and would call me an arrogant bastard for trying this, but I've decided to pair this delight up with Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, fresh green onion, and Stogsdill's Pickles Horseradish Kraut, which is so fucking good I ate practically half the jar while writing this tumblr post!! GGGGGRRRRR!!! I can't wait for tomorrow!!!!
Mmmmm...
You’ve undoubtedly heard of the “Lexicon of Sustainability” who have gorgeous posters breaking down terms in the world of local, sustainable food production. Did you know they also do videos? Yup, awesome videos.
Check out their Vimeo page.
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: My Lexicon | Consider me a converted #Locavore and a newbie #urbanfarmer, however my lexicon needed some brushing up to keep up with my personal growth. I found this video, reviewed it carefully, and decided to share it because learning about #FoodMiles forces you to learn about #FoodDeserts. A food desert is any area in the industrialized world where healthy, affordable food is difficult to obtain. Food deserts are prevalent in rural as well as urban areas and are most prevalent in low-socioeconomic minority communities. They are associated with a variety of diet-related health problems. As a young black man, I'm tried of "Food Deserts" not being prevalent in every black family's dinner table talk! That's about to change right here, right now, with my family's dinner table.
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: SOL Food Shopping Part 2 |@SOLMarkets has become my go-to-first-choice 4 a variety of Kale. I picked out some tasty Dino and Red Russian Kale grown at Suzie's Farm (so I know it quality). And snap! Don't let me forget the local Oyster mushrooms --- they are crazy savory! I'll share dinner pics later...
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: SOL Food Shopping Part 1 | #TGIF! I went weekend #foodie shopping at @SolMarkets 4 some tasty finds and good reading material.
My #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr: Community Garden Sprouts | So it's been a few months since my family and I joined a community garden. I've been following a season budget plan called The Personal Sustainability Blueprint and one of the calls to action was eating local and seasonally. And, well there's no better way to do that (and raise your kids right) than to grow some of your food. I'm seriously --- I have friends that give their two year old fruit cups in syrup! Ugh! Seriously people this is so easy! We're using what's called a raised garden bed and the soil is oh-so loamy! If you wish to join this movement of San Diego urban farmers, check out San Diego Community Gardens on Facebook.
After spending the day with my son, I realized I need to journal this time on my #SanDiego #Food #Car #Garden #Tumblr.
