Hibiki snorted, done with the vegetables and now cracking open the eggs very carefully. His favorite way to cook this involved seasoning both the eggs and the rice with the same spices so it all tasted good. âWhatâs wrong with snowmen? I make snowbunnies tooâŠâ Hibiki pouted at his friend as he gathered up the spices. âA snow tigerâŠOh! What about a snow dragon?â
"They're just soooo... You know. I just think we can do better!" Daichi glanced over at what his friend was doing while he tended to the onions. "I'm totally cool with snowbunnies, at least it changes things up... A snow dragon!? You think we're ready for that?"
Motherly would by the correct term even if heâd punch you for it. Hibiki pointed to the finished onions when Daichi reached his side. âCan you get those started? Or you can get the rice cooking,â he instructed as he chopped the carrots. An amused smile formed as he thought about Daichiâs excuse. Wouldnât dream of hitting him with snowballs, huh? That was unlikely.Â
"Mm. I like the snow. We should make snowmen again like when we were kids."
Glad to have something to keep him occupied, Daichi went to start on the rice. He figured it'd be better to start with that and get to the onions while the rice was steaming. "Snowmen? Still into snowmen too, huh?" Daichi grinned as he moved around. "Why not like a snow tiger or something? We should do something like that."
"âŠDaichi." Hibiki sighed, shaking his head as he got out the ingredients for omelet rice. Sometimes he really wondered just went through his friendâs head. An online tournament, huh? Sounded boring and uninteresting to Hibiki. "Itâs going to snow soon, Daichi. Will you ambush me with snowballs again this year?" he asked to change topic as he started chopping the vegetables needed.
Heh heh... Whoops. Hibiki sure sounded motherly sometimes. Fatherly? Parent...ly? Daichi scuffed at the floor, trying to look innocent. It was important, honest! A really big tournament. Not that he said any of that, knowing his friend wouldn't hear it out. A tournament wasn't worth his health and all.
"Wha?" Oh yeah, he had forgotten about the weather. It was getting awfully chilly out. "Naw, you've got it all wrong! I wouldn't even dream of it." A half-lie, of course. Daichi wandered to Hibiki's side, wondering if he needed help with anything.
Hibiki squeaked, flailing when Daichi grabbed him. He should have expected that, really. âUh-huh, sure.â He stuck his tongue out at his best friend and huffed in return. Rubbing his cheeks, the brunet blinked, confused. âYou havenât eaten since breakfast? DaichiâŠâ he sighed and shook his head. âIâll make omelet rice, howâs that?â
"Ah heh heh..." Daichi quickly waved his hands as if that would clear his good name. "Maaaaybe I was a little caught up in an online tournament..." Hikikomori-in-training, that's what. Daichi realized it a moment too late, but he would just have to deal with the consequences. "Omelet rice? Yeah, that sounds good."
Hibiki shrugged, standing carefully. Daichi scaring him was something he was used to now. The jumping was solely because of instinct by this time. Maneuvering around his little army of origami, the brunet headed to the kitchen. âIâm not busy. This is a product of boredom. Want something to eat, hikikomori in training?â Teasing was the best way to get back at Daichi. Well, until he could figure out how to get back at him for the middle school incident.
Daichi huffed and lurched at Hibiki to lock him into an aggressive noogie. "I am not a hikikomori," he insisted, and he proceeded to poke his friend's cheeks once. "I am pretty hungry, though. I haven't eaten since this morning." He let Hibiki go, now ready for some eats.
"Hibiki! I didnât know you were into origami." Choo-choo unannounced Daichi.
Hibiki jumped slightly, turning to look at Daichi in surprise. He must have left the front door unlocked again. Still, the brunet smile happily at Daichi and shrugged. âItâs a recent hobby. What else can you do with outdated paperwork?â Though all of these were made with brightly colored origami paper. âWhatâs up, Daichi?â
Daichi was accustomed to just walking into his best friend's house, so it didn't occur to him that it was probably rude to show up without warning. He did acquire a bit of satisfaction from making Hibiki jump, though. Finally, some payback! Of course, it was sort of Daichi's fault he was so jumpy, so he really couldn't blame anybody else for it... He let his eyes wander, noting the origami figurines with some interest. "Oh, not much. I just wanted to drop in and say hi, maybe hang out... Looks like you're busy, though."
Hibiki sets aside what heâs been working on to reveal an origami tiger. Around him are cranes and cats and tigers in varying colors. Thereâs even a few flowers mixed in.
"âŠI wonder if anyone would want one of these."
"Hibiki! I didn't know you were into origami." Choo-choo unannounced Daichi.
"Hey Hibiki, where you'd put the yyyaaaaAAAAAA DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE - " (to the wings under clothing thing)
Hibiki gasped, turning around and pressing his back to the wall. âD-Daichi! C-calm down!â
Hibiki nodded, sitting down. He was as lost as Daichi with how to approach this. Heâd actually hoped to go his whole life without anyone finding out about the wings.Â
"Yep. Woke up on my birthday and they were there."
He sighed.
"Do theyâŠbother you?"
"Huh? Oh! No, totally not. It's just... Well, it's kind of unexpected, you know?" Daichi didn't want to make his friend feel like an outcast all of a sudden. That definitely wasn't the case! Daichi was not casting his best friend out just for having a set of glamorous wings. "Like... Were you blessed by an angel in your sleep or something? That's seriously random."
Guess who comes in for a tight hug.
Daichi seems happy to see Apollo, as he swiftly picks up the messenger-god in a tight embrace and does a little spin, scarf twirling around him.
"Mmmmm..I donât mind what you haveâŠI get to be home with you, so itâs fine." Apollo just says despite the shivering his body does. Since that time at the JPâs⊠His body has been reacting to more things. "I donât mind just spending time with youâŠ"
"All right~! I'm thinking of some nice, hot ramen. We've got some good stuff at home. I'll even put something in it! Eggs or something." Daichi chats amiably as he leads Apollo home, wondering about what kind of ramen to make and recalling some more disastrous ramen-related tales...

"Iâm doing fine, nothing new besides a few things here and there. At least youâve gotten betterâŠYouâre not hurt or anything as well, so thatâs good news." He smiles while his good eye blinks.  The scarf was welcomed while he chuckles a bit. "Nothing extreme going onâŠJust tired."
"Better than something extreme. Oh, that's right... You can't really sleep, huh? At least you get a break, right...? Come on, I'll go whip up something good. Hoooow's aboooout... Hm, what do we even have at home..."
Yes. Shy from the moment he turned fifteen. That makes sense, Daichi. Hibiki would have rolled his eyes.
"MmâŠWell, look in the foil covered plate. I put it there for you."
Hibiki wasnât even truly sure where the wings had come from. Heâd just woken up on his fifteenth birthday with them and had hid them ever since. They were just something heâd come to accept by now. Like his curly hair and blue eyes.
"Y-yeah, okay."
Daichi retrieved the yakiniku he was searching for and quickly wolfed it down. That was a little better. Delicious as always. He thought on the feathery situation as he ate, and slowly turned to face Hibiki when he was done.
"Soooo..."
...so...what?
"Um..."
Oh, gee. This was kinda hard.
"So, uh... You said you got them out of nowhere?"

Daichi seems happy to see Apollo, as he swiftly picks up the messenger-god in a tight embrace and does a little spin, scarf twirling around him.
The messenger only chuckles while heâs picked up, holding as tightly as he can. ââ-Iâve come back for a break, Daichi. You been all right?â
"Yeah...! I've been pretty swell. Keeping up with my schoolwork and stuff, sorta... Io's also been helping me to figure out what to do after high school! I'm not sure if she's figured anything out for herself, though..." Daichi wants to mention that he hasn't been attacked recently, but there's no need to jinx it. "How's your messenger duties going?" He stands back and throws his scarf over Apollo's shoulders, holding onto the ends and smiling.
Hibiki huffed, pulling his shirt completely on. He wears shirts even when he sleeps Daichi. And when he goes to the pool with you. The brunet blinked, tilting his head at the question.
"Your yakiniku? Itâs under the foil in the kitchen. Why?"Â
He just wrapped it to keep it fresh, Daichi. Chill man.
Okay, in retrospect, that was pretty weird. Daichi had always figured Hibiki was just shy or something...
"Um... I'm hungry! Yeah, that's it! I just couldn't find it, that's all."
He quickly scurried down to the kitchen, trying to sort his thoughts out. How long had Hibiki had these things? Since the day he first went into a pool with his shirt on? Yeah, probably. When was that...?

"Hey Hibiki, where you'd put the yyyaaaaAAAAAA DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE - " (to the wings under clothing thing)
Hibiki gasped, turning around and pressing his back to the wall. âD-Daichi! C-calm down!â
Hibiki bit his lip, trying to think of an explanation. There really wasnât anything he could say about the wings. âI donât knowâŠThey just showed up one day andâŠUghâŠWhy do you think I wear shirts all the time?â he grumbled, looking down.Â
This was awkward.
Daichi half-raised a hand, trying to coax some sort of answer out of himself. Thing was, he was drawing a complete blank, so he just half-raised his hand, half-lowered it, half-raised it again. He wanted to say something about the fact that, well, everyone wears shirts, Hibiki, wings or not. But he'd get another pillow to the face for something like that.
He realized about then that he was making Hibiki uncomfortable. He...didn't have any questions aside from that, since apparently even his friend didn't know where they came from. Plus maybe he'd think better if he had some food in his stomach. So Daichi took it upon himself to change the subject.
"Right... You put my yakiniku somewhere, right? Where'd you put it?"
Hibiki groaned, picking up a pillow and throwing it at Daichi. It wasnât that shocking to see his wings, was it? The brunet frowned unhappily, folding his wings against his back.Â
"Daichi!"
Good enough. Daichi snapped out of his shock enough to see the incoming pillow and shield himself from it.
Once he was sure no more pillows were coming this way, he turned right back on Hibiki, this time able to muster more words than you, you, you. "...Dude! What's with the...?" He wanted to call it a costume, but if had looked that fake, he wouldn't have freaked out in the first place. "The...you know... What is that!?"
