Btw, I finally watched Misery (1990) and I have to keep it real with y'all, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the novel. That's a real shame because both James Caan and Kathy Bates were so good in this thing and had amazing chemistry. Unfortunately, the movie was determined to defang the story, refusing both to allow Paul Sheldon to actually show suffering and despair and to let Annie Wilkes actually be cruel and sadistic. They didn't even really let her mutilate this man, I was so disappointed. I also think that it's a very strange choice because why would you even watch a movie that's all about a guy being kidnapped and held hostage if you don't want to see fucked up and unhealthy dynamics?
All that to say that I'm profoundly sad that we didn't get James Caan version of Paul Sheldon crying and swearing that he'll be a good boy while Kathy Bates version Annie threathens to make him eat his own severed thumb while playing up a sickly sweet motherly persona…They would have eat this scene like Paul Sheldon was afraid he was gonna have to eat his own body part, I'm telling you.
