Hi! I need some help for my careers class. I have to find trends on Globalization, Technology, Demographics, and Economy. I don't know what trends are actually about. Can you give me some examples? My teacher doesn't really explain well. Thanks!
Trend as it relates to economy is defined as “a general direction in which something is developing or changing.”
Trends are basically looking at what is happening now, and where we can expect it to go based on past and current information.
An example: because we can see the current amount of technology used today, and we can look back at the past few years and see how much technology was used then, we can predict a trend in the use of technology for the future. Technology use has become more and more frequent. Educators have even begun to incorporate it in their teaching methods. Therefore it could be predicted that in the near future we could expect to see every student with access to modern technology and encouraged to use the technology in a classroom setting.
Now, I made up that one, so I don’t have a source. Let me see if I can give you some examples in each category.
Globalization(http://www.loc.gov/rr/business/BERA/issue1/trends.html):
Population trends - Decreasing population in developed countries, while increasing population in developing countries, and increased life expectancy
Science and technology - Includes the Internet and other computer components as well as GPS, genetically modified food, etc
Increasing integration and interdependence - Includes all areas of economic life as well as an increasing exchange of products and services across national borders through trade
Governance - How national and international laws govern the economic activity and transnational institutions
Technology (http://www.inboundlogistics.com/cms/article/defining-technology-trends/):
The use of RF identification technology such as tags and tag readers to identify and track objects including equipment, pallets of stock, or individual units
Systems that provide a comprehensive and timely view of processes, solutions, and metrics across the entire value chain
Technology that empowers people to analyze, find, use, collaborate, and share data to maximize efficiency and workflow
Tools that utilize data from current executed processes to drive future planning and forecasting
Solutions that apply supply chain technology to the process of managing human resources
Demographics(http://www.demodirt.com/index.php/about/demographic-trends):
Classics (born from 1900 to 1920)
Baby Bust (I) (born from 1921 to 1945)
Baby Boomers (born from 1946 to 1964)
Gen X/Baby Bust (II) (born from 1964 to 1976)
Gen Y/Millennials/Echo Boomers (born from 1976 to 1994)
Generation Z/Generation I (born from 1995 to 2009?) [note: this one is new and is still not technically classified]
Economy:
There is so much out there for this one, I’m just going to leave you a link. I recommend checking this out: http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/09/the-10-stealth-economic-trends-that-rule-the-world-today/280107/
These are just the first few I thought would be helpful. If you need more examples, I’ll be happy to get them to you. I really do hope this helped!
