Conclusion @shitwheresfoxy and I came to is: the photo everyone knows is edited for them to be closer together (look at the head spacing between Connor and Tyler and Troye and Joey. It's definitely the same photo edited because all the faces /Dan's hand position is exactly the same. We have spent an hour and a half digging and researching but the only thing we could find predating 16th of June 2019 was this reblog on Max's blog which looks looks a lot more real.

Tldr: the photo is half real

In the thumbnail and video itself you can see Connor, Tyler, and Troye all wearing the same clothes as the pic, and at 4:00 you can catch Dan for about half a second also wearing the same shirt as the pic :)

i'm actually wondering if tyler and connor's tweets were the first instances of this photo being shared and someone edited the two together, which is the pic that you reblogged Max @shitwheresfoxy. and then at some point someone re-edited the the pics together (the one joey shared that now gets used in the we gay meme) which accounts for why the two pics are slightly different
