PAN'S LABYRINTH (2006) dir. Guillermo del Toro
there's something particularly insidious about the way people/companies are using AI to outsource actual real-life creatives, and in doing so cast doubt about the authenticity of those artists' work because now it "looks like AI". because the modeling was trained on their work, without permission!!!
screaming into void today and every day.
AALIYAH as QUEEN AKASHA Queen of the Damned ( 2002 )
there’s something so embarrassing about all the cast members in the new harry potter series that are openly being like “i want everyone to know i don’t agree with jk rowling’s views on trans people” like they think that will make up for them being on the show. maybe it’s just for the sake of their own consciences but it reads as “i know her views and actions harm people but i’m in it for the paycheck”. it’s not like this is just an adaptation of rowling’s work without her involvement, she is an executive producer on the show 😭 at that point just don’t say anything
uh alright.
Sighs loudly and dramatically in a way that suggests I desire attention
i love when pets huff or sigh dramatically. like i am sorry. you're so right. you live such a laborious life. it must be so difficult to take naps and get pet and fed treats and played with all day. really a packed schedule youve got there boss. how do you manage it all. well no matter i'd say it's time for your well earned 7th afternoon nap
EVERYONE. GET MORE IN LOVE WITH YOUR FRIENDS NOW. FRIENDSHIP IS ALL WE HAVE ON THIS MISERABLE BALL OF DIRT FLOATING THROUGH SPACE. TELL YOUR FRIENDS YOU LOVE THEM!!!!!

the christmas card thing gets me the most. like that’s legitimately crazy like not only is claude on their family christmas card but. BRIOUX???
For reference, People magazine popularized the celebrity couple name Brangelina in 2005. Since before Danny Briere was even a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, there has never been a widespread, non-romantic application of the portmanteau name.
And then he went and titled a chapter of his autobiography Le Famile Brioux and included that card. Totally Normal Things.
excerpt from the autobiography for anyone interested
Google translation:
"We were at the table having supper when Claude called out:
“Hey, the guys in the locker room were talking about their Christmas cards today. They’re all getting family cards printed. We should get some too!” Personalized Christmas cards aren’t really part of the holiday tradition in Quebec. But in the United States, it’s a big deal! As Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s approach, tons of people take the time to take beautiful family photos and have them printed on cards to send their greetings to their loved ones.
Claude’s idea was brilliant. The kids and I immediately jumped on board. To make sure our project was a success, we did some test shots during the evening, taking several pictures of the boys with the dogs. Then the next day, when Caelan, Carson, and Cameron got home from school, we dressed up in our best clothes and took a great picture of our funny family.
When our teammates and members of the Flyers organization received our card, it was a huge hit. It read: HOLIDAY BEST WISHES FROM THE BRIOUX FAMILY!"
oh what the fuck
reminder for all hockey fans:
netflix is making a hockey show called "the sticks" that is based on a very real tragedy that occured in canada in 2018.
the show follows a minnesota high school team after their bus crashes and coming back to hockey afterwards.
in 2018, the humboldt broncos' (a junior A team made up of 18-22 year olds) bus was hit by a tractor trailer on a highway intersection. 16 people (10 players, 2 coaches, and 4 team staff members) were killed, along with 13 other players severely injured.
the memory of the humboldt broncos crash is an incredibly sensitive subject carrying a lot of trauma to both the survivors, their families, and deceased's families. the trajectory of hockey in canada was changed significantly after this tragedy.
despite this, netflix has decided to make a show using the death of young hockey players for profit. they did not consult the survivors, nor the deceased's families. they stole a canadian story for a feel-good cash grab.
i understand wanting to watch shows about hockey, but this is not the show to watch. do not give it attention, as the humboldt broncos' memories deserve to be theirs and theirs alone to share.
This is how Netflix advertises the show btw… They’re calling it “your new hockey obsession”. It’s disgusting.
