Letter from the Editor
In my years on roleplay I’ve seen drama sites, confession sites, awards sites, premades/resources sites, you name it. And while all of these things are meaningful and bring a sense of joy to the roleplay community, I thought it could be nice to provide something that digs a little deeper into our culture. Because it really is a culture. Roleplay is our little community, and it means a certain something to every single person who is, and has ever been, a part of it. It’s an escape from real life, and sometimes real life is an escape from roleplay.
For The Roleplay Time’s first cover story, I am going to be delving deep into the past decade of life on roleplay. From 2010 to now, I will be exploring things like: how has roleplay changed? How has it stayed the same? Which families have thrived and which ones cease to exist? What were some of the most iconic moments, past and present? But most importantly, I want this to be a story about you! I would like to hear contributions from all types of people on roleplay. Whether you’re popular, not popular, have been on rp since 2008, or just joined a year ago, I want to hear from you. I want to gather a variety of perspectives and really dig deep into this article.
During the development of this story, I’ve decided to remain anonymous and use an alias for a few reasons. The main reason being that I want to avoid bias. I really want this newspaper to be a resource for everyone and I don’t want personal opinions to get in the way of making this article great. The second reason I’m going to remain anonymous is because I’m a nobody. I really am. I’ve been on roleplay for many years, I’ve been a witness to a lot of drama, I am very much in the mix... but I’ve never been “popular” nor has my name on roleplay carried much weight to many people.
I sincerely hope that I can connect with many of you. I plan on reaching out to certain people within the next few days to garner some interest. In the mean time, please follow the tumblr for updates and add us on rp.me!
All my best,
-“Elena”
