So Young And So Gone | Arya & Gendry | September 7th
She was surprisingly complacent as he got drinks, despite the mean looks the crowd in the kitchen was getting. Two plastic cups in one hand and her bird-like arm in another, he trudged through the sea of people and out on to the back porch, where a sad sofa was the only available seating.
"I’d like to call you by your name, if you’d let me. I’m Gendry, by the way, and you might want to slow down with that drink if you want to make it through the night. You’re pretty small," he said, trying not to laugh. She couldn’t do much damage to him, but that didn’t mean he was begging to be hit again. "Do you act like this at every party you go to, or is tonight special?"
He sipped his unimpressive beer and watched three blokes playing drunken football in the backyard while he waited for her almost certainly defensive answer.
If she wasn't already drunk, she'd probably have felt a little bit bad for hitting him. He was doing a half-decent job of attempting to be a gentleman--asking her name, getting her a drink. Too bad Arya wasn't the type of girl that responded well to gentlemen.
She replied to his question instantly, "Ary--" stopping short once she thought it through. Her father was well known on campus, her mother too thanks to all her charity work. If he was a student on campus there was a chance he'd heard of her family. She didn't need her identity getting out, as it would inevitably lead back to her parents and her fun (and her fake ID) would be ended promptly. "Just Arry, and don't tell me what I can and can't do." she finished, proud of her own drunken recovery. To prove to him she was capable of doing whatever she wanted, she finished the beer in one gulp, purposely ignoring his advice.
"What do you mean, 'act like this'? You mean have a good time? Call out assholes that try to get in my way? Yeah...I try to make a habit of it," she tipped her chin up at him defiantly.
The alcohol was finally getting to her. She'd drank it so quickly it hadn't had the time to properly set in, and now it was hitting her harder than she would have wanted. She meant to spout off another insult, but found her brain swimming, and thinking of a proper response was much too hard right now. Instead she just giggled at her own superiority, knowing she was totally impressing this guy with how "hard" she was being right now.
She caught sight of the guys playing football out in the yard and decided she wanted to join. She'd played against Jon, Robb, and Theon for years and knew she could impress with her skills. But as she tried to leave the couch, her feet seemed to get tangled together and she fell back against Gendry again. She tried to scramble up again, but only caused herself to become more discombobulated. Instead she just gave up, admitting defeat against gravity, grace, and sobriety with a exhaled, "Whatever."
