happy 20 year anniversary of Neil banging out the tunes!

though every rat is special, it's a wonderful and unusual thing for their accomplishments to be remembered and cherished by so many people so many years later. we're all so fortunate to know about the rat who banged out the tunes!

Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:

It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."

After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said “I’m the space plumber, I’m proud to call myself the space plumber.”

On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.

The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.

While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.

When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.

At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.

On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).

While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.

Second ask because I am very much not normal about Blitz or Hearthstone

But I have to tell you I adore how you express ASL through your art!!

As a coda the representation in the books meant the word to me and also! hands are the bane of my existence so double kudos for you for being able to draw ASL so well too

my question! what’s your process (?) to drawing the asl, do you know the language (if so, story?) do you research for every piece (if so, how?) or a secret third opinion

also, it’s your fault 1000% that I’m not over my MCGA obsession, thank you ^^

I not connected to the deaf community in anyway, I have a hoh friend but he’s also learning asl alongside me. I’m taking asl as my language credit which I had actually decided before I read mcga but a certain elf made me more excited to learn. so sometimes when I’m drawing Hearth I already know some signs he’s using, but if I don’t I look them up on AslDefined which has a dictionary of signs (short videos)

The hands thing is so real they were the bane of my existence as well but I’ve had to draw them so much recently I’ve gotten the hang of them

when I used to draw Hearth signing I would try to draw as many of the signs as I could which made it feel really jumbled imo

So as of late I try to limit it to one or two important signs in the sentence to free it up (or I draw him twice for longer sentences)

Also whenever we go over the deaf community in class I try to keep the struggles and social norms in the back of my mind when I draw him and the rest of the cups (why I try to keep them signing when they’re speaking out loud)

This was a lot of yapping but lastly here are a few deaf related headcanons I have (not shown but blitz tries to keep his apartment voices off)

There's no way Hearth would be able to keep blaming Samirah for what happened, especially after having to go back and revisit everything he was blamed for as a kid and taking a breather after unpetrifying blitz. A small part of him was probably saying what he wished he had heard. I imagine they had to have had a talk while waiting for the rest to show up.
