I have now completed FFCC for my second time. After this playthrough, my thoughts arent as definitive as they were at the end of FFIX, given this game does have its fair share of differences that I didn't consider earlier. Yet I still stand by my original claim. I view FFCC as the spiritual successor to FFIX, while I won't necessarily call it FFIX-2 as I previously had played with the idea.

Still, both are great games and while FFIX doesn't get enough attention in the FF world for how great it actually is, I think that FFCC also deserves a little more recognition. While it may have been a different formula for Final Fantasy, I still view it as a great game. And I replayed it 10 years after its release...

Whats funny is that because this list has been in the works for so long, I am wanting to possibly do another playthrough of some of the games Ive already crossed off. Ha.

Ive only played Shining Force 1, but it definitely ranks as one of the most memorable and enjoyable games I've ever played. I just wish there was more Domingo/Zylo thrown in here

Okami Amaterasu

Yesterday I finished my second full playthrough of Okami for the PS2. I originally played and beat the game back when it was released when I was in 7th grade. I absolutely fell in love with it, and while that love had never dimmed in my heart, I just didn't get around to playing it until recently. It was always on my ever increasing backlog of games that I need to play and always found itself behind many other games. But I had the inclination to play it again so I finally rummaged through my stuff and put it in.

I did not think it was possible for me to enjoy the game more than my first playthrough, because back then, I decided it was in my top 5 favorite games of all time. Yet this time, even after the first boss, I realized that this may actually be my favorite game of all time. I decided that it might be hasty to make such a claim and dethrone FFVII, but the more I played it, the more I fell in love with it again and again. I still don't know if I can say its my favorite game of all time, partly because I hate solidifying a number 1 spot for any category, and also partly because its been so long since Ive played my current #1, FFVII. But I plan on getting around to that soon so I can see if my choices need reevaluating.

Okami is truly one of the best games ever made. I am not even mentioning it in terms of my favorites now, I am taking a more objective stance. It has such clever design and mechanisms that even as a game that is 8 years old now, it still ranks above practically all the new games Ive played lately. In fact, it looks better than most games nowadays and I am referring to the PS2 version, NOT the HD version for the PS3.

Its charm is practically unparalleled as well as its fluid gameplay and jawdropping soundtrack. The gameplay is very engaging and well-paced, as well as puzzling at times. Top this all on top of a story that is amazing, and better yet, ORIGINAL, and I find it hard to not put Okami in the top 5 of Best Games Ever Made.

I can't believe it took me 8 years for the replay when I can remember around 4 years ago, I had the inclination for a replay. Now that I have remembered why I loved the game as much as I did, I feel Okami may get quite a few more replays now. Never has a 30+ hour story felt so short and leaving me yearning for more.

If you have not played Okami, you are missing out on one of the best games ever made.
