Replaying Mother 3 and getting to Chapter 4 and getting really upset not because the attic dungeon is hard af but because you have to see Kumatora suffering and being mistreated and it reminds you of yourself and everyone you know and everyone you don't know because it affects everyone and nobody cares
what's your opinion on the (canon, but also speculatory) queer themes + characters in mother 3? with the magypsie/fassad
I personally really love Ionia and co/Fassad even though they're contentious. I've always liked how much compassion is written into the whole Mother series... Regardless of a character's moral standing or who they are or how they identify they always feel like people you could know, who have their own ugly flaws and admirable, redeeming or sympathetic qualities... I know there is debate on whether or not they are "good" representation but I think they were written with a lot of love and good intentions and that stuck out and stayed with me more than any of the flaws in their writing. Mother as a whole has issues with how it represents certain marginalized groups and there is a lot I would change personally but I really do cherish the extra miles they went to have human feeling characters from all different walks of life when few others would ever even consider it.
I think Fassad is an interesting character to look at through a queer lens, there are lots of ways to interpret him... I've seen people say they read him as a trans man who didn't feel welcomed or accepted by the rest of the group's femininity and he grew to resent them and I think that's an interesting reading. But me personally I saw him as someone who's repressing his queer identity and choosing to turn to hatred in order to prove something to himself/others and to turn a profit and gain power... I feel like that ties in pretty well with a lot of the themes in Mother 3 surrounding... Well I guess capitalism, autonomy, identity. It felt particularly poignant in today's climate where it is much more profitable to throw everyone in your corner under the bus and oppress them to give yourself the upper hand and social control when it's only ever gonna come back to bite you in the ass. Fassad's drastic change in appearance over the course of the game could be applied to this reading too... If you're repressing who you truly feel like you are and you absolutely cannot let yourself accept that, it makes sense that you would gravitate towards other methods of changing your appearance, abilities, especially if they make you more powerful or intimidating and your goal in the first place was to have power over other people. It would not make you more happy or fulfilled to remove your ability to speak in favor of making yourself stronger and scarier but in his case it's the preferable option over being Locria. There are a lot of ways to think about his character in terms of his queerness... Sorry if this is kind of a crappy answer I'm no good at this

I don't think Kumatora and Duster were doing much considering we know for a fact Kumatora was a baby and Duster was a child when they got on the White Ship, I personally think Duster was a very young child... So they were probably just busy playing toys and eating applesauce and learning the potty or whatever... I do think Wess is Duster's bio dad and there's just a huge age gap, both because it makes so much sense to me for him to have a son late into his life and because there's some scrapped dialogue where Duster says he's absolutely sure he's his real dad. Perhaps Kumatora's parents couldn't come with her on the White Ship and she was entrusted to someone else which is how she wound up an orphan? I could imagine her winding up in Alec's care and he brings her to Ionia and co later on. Perhaps finding someone to care for Kumatora is how Alec met and befriended them. I'd imagine Duster and Wess are living about the same way they would've otherwise, minus the whole thief thing I guess... Although I do think it would be interesting if his mother did come with the two of them and she passed away when he was young. The death of Duster's mother definitely wouldn't have caused as much grief as Hinawa's death I'd assume... both because of the freak circumstances of Hinawa's death and because Duster and his family are not particularly liked or acknowledged by the rest of the village. Maybe Duster was so quick to comfort Flint because he was able to remember what it's like to lose someone so close to you? It's hard to picture her and Wess having a stable relationship. Probably divorced and living together for baby Dust Dust. Some of these headcanons might have proof against them in the game but that's just because I can never keep track of Mother 3's weird timeline. I'm fake

o wise kumadust sage, how do you think they would decorate a living space?
Hmmm well I feel like it wouldn't be something either of them would be particularly invested in... I think they'd both be used to having relatively few possessions. I also kind of doubt either of them are very good about keeping the house clean just given their upbringings probably leaving little room for forming that habit. If they shared a space I think it would be pretty barren but it would fill up over time. I see both of them as being a little sentimental given what few items they start out with are ones that they have a deeper connection to (Duster's favorite shoes and Kumatora's pendant). So they'd probably have some old furniture moved in from Wess's cabin or Osohe Castle or something, maybe some stuff gifted to them by Lucas and Flint to help them settle in. Everything else they'd have would be personal valuables. I think they'd have kind of a crappy looking, but very well-lived in house. Neither of them care to put much thought into interior decorating and things get a little cluttered from time to time but it's undeniably their home. The weird nest
