There is something genuinely funny about my dad only ever texting me once a year, on my birthday, to try to guilt me into accepting an apology from him for “the mistakes I made.”

He’s never named what those mistakes are.

He’s never tried to correct anything.

He just wants my forgiveness so he can feel better about himself.

I keep thinking about the life that I thought I was going to have. And I wish I could stop.

Made lunch plans with a friend a month ago. They let me know yesterday that they won’t be able to make it. I get the sensation that they didn’t really want to hang out with me in the first place and they were just trying to let me down easy. Who knows.
