[Rally 4: START!] It's hard when things get messy [OPEN]
She was tired.
Of this hotel, of the others, and especially of the little hoops that robot and her lackey made them go through that ensured that at least two people wouldn’t see the end of. How long had they even been in this hotel? A month? Two months? Time seemed to have no concept here, given that they weren’t allowed outside. Not that it mattered, since all the events that had occurred had ruined any concept of time that she had previously had-which hadn’t been much to begin with.
All the murders, trials and executions had taken most of her energy from her; it was getting harder to hold onto the belief that any day now, they would be freed from this place. Even if they came now, six people were dead. That was already a loss in of itself, since those people had family that would surely miss them. She thought to her own family; her dear sisters. Were they alright? They must surely have noticed that her absence was unusual. Maybe they were getting people together to look for them? Who knows.
In the meantime, she had to deal with the remainder of her class-and if she wanted to be realistic for one in her life, she wasn’t sure she could make sure they got out of here safely. Half of them she barely knew or had never talked to before. The other half, well… probably hated her guts. And really, she absolutely deserved it. What kind of idiot just takes the object they were told not to take and takes off? Her, apparently. Her attempt had all been for naught anyway-the neck wound was healing but it still kind of hurt, dammit-and because she hadn’t tried hard enough, two people had died.
She’d retreated to her room for the remainder of the day, not even making it to the bed and simply laying on the floor, willing in vain for this to all go away. Of course it hadn’t and she woke up just as miserable as before. But now wasn’t the time to wallow. New areas were open and she may as well go through the motions of looking around. Besides, even if she felt like shit, she hated to sit still.
And so this is how Yui found herself in the infirmary, tending to the cut she’d received from trying to cut that stupid apple. She hadn’t meant to come here, of course, but after taking a short swim in the new pool, the stinging that had come from it had been a swift reminder. Thankfully, it hadn’t gotten infected or anything, it just stung from the saltwater. She quickly got to it, getting bandages to wrap the wound in and disinfectant-just in case, you know. Unfortunately, she’d forgotten how much it stung and upon pouring some of it on her wound to clean it, a small bout of pain shot up her arm. Reflexively, she lashed out, sending the contents on the counter to the floor. Beakers smashed, tins full of bandages clattered, and papers floated to the ground and above it all, she let out a frustrated yell.
“Oh-shit! For fuck’s sake-”
She hissed, letting the disinfectant do its job before finally wrapping her finger up and crouching down to try and clean up the mess she’d made. Jesus, there was so much shit. She really fucked up again, huh? Picking up the pieces of a beaker, she heard the door open-probably someone who had heard the crash and came rushing in, thinking someone was being murdered. Well, whatever. She went back to trying to pick up all the pieces of glass off the floor, barely acknowledging the newcomer.
“Don’t come in yet-there’s still a lot of glass on the floor.”
Oooh, a ride! And she's a whole 4% drier than before, nice! Anyway, let's go look around at what other videogames are on this floor before bothering the poor soul at the samurai game
> The games there were quite something: titles you have never seen before, with characters you had never expected seen. Some were just remakes of older games, which is quite a trend in the the industry, however the great majority were of games seemingly from an age far away from this here. They were even made to consoles that supports Virtual Reality and holographic projection. That seemed to be the case of the one called Samurai Clash there. In a closer inspection, you can tell the one inside is no one other than Arlechenno Di Mercurio.
Oh boy, these were all so cool! She reached out to touch one but upon getting a good amount of water on the joystick, decided that maybe that was not a good idea yet. At least, not until she was drier. Dang. She'll be back, Puzzle Bobble. Anyway, she goes over to the carts and gets in one. Maybe the ride will dry her off a bit.
> Loki seems to approve your decision, even though you can’t really see him from where you are. Getting on Clyde, the orange ghost from Pac-Man, suddenly the carts starts moving up in a hapy joy ride, leading you to the upper level, where the futuristic, bizarre looking games were located. One there, Samurai Clash, seems to be on use by someone.
Oh man, it's Loki! She doesn't remember where he's from but that sure Is Loki. Anyway, he looks angry so she'd better get in there. Time to check out the videogames!
> You deicde to leave the Nordic god that gives name to this very room to check the arcade machines in the room. They seem to range from modern ones to some far from a distant past when games were much simpler. You can play them by paying [1] Eden Coin!
YAAAHHHOOOO! There she goes. Alright, enough of that. Bye, pool! See you next water time! Time to go where the cool things are-like the Arcade! Where the electronics are. While she's dripping wet. Good plan, Yui.
> If there was any way to tell that it was almost like the wax statue of Tom Hiddleston here portraying Loki wasn’t much happy to receive a human here in the Arcade in such conditions, however, since it couldn’t do anything with his staff due to being, well, a statue, you’re good. Loki is a merciful god, after all.
> Where does Yui wishes to check?
> Videogame Machines > Statue of Loki > Pac Rail Carts
Oh boy! Coins and a pointy thing! Well, Mermaidcchan might need that, so she puts it back. Then goes on the slider at the ceiling and slides down. Time to Le, folks.
> Mermaidcchan is happy to be reunited with her potentially lethal weapon. Abandoning the statue, Yui climbs the higheat slider and goes through it. It wasn’t very advisable to wear clothes while doing so, but there goes the volleyball player all the way down. After thrilling loops and turns, she arrives to the waters of the Varuna Pool once again.
Hey-ho, mermaid-san! Let's try and take that jar and trident! Show me your secrets....
> Yui decides to greet the mermaid right there! She seemed to be some kind of the representation for the goddess that names this pool: Varuna. The volleyball player can attest that the trident easily removable and was sharp enough to kill someone. Meanwhile, inside the jar she seems to find more things!
> Yui Narita acquired 2x Eden Coins.
[suck my ass, mobile] Go big or go home, my dudes! Yui ascends/to the higher levels.
> Yui chooses o go upstairs to reach the higher sliders, machines dispensing bubbles while you go up step by step, making the ambience seem much more cuter than it was meant to be.
> Reaching the top level, Yui could see in a immediate inspection the second slider and almost next to the ceiling of the castle the third one, available through a slider. There was also a huge statue of a mermaid made out of gold, wearing a red trident and some kind of jar.
HOLLA HOLLA GET DO-well. Not really dollars, but coins. Anyway, let's poke our nose in the castle thing. It's cute, okay?
> Fans of mermaids and mermen would certainly love that underwater-like castle, music playing in the inside of it, cheery and childish in some way, probably to make people be more pumped in this sense. At any rate, as Yui enters the castle she is given the choice to go up for the higher sliders or get in the nearby one.
> What would Yui like to do?
Oh my god, this is amazing. Let's dive right in-literally. Get the treasure, and all that.
> Diving into the pool with all her clothes on as usual, Yui could feel the salt of the pool (another salinatized one, it seemed to be) touching her skin while she sunk deeper into that place, bubbles coming right on her face along… little seahorses? Was she seeing things right? Who knows, this hotel has shown quite a lot of unbelievable things. This pool in specific has shown to be the deepest so far, probably having around two meters of profundity. Getting to the lower areas, however, she found some stuff of interest.
> Yui Narita acquired 3x Eden Coins.
Holy shit, more pools. Let's go to the Varuna pool and continue swimming in all the pools with most or all her clothes on.
> Traditions seemed to be rising as you continue stuck in this horrid hotel. Taking the Neptune Key on her hand, Yui manages to unlock the door to the Varuna Pool.
> Getting inside the room the volleyball player is welcome by the unlikely sensation of being under the sea, almost like that song from Disney’s adaptation of The Little Mermaid story. Above your head there were countless, immense jellyfishes walking around alone without any kind of predator around. You had heard some of those animals could really be big, but those were just huge. Talking about things of not very common dimmensions, it could also been noted the very big castle just in the middle of the pool of crystaline water from where three slides seemed to come from inside, one from the bottom area, one in the middle and one in the top, almost 10 meters, a point in the castle where the ceiling could be touched. Statues of mermaids were all over the place, adorning it in a fashion pretty much similar to the other pool down in the other floors.
> What does Yui wish to do?
[Rally 3, Third Quarter: START!] Why do you always say what you believe? [Re: Trial Vote] [Attn: Silas]
She’d gotten her vote wrong before. At first, she’d hoped she wouldn’t vote wrong again, as so not to earn even more ire from her classmates. But as the trial went on and she was forced to choose between Shiori and Silas, she was not only just as confused as before, but she didn’t like where the outcome was going. She voted and this time, she didn’t hope she got it correct; rather, she hoped that she was wrong. She didn’t mind being wrong this once.
You would think by now, she would be smart enough to know that hopes never reached fruition. But her optimism blinded her to anything sensible and Silas was revealed as the killer.
“…”
He was the last person she would imagine to have killed someone; wasn’t his whole deal about not doing bad things like killing? Listening to his explanation, she felt a little better. It was an accident, right? She wasn’t sure about the martyr thing but he had just been trying to stop Shiori and she’d fallen and…
“An accident…that’s all it was, right? It’s not like ya meant to do it. So…So it’s fine.I’m not mad or nothin’-I mean, you were prolly…like, scared and stuff cuz’ like holy shit you accidentally killed a girl! An’ I wouldn’t wanna die like Xavcchan either, ya know? So I mean…I dunno what I mean. I feel I oughta apologize for like…losing faith in you and thinking you did it-I mean yeah, you did actually do it but still, I should be trustin’ my friends a bit more than this. ”
She shrugged, not entirely sure what she was saying anymore and let others have their say. Some called him a delusional prophet, yet others were agreeing with her. It seemed that votes split the class into more than just who the killer was. This trial was a mess and she just wanted it over with. She faced Silas one last time and smiled at him apologetically.
“For what it’s worth, at least you made sure nobody starved. I dunno if it’s really martyrin’ or whatever they’re calling it, but at least you actually succeeded? I tried but I guess I didn’t go about it right…[so thank you for doing I what I couldn’t, Sicchan.]
[Rally 3, Second Quarter: START!] Every proclamation guarantees free ammunition for your enemies [Re: Everything,as per usual]
She didn’t want to be here.
After the disaster that was the consequences of grabbing the apple, she’d hoped that everything would have been alright. Everyone else seemed to be…well, not as stupid as she was so surely they would be able to endure this ordeal.
Sadly, idle hopes and wishes were long since dead and she was forced into another trial-this time for Shiori. Whom she had never met, but still, any death was horrible. The trial started up, clues poured in and once more she had nothing to contribute. Once again, she was useless as hell. So she kept quiet and listened to the points being brought up. She couldn’t vote wrongly again, she really couldn’t.
Silas brought up that he’d been guarding the apple fairly early on and she cocked her head and looked at him. Had he really? She hadn’t seen him around when she made her heist and surely if the apple was gone he would’ve mentioned it…guess Eden moves fast. She touched her neck gingerly, where the wound still remained. Yeah, she sure did.
Uriel and Silas had had a small spat, Edgaras had stepped in to publicy shame all of them or something, and she honestly wasn’t sure how to respond to that. But she might as well say something. Even if it made her look bad, she had to try and help.
“…I don’t think what I’m about to say is gonna help us at all but I figure it’s better than keepin’ it quiet.”
“So I’m not gonna go into the details of the how n’ why I did it but soon as I could, I took the apple and tore off for the kitchen. Arcchan can back me up that he saw with it in the kitchen like…five minutes after the announcement went off? Maybe more than that, I dunno. Anyway, we uh…talked and then he left. Then…Edencchan talked to me.”
She shot a wary look at Eden before continuing.
“She wasn’t happy with me takin’ the damn thing cuz’ I wasn’t using it for the reason she wanted me to-which I’m guessing is eating it outright or somethin’…? Anyway, she told me to give it back to her n’ I said no, of coursecuz’ I wasn’t gonna let…I didn’t want any of this to happen. She got real mad at me and shot me with a dart that made me really sleepy and then I kinda passed out for like two hours?”
She pushed back her hair to point out the small puncture wound left.
“I’m guessing that when Sicchan came to guard the apple, Edencchan had put it back on the tree already. But I think what I’m trying to get at is that…uh…I dunno, whoever took the apple had to have done it with bad intentions? Ah wait, if Shicchan was dead already, it didn’t matter, huh? Damn it.”
Well, scratch that. She was useless no matter what she did.
[Rally 3: START!] Nutrition is important, kids! [Motive Reaction] [OPEN]
Arlechenno pinched the bridge of his nose, attempting to hold back an impending headache. He really didn’t mean to be quite so snippy with Yui, even though she hasn’t seemed to take offense to most of it. It was an accident and she had apologized. That should have been enough for him, but between his sleep deprivation and the stress of yet another motive he just can’t let that knot of anger twisting in his gut go.
“If that were your intention, why did you not speak with us first? Surely a decision made for all should be made by all, not just a single person taking matters into their own hands. In addition, Eden specified that only one of us could have the apple. What do you think might have happened, had you been successful?”
Archie had been quickly swept up by his anger, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. His tone is harsh and more than a little heavy with his accent.
“It sounded to me like our two ‘hosts’ had more planned than just a day away in the fear room…would you have inflicted a fate worse than Nube’s (cloud/Mia) upon us all? We do not know! We cannot even be certain if the fruit itself is even truly edible. They lied to us about the bombings, and could be lying to us now. Even poison is edible…once.”
His hand buries itself in his hair, tugging in frustration.
“I understand that you wanted to help, but trying to find loopholes in a devil’s bargain will only burn you. What is the phrase…The road to hell is paved with good intentions. ”
He sighs, losing steam. Archie’s shoulders slump forward and he looks absolutely exhausted. He continues quietly, but still with purpose.
“I admire your optimism, Sicamoro. You seem almost blindly faithful to the idea that our situation will end in anything but disaster. I wish that I could hold out hope as you have, but I cannot deny what I see in front of me.”
Arlechenno glares over at the apple, a bitter frown spreading across his face.
“No good will come from eating that apple.”
Arlechenno was not having her ridiculous ideas and proceeded to shoot down her explanation. Dang.
“Oh. Well I kinda didn’t...think of that? Sorta just took it and took off, ya know? I prolly shoulda but like...when I got an idea, I just go for it! What’re they calling it...one track minded? I think? Ah well. Anyway, I don’t know what would’ve happened if we had. Didn’t think about it.”
She shrugged a little too nonchalantly. She really didn’t want to think of what would happen if this didn’t work, anyway because it was supposed to be fine. That she wasn’t able to bring her idea to light was just a little frustrating.
“Nube? Who’s that? Whoever it is, I wouldn’t...I don’t want anyone to go into that room, of course not! I just...I mean yeah, they could be lying about the apple bein’ edilbe-and I mean with it being impossible to cut, it wouldn’t surprise me- but they sure weren’t lying about all the food being gone; I checked. So...”
She bit her lip as Arlechenno more or less told her she was wasting her time and doing a lot of damage in the meantime. It wasn’t like she was trying to screw everyone over or go to hell or anything, she had just wanted to try and be of use for once.
He’d kept on, calling her...what’s sicamoro? That’s her? Huh, she didn’t get it. Still, his assertion that eating the apple would be a bad idea was too much. She felt her exasperation from the apple exude over to her tone of voice, and thus, when she spoke it was slightly annoyed though no less loud.
“But what do we do then? Wait for everyone to starve? Or even for someone to kill again? I don’t want that! If this is the only way for anyone to avoid that then, I think that’d be the better way to go, don’t you think? I know it’s not the best idea, but unless you know another way, we can’t be picky.”
[Rally 3: START!] Nutrition is important, kids! [Motive Reaction] [OPEN]
Arlechenno had left Eden’s Garden feeling relatively confident that no one would fall into such an obvious trap, at least not right away. Surely it would be a few days before anyone even considered taking up that dangerous offer. Which is exactly why he is struck dumbfounded in the doorway to the cafeteria’s kitchen as soon as he sees that bright red apple sitting upon a cutting board. He stands stock still while his brain flounders to catch up with the current situation. Archie watches Yui struggle to cut up the apple and a surge of near overwhelming apathy and futility nearly convinces him to just leave and let whatever consequences follow, follow.
It isn’t until the knife slips and Yui injures herself that his feet find the motivation to move into the room. Archie was only a few steps in before he had pulled out a folded white handkerchief from his jacket. He was most of the way to offer it to her when she noticed his presence and waved. He blinks in surprise as he feels tiny pinpricks of heat suddenly splatter on his face. A cursory touch with the tip of his gloves comes back stained with blood. Archie checks the front of his jacket. After confirming that his clothing is at least blood free, he shoots Yui a withering look before giving her the handkerchief.
“At least you were so kind as to keep your vitae off the suit. Please, do not risk further injury to your health or my dignity and staunch the bleeding, hm?”
He glances at the knife and the apple, choosing to pick up the fruit before taking a few steps backward and out of reach of the knife. Archie holds the apple up to see it better in the light, inspecting it intensely. It looks just like a ripe, perfect apple, but he looks at it like its a bomb that just hasn’t gone off yet. He frowns before sighing and setting it back down.
Eventually, he turns his attention back to Yui. She hasn’t exactly had the best track record in his book, and although he did forgive her for her vote against Zenjirou, she’s still not on his good side yet. Hopefully there will be some sort of good explanation for all of this. He takes a deep breath before folding his arms and leaning a little against the counter.
“Pray tell, what possessed you to run off with such suspicious bait? I would have thought that any potential ‘gift’ from our captors during a time where they wish us to murder one another would have been meet with a bit more caution, but apparently I was wrong. Care to enlighten me?”
As some dude named Murphy once said, if something can go wrong, it will go wrong. Yui saw herself as an optimist and usually brushed off such warnings like that but it seems he’d finally bested her and dropped a doozy of a situation on her at the same time.
Arlechenno had already held animosity for her from the trial. And she’d just bled on him, even if just a little.
“Holy fuck-I am so sorry, Arcchan! I totally didn’t mean to do that-I didn’t even think it’d fly that far, actually!”
Thankfully, aside from a rather salty retort, he didn’t seem as mad as he could have rightfully been and opted instead to give her a handkerchief to wrap her hand up with. She flashed him a grateful smile and turned to the sink to wash the wound a little before wrapping it up. During this, Arlechenno had picked up the apple-presumably to get a better look at it-before questioning her reasoning. She checked that her makeshift bandage was secure before turning to him, none the wiser to the bite in his query.
“Thanks so much, Arcchan! Ahaha...what’s this, though? Run off? Oh yeah,I guess I did, didn’t I? Sorry if that looked suuuuper suspicious but I wanted to see if this idea I had was gonna work. So, Edcchan an’ Edencchan said we could only eat from this apple, yeah? Well I thought ‘That’s not gonna feed like 16 people!’ Especially not if it’s like that-not everyone wants to like bite into an apple with a bite mark. Cuz’ y’know, some people might think it’s gross or somethin’. Anyway, I figured if I like sliced it all up and then shared it amongst everyone, then that way, we’d be fine! We wouldn’t starve an’ nobody’d have to kill anymore!”
She paused to shoot an exaggerated glare at the apple.
“Well that was the plan, but this thing’s got skin of steel! I couldn’t even dent it! Maybe it’s not even a real apple an’ it’s just like...metal shaped like an apple. I mean maybe it’s a...whatcha call it...red herrin’? I mean, it is red...”
