Son & Dad Barber Shop - Worth it?

Alright motherfuckers, today I'm gonna do something different; I'm gonna review about a new born barber shop in where I am now, which is Malaysia, Penang. Also my hometown.

Now, the reason why I decided to write a review about this barber shop is because that barber shops that know about clean cuts or even knows about pomade in Malaysia is quite weak. I maybe wrong, but I just feel like.. no.. Needs to write a review for barber shops, so bros out there that doesn't know this barber shop exists, now you do! :)

Okay, here we go.

Customer Service

Surprisingly promising, I've went there 3 times, twice for model reviewing and a hair cut. The time that I scheduled with them is accurate unlike like other barber shops or even saloons. If you want to have your business keep on rolling and shit, customer service is one of the most important element you should have.

Business

Still new, but I'm impressive. The 1st time I went wasn't as insane as other barber shops, but after that they're business is damn tight! But of course! That's a good thing!

Aggressiveness (Creativity)

Not as aggressive as Joe's Barber Shop (Which is another barber shop in Kuala Lumpur.) My terms of aggressiveness is Creativity. Don't judge me, I just feel like using the word Aggressiveness. Anyways, they're still GOOD with clean cuts. Bros, just try saying "Freestyle" to anyone of them. You won't regret. 

And they also do mustache shaving and all, well personally didn't have the chance.... Never will... Genes problem... :(  

My sides and back. CLEAN SHAVED. This is what I get when I said "Freestyle" LOL. But I didn't regret. Way better than a lot of saloons out there, even barber shops.

As you guys can see the pricing is not expensive, I personally tried Head Barber, not Senior or Junior Barber BUT I've seen the seniors doing it on other customers, they're pretty impressive too, I can tell no difference really. Between Head and Senior. 

Conclusion

Simply put it, to me... So far so good. There's nothing wrong between my feelings with Son & Dad Barber. I really do recommend you bros to try it out. I'll post the location below, so turn your GPS! And take a journey to Son & Dad Barber to have a clean hair cut! Oh by the way, they do sell pomades too... If I'm not mistaken, Shiner Gold, Shiner Gold Psycho Hold, Bukowski (Oil-Based), and Steadfast. As for mustache wax, I'm not sure. JUST CHECK EM OUT.

Suavecito Firm Hold

Hey bros! I'm back with another pomade review, and today I'm gonna introduce you guys a water-based Suavecito Firm Hold !

Packaging

Packaging is simple, just a little change of color compare with the Suavecito Original Hold. A typical 4oz plastic packaging. Nothing special about the packaging lads.

Scent

To me it is exactly the same smell as Suavecito Original Hold. A nice cologne scent.

Whoops! Didn't realize there's a hair on the top of the pomade.

Texture & Application

Bros, as you can see.. The color, and texture is exactly the same as Suavecito Original Hold. But! To me the application compare with the Original Hold, it's slightly different and slightly harder to control. To be honest, I've been playing with this motherfucker for a few days and I still haven't find the grib of it, UNTIL! I tried on my damp hair after bathe; till then it works like a charm.

Slickness

Pretty damn slick if you ask me for it's standard of course. At least it's slickness works better for me than Suavecito Original Hold. 

Shine

Actually, there's quite a lot of reviewers out there says that water-based pomades does shine and all, I'm not saying that they're wrong... But to me maybe because I'm staying in a hot hot country so after awhile when it dries, it's shine goes away and leaves that wet look instead of SHINE. BUT better than matte shine. To me, matte shine sucks.

Strength

Bravo, I manage to part my hair. Which that's quite strong, cos as you can see the photos below my hair is thick and curly.. So yes parting with it is good.

Bros, as you can see I brighten the photos a lot just because I want to show you guys the weak shine and this is actually taken after going out to the mall and cafes. It sagged quite a lot tho.

Hardness

If you ask me, it is exactly the same as Suavecito Original Hold. Doesn't really DRY a lot compare to quite a lot of water-based pomades out. It provides a pretty good hardness.

Re-stylability 

Maybe because that I have such annoying hair, it's quite hard to re-style unless you comb with a wet comb. It's impossible to re-style without water source.

Endurance

For some fucking reason, Suavecito Original Hold holds better. This Firm Hold doesn't really hold as good as the original. It sags after a few hours...

Conclusion

Tough.. Tough.. I guess I'm gonna say no for this pomade. To me, Strength, and Endurance is very important for me, without having these two elements, I wouldn't able to use this pomade UNLESS I'm going somewhere near. Simply put it. Suavecito Firm Hold is a no no for me.

Bros! This is only BASED by OWN opinion, so if you lads out there doesn't mind collecting pomades, go ahead, try every pomades you can get. have fun. :)

Bloody Oil-Based Pomade (VEGAN)

Hey bros! I'm really sorry that it took me almost a week to update another review. I wasn't feeling very well these days so I couldn't do any reviews, but today I'm feeling way better... So yeah! Let's do this!

Today I'm going do a oil-based pomade, petroleum free and it's vegan! Made in Malaysia!

Guys, let me introduce you all to Bloody Oil-Based Pomade (VEGAN)

Packaging

This grease comes in an aluminium can which is very common to a lot of oil-based pomade out there. Labeling printed on top, and as you can see there are some minor details that means a lot to a lot of people out there especially the Petroleum Free and I forgot, it's handmade.

Scent

Tea tree! Well it's not that strong if you ask me, to me it's just a really LIGHT scent of tea tree.

Texture & Application

Instead of watery and jelly-like, it's waxy... Yes this is how a oil-based pomade looks like... Waxy and oily at the same time.

A light to medium hold pomade for me; yes it's easy to control.

Slickness

Hmm, it does... But not what I'm asking for. Maybe it's just me, its not enough for my stiff, thick curly hair.

Shine

Light shine, but under the sunlight it gives you a really nice smooth light shine.

Strength

Not good for me. Maybe because I have a stiff and thick curly hair. So It doesn't hold up much, it's pretty weak for me.. So I recommend to those have hair like mine? Maybe this is not the pomade you're looking for.

As you bros can see after applying this pomade on, my hair is still messy as fuck and couldn't hold long either.

Hardness

Weightless, LOL. Well it doesn't harden up just like other oil-based pomades out there.

Re-styleability

Yes, all you need is a comb with you. 

Endurance

Endurance. Well I couldn't give a fair statement on this section, because it doesn't hold my hair and my hair goes all crazy after awhile. So yeah.

Conclusion

It's pretty sad I couldn't wear this pomade. Maybe it's because of my hair so I couldn't wear it. But I actually heard and saw people with straight hair uses Bloody Oil-Based Pomade (VEGAN) and they've thick hair too, works for them tho. 

So sadly Bloody Oil-Based Pomade (VEGAN) did not receives my seal of satisfaction. I'll love to wear it but no... Doesn't suit me.

Reuzel Water Soluble High Sheen Pomade

Hey bros I’m back with another water-based pomade for today! Let me introduce you bros Reuzel Water Soluble High Sheen Pomade. 

As many of you guys are probably aware of there exists a huge hype around this pomade and his brother which is a oil-based pomade (yes I’ll cover that up too once I get it in my hands).

So today what I’m gonna share with you guys is… Is it really worth the HYPE?

Packaging

This is the can. It comes in a red and rustic aluminum twist top jar.

There are a lot of people don't like the can..especially Malaysians; due to religion side, but bros from Malaysia! Don’t worry this pomade is totally HALAL. For me, by its look I kinda like it… Very catchy design I must say.

But one thing about the can is quite flimsy, so bros this guy needs to be threaten polite alright… POLITE.

Scent

One of the best scent I must say, and yes… Definitely smells better than your perfume. It smells like butterscotch. So bros if your girl friend loves butterscotch.. You may wanna consider this..

Texture & Application

Reuzel Water-Soluble applies very similarly to Suavecito and The Daimon Barber Pomade. You also find that it styles similarly (but with more control). From experience this jelly texture, suggests it should be pretty restyle-able throughout the day but with a strong ‘gel’ look.

Slickness

It’ll be pretty obvious that you’re wearing a water-based product. The hold will give you the slickness you desire, but like many other standard water-based pomades, after it dries up completely you won’t get much shine at all (even though the can says you will).

Shine

Well at least it shines a little bit, instead of looking all wet.

Strength

It’s a pretty damn strong pomade. I’ll put it somewhere between a Suavecito Original Hold and The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade.

As you can see I changed my hair sides again with Reuzel Water Soluble High Sheen Pomade, but this time with a little force, which I don’t really like it myself..

Hardness

Yes it does harden but at the same time it holds; but it needs time.

Re-styleability

Yes it’s re-styleable. 

Endurance

Yes, I’ve been wearing this pomade thru out the whole day, and only a bit here and there is off… But all you need is a comb with you, a mirror and you’re done.

Conclusion

Hmm, to me I think this pomade has some attitude problem, because when you’re styling up your air it takes TIME, unless you’ve soft and thin hair then yeah it’s easy for you, but not my effin’ thick type of hair. I spent almost 15 - 20 minutes just to get what I want. So yeah, if you’re fine with spending that much time on styling up ur hair.. Then yes I’ll suggest you Reuzel Water Soluble High Sheen Pomade.

My seal of satisfaction? Hmm, I would love to have it with me, but it could be replaced by other pomades ANYTIME… The tin can looks awesome and all, but I don’t really like the result, so yeah… Nope. And to me, it’s not worth the hype.

The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade

Hey guys! I'm back with another pomade review! Let me introduce you guys The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade a water-based pomade. This pomade was formulated and brewed up by two brothers out of London.

Quite honestly, it was their packaging that caught my eye. 

Packaging

Well fuck, just look at it.. The jars elegance made it stand out for sure. This gentleman comes in a 100g rose-colored glass jar with a black plastic twist-top. Labeling printed on wax, cotton-reinforced paper to the front and top. The top label is aligned to the front label. The minor details are always the greatest..

Scent

The scent? It smells better than your girl friend.. Or boy friend.. Just kidding!

Well It's amazing. Smells clean, smooth, and flowery.

Texture & Application

As you can see it is watery than the other 2, the color looks a little like Suavecito's but lighter. When you scoop it, it feels like soft pudding.

Remember I've written about the 2 pomades before this, I did say something like they grip my hair. BUT The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade, it was very different.  What I’m saying is that this pomade was slick instead of sticky. Needless to say, the application was simple and easy.

Slickness

All I can say is... It slicks as FUCK.

Shine

Okay, this is a surprising result... Guess what... It doesn't dry up.. Just like a oil-based pomade! So since it doesn't dry up, It gives a nice shine... 

Strength

The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade does have the strength. BUT it does not have a desirable strength. The balance and restraint shown here by the two brewing brothers reminds me of Reuzel Water-Based Pomade (Which I'll be covering that review real soon). It's fucking impressive. 

Sorry for my hairstyle, I seriously need a haircut. As you can see I tried changing my hair sides with The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade, without being forceful... This gentleman holds it over to the other side and looks natural. Instead of hardens your hair.

Hardness

Hardness level is super low compare with other 2 pomade that I've covered.

Re-styleability

A gentleman is fine with anything. So yes, it's re-styleable.

Endurance

To be honest, if you want it to look exactly the same as you set it then this is one losing point, but then don't forget tho...it's re-styleable. So I had no problems with re-styling it after I messed up my hair or whatever.

Conclusion

Conclusion is The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade can easily get you bitches, cos it smells nice and you look natural. Bitches love natural dudes. :) .

The Daimon Barber Hair Pomade receives my seal of satisfaction. I love it. It is also one of my new daily pomades.

You guys probably think I’m talking out of my ass, but I shit you not…!

Cheers to the brewers, they have truly change the whole fucking water-based pomade game.

JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine

Hey guys Lionel here, and I'm back with another review! Again, no bullshit.

What I'm about to share with you guys is another water-based JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine.

Bros, feel free to judge by it's look because to me this elegant looking pomade has a bad ass characteristic inside of it. Plastic bottle bottom, aluminum tin cap with a strap of it's signature.

Scent

To be honest, at first I didn't like the smell until after practicing with it and smelling it after a few times, I finally met with it's beautiful clean scent. Not only that clean scent alone tho, it has a fruity flowery smell to it as well! So bros if you like scents like these, you should consider trying this fella.

Texture & Application

As you can see this water based, is a bright pink color, like strawberry pudding or pink grapefruit.

In the earlier of this review I did mention that I liked the characteristic of it? Well I'll tell you why.. As you can see it looks stiff unlike other water-based pomades out there, but as you stuff your finger in; again it feels like a soft butter BUT stickier.. Sorta like a oil-based pomade also.. A hybrid I must say but this is 100% water-based bros don't worry. It's easy to work with it altho it's a Heavyweight (Strong Hold) pomade. If you want me to compare with Suavecito... Well I honestly can't compare both of them because they're totally different and I mean with the texture and application.

Slickness

Now this is the best part. We all had those days like we don't feel having our hair styled up but it looks too messy if we don't? Well JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine will help you on setting your hair and it is as simple as fuck and most importantly it looks good. But if you're looking for good slickness pomades, well this pomade doesn't slick as much as Suavecito Original Hold Pomade but it's good enough.

Shine

Just like all water-based pomades out there, after it dries up the shine dies.

Strength

I can't say that it's HEAVY because there are a lot more pomades out there that has a STRONGER HOLD than JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine. I had a pretty bad experience with it at first when I bought this fella, when I apply for the first 10 minutes, it doesn't hold, it's lighter than Suavecito Original Hold Pomade. And this is a Strong Hold pomade we're talking about, but after when it dries up and all... It transform and HOLDS.

As you can see, I did not create pomps with JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine, It's because that after understanding it's application and it's unique characteristics. I personally gave it a role and that is providing me a clean lazy hair style.

Hardness

It hardens. You’ll get a nice locking feature with this pomade without it getting too crusty.

Re-styleability

Definitely possible, but I personally suggest that you'll need a little source of water, just to touch up a little here and there. Just a little tho.

Endurance

It did a great soft-hard holding my clean hair in place. It has the same resilience as Suavecito Original Hold Pomade, which means that it’ll stay against windy, sunny, and humid conditions.

Conclusion

Simply put it. JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine receives my seal of satisfaction. I love it. It is one of my new daily pomades. Its simple to handle, the clean scent, and overall reliability makes it a great addition to my shelf. I’d HIGHLY recommend to you bros but you bros should look into it yourself if you’re looking for a reliable water-based pomade.

Suavecito Original Hold Pomade

Hi guys, Lionel here and today I decided to write a pomade review. Since there isn't much Malaysian pomade reviewers out there, I decided to make a blog and share my thoughts about Pomades, and yes I'm totally new with writing reviews. Just to let you all know that I'm doing this without any profit and I'm using my OWN Pomade collection to share with you guys, so there will be no bullshit. I promise 100%

Oh and I have curly, thick, frizzy hair.

 Alright this pomade that I'm going to share is a MUST HAVE for those who are new to Pomades, wanna start loving pomades and not getting all disappointed with your pomade? Let me introduce you Suavecito Original Hold Pomade.

Now, let's talk about the packaging. What I can say is, it is very simple. 4 oz plastic container, and glossy stickers BUT don't be fooled by it's appearance tho, to me this is one hella bad boy. Scent

What do we do when we want to buy a product that you have never had before? Smell it right? So okay the smell of this pomade it's pretty nice, a nice cologne scent. But when you start rubbing it between your palms the scent starts to change a little.. Just a little. So for those bros out there that don't like having a strong scent on them don't worry it doesn't smell as 'SHARP' as perfumes or even other pomades out there.

I'm sorry bros that have to take a photo in the toilet, well it's because that th- blah blah blah. Anyways let's talk about the texture.

Texture

As you can see it has a shining look on it and watery too, well it is because it is a Water-Based pomade. You will not have hard time getting it out, try to imagine having ur finger on a soft butter but stickier; yeah that's how it feels like.

1st word problems with curly hair people, we have quite a lot of difficulties on having a slick back hair style, but this bad boy provide us curly hair people of having that slick back hair style. I would say it's a pretty slick shit.

Shine

Like any other water-based pomades out there; shine dies after it dries up.

Strength

Now the best part, just wanna be clear to u guys... This bad boy is a medium hold pomade, which also means that it is suitable for all types of hair. Clear? Alright let's go.

It has a decent hold, not in terms of the hold but the quality of the control. I personally tried a few water-base medium hold pomades but in the end I still end up loving the control of Suavecito Original Hold Pomade. Just try it.

As you can see I have a messy curly hair, and frizzy too but this bad boy helped me on slicking back my hair a friendly comb control too.

Hardness

It doesn't dry much at all. It’s to the extent as it hardens but never gets crusty.

Re-stylability 

You might want a source of water to work with, of course. But it works well without it, for minor corrections.

Endurance

Apparently I tried wearing it for the entire day in air-cond places, roadsides burger stores, and outdoor cafes; doesn't sag as much as other water-based pomades. Impressive really.

Conclusion

Simply put it. Suavecito Original Hold Pomade receives my satisfaction without any doubts, or shit…except that I wish it was in a nicer jar.

What is Pomade, and what's the difference between Pomades, Gels, and Waxes? What's the Difference?

There are so many types and categories of hair styling products, choosing one can be frustrating. So I'm here to help you narrow down your choices by describing each category of men's styling products and their differences.

Pomade

There are two types of pomade; petroleum based (a.k.a oil base) and water based.

Oil based pomades are the ORIGINAL kind. Yes THE Original. They are made with real grease and fatty ingredients to produce the shine and hold; also it may take a few days to flush em out from your hair.

Water based pomades are water soluble making them easier to wash out of the hair than grease. These are also better for the health of the scalp but some bros just prefer to stick with the classics. Easily washed out, just like Gels.

Pomades are meant for those that want to achieve slick, neat and shiny and especially for styles like the pompadour, quiff or ducktail. 

Pomades, Gels, Waxes: What's the Difference?

The difference between hair wax and pomade is that pomade gives a slicker, shinier appearance, while wax doesn't.

And also the difference between hair gel and pomade is that hair gel gives a wet look and hardens your hair more than a water-base pomade, and after awhile under the sun or a warm place, gels 'melt' and it's hard to restyle it like how u used to have before leaving your house. But in the other hand, water base or oil base pomades do "melt" when it comes to warm or under the hot sun, but you can always pull out your pocket comb and tidy your hair up without any difficulties (Well maybe a little, but not as difficult as gel).
