Blanche raised an eyebrow at what Barrett was saying before responding to Merrick. âThere is no better guide because I can get us into places the public isnât allowed and no one will bother us as we do things. Or we can slip away and see things like actual tourists.â She beamed. âZeb can join us, he seems to know the best hole in the wall places. He has a little bit more time to explore, when I donât drag him to things.â Blanche gave Merrickâs arm a squeeze hoping it would convey he should go with her on this and see what Barrett would say to that.
Merrick nudged her ever so slightly in return as he spoke. âThat would be wonderful. Heâs an interesting guy so I can only imagine he finds the most interesting places.â He laughed as he reached over to raise her other hand, her left hand, so he could see the ring he had noticed a little better. âAnd he has good taste. This ring suits you perfectly.â He snuck her a quick grin. âDo you have a wedding date yet?âÂ
Barrettâs expression barely changed, the amusement only fading slightly. If he had actually thought he had any chance with the princess, a ring on the finger would have meant little to him. Either way, he could say he flirted with a princess. His smirk returned full force. âHe is a lucky man, if I might say so, your highness.â
âWe have two. One in New York for family, one in Denmark for other family. Which Iâll need an address for you, youâll be invited to more than likely both. No need to come to both, but youâll be invited.â Blanche wiggled her fingers to let the diamonds catch the light. âI like to think itâs perfect, I do like to hear that other people agree.â She caught the eye of one of the waiters walking around to bring them more champagne. Her smile returned full force. âI think Iâm more lucky of the two of us, if I am absolutely honest. He could have his pick of anyone but he chose me. And all my complications.â
âIâll be sure to get an address to you before the night is over. I would love to be there.â Merrick released her hand to take a glass from the waiter as they reached the group. âTo you and Zeb. And getting to see friends again.â He raised the glass slightly before taking a drink. Barrett mimicked the motion with a glass of his own, choosing to finish his quickly. Setting it on another passing tray he then turned back to the princess.
âDo you have a picture? I have to see what kind of man makes a princess feel so lucky.â Barrett laughed softly. âAlso, I didnât know Merrick had friends, much less from his time in America.âÂ
