I get why Scar is portrayed as the more 'social' one between himself and Grian. Scar is friendly and bubbly and charismatic, and people tend to run with that, whereas in some (particularly life series) Grian characterizations, his snark and tendency to complain about his teammates gets interpreted as Grian being less attached to people and generally less socially aligned.

..The thing for me, though, is that Grian's way more socially dependent than Scar is.

Now don't get me wrong Scar likes people, his charisma is one of his best traits, and he does prefers to play toward having a team over not having one. It's a running theme, actually, in the Life Series, where Scar will end up alone because, while he does hypothetically want to be with people, it's never a huge priority.

Last Life comes to mind, where Scar, despite complaining about not having allies, actively keeps his allies at arms length and rejects alliance deals. Or Double Life, where Scar thinks about everything but finding his soulmate for the whole first episode. Or Secret Life, where Scar actively rejected whole alliance offers because he didn't want the commitment (his words) in the early game.

Grian, on the other hand, cannot survive without people. He makes sure he is never alone. Grians "team hopping" gets pointed to as disloyalty, him seeing people as disposable, but to me it reads more like desperation. Clinging to Joel after having to leave his team in Last Life, hovering around BigB when Scar shows limited interest in him during early Double Life (also the way grian subtly romanticized soulmates in his first episode was sweet and very telling), immediately team swapping to the Nosy Neighbors after his team died in Limited Life, doing the same thing and jumping into The Family after his team died in Wild Life..

I think the best example though is the one time Grian was alone for any real margin of time. Secret Life. Grian was alone for a few episodes and it had a noticeable negative impact on him, to the point where he was throwing himself at Joel and practically begged Etho and Cleo to keep him around. At this point in the same season Scar had rejected alliances and was relatively happy playing solo without the commitment of a team.

Scar is extraverted in the sense that he enjoys being around people and has a lot of fun with socializing. Grian is socially dependent in the sense that I think he'd literally crawl into any of the other lifers skin if they let him.

(to be fair..scar is a cat and grian is a parrot. cats are facultatively social animals who can adjust to both group and isolated living. parrots are highly social animals who absolutely need daily interaction, as in, they can develop severe depression and anxiety if they don't socialize for even one day. so. checks out, i think.)

I totally see your vision with tango/scar, like the pool peeing was very targeted, they annoy each other so much and like scar getting him back by doing the same on his grave. Their personalities bounce in a very fun way. Like they're trying to court each other by being annoying/tormenting and hate kiss while at it

We have a fucking Vex and A Blaze kin who are, by complete fucking accident, doing the courting rituals of eachothers species. And Dont Even Realize It.

Vex's are little shits! They prank!! They Be Annoying!!! The more annoying the more attention they'll get from their love!!! They want to Be annoying until Their Love Snaps and Does Something To Stop Them.

Blaze's are beings of fire. They Burn. They Live amongst Fire. Creating a home of it is a sign they want to Be With You. Create a Life Together. Of.... Fire- So Cozy.....

Scar thinks Tango wants his attention SOOO SO SO SO BAD. But Has to Consider that he's just trying to make enemies because They're often in a DEATH GAME. So MAYBE Tango is trying to trap him!! Tango keeps seeing Scar turn his homes into flames and has to work through so many brain hoops to figure out "does he know. does he know what hes doing is he doing this on purpose??? I don't know i DONT KNOW IM GONNA GO POKE HIS DAMN BUTTONS IN RETALIATION!!!!!"

I cant simply leave this soley in life series. I HAVE to point at PoePoe Scar's tnt room above Tangos base. That whole moment. Scar Is threatning to blow up Tangos Home and Him In It. Tango is So. Losing his god damn mind because that is just. So Direct!! To Have him here to watch!!! So he becomes annoying!!! Taunt Him To See If He's Being Legit. Call His Damn Bluff!! Breaking the glass to pull the lever- Yeah yeah on some level he doesn't think it'll work. its scar redstone afterall- But doesn't that just Make It Sweeter?? To just pretend he's going to blow up Tangos Factory?? But Tango Reaching for that Lever like. "😳Are We... Are... Are We Doing This??? Are We??? 😳😳😳" And Scar trying to hold himself together because Hes TRYING TO DO HIS JOB. WITH THREATS. OF BIG DANGEROUS ARSON EXPLOSIONS!!! TANGO. STOP. BEING ANNOYING!!! HE'S GONNA RIP HIS HAIR OUT AUURHRHGHGHGHH. HE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE HES WORKING. AND THAT WOULD BE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Hello everyone! I want to step away from the usual routine for a moment to speak on something that has been brought to my attention by a member of my little community.

This is not a call out post or should be used to attack the invidiual I am going to be speaking of because that is not what I want to use my community for. Instead, this is something that should be brought to attention and educated on.

There is a member of our community (and possibly more) that are demonizing mental disorders for their OCs. The OC I wish to speak about today has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder).

DID is formed as a survival mechanism after repeated/severe trauma in childhood, the brain basically sees it's unable to process that amount/kind of stress and splits that traumatic experience in smaller and easier to contain pieces, creating dissociative barriers between the parts so that the child can go on with their life and withstand that stress. Those pieces being called Alters.

Those alters can be either created by the brain itself or from "molds" taken from existing media, but every alter is formed for a reason, usually because of traces or characteristics that it believes would help it survive better. There are alters that have a convoluted/"crooked" view on what they can do to help, but it's always with the goal of helping, not causing harm unnecessarily.

To preface, there is nothing wrong with giving your OCs a mental disorder, but it is wrong when you demonize said disorder. The artist in question says their OC has a serial killer side because said OC has DID. This, along with making a "serial killer" alter in general, is not only unrealistic, but very disrespectful to those who have DID.

I wished to speak on this a month ago when it was first brought to my attention, but the person who informed me said they got in contact with said creator and so I left it be thinking it was resolved. I was recently told that my informant has been blocked and the post/OC has not been changed in anyway.

This is not okay, which is why I am making this post now in hopes my voice will inform them (and others who may doing the same) that they should change their ways. DID and other mental disorders already go through so much demonizing in media. Please, let's not do this in what is an accepting and loving community. If you want an OC with a mental disorder, educate yourself and treat it with the proper respect it deserves. Do not go after this person or attack them, but please use this as a chance to educate yourself and others kindly to please change.

My informant has asked to stayed anonymous at this time, but I have been shown screenshots and conversations to prove this is something actually happening within TFC community. If the person I am speaking of sees this then I have one message for you.

Do better.

I was interested in the information you provided and wanted to ask a clarifying question-reasoning, if you allow me and are ready for this discussion. I do not have this mental disorder, so I cannot say anything for sure on this issue. And also English is not my native language, so I may make mistakes in spelling.

But can't an alternate personality kill other people for defensive purposes? That is, consciousness believes that these people pose a danger to a person and threaten life, and for the purpose of self-defense, the alternative personality kills these people.

But in fact, the people killed were not life-threatening. But only the consciousness thought so, due to being in survival mode for a long time, stress and fear

Although I don't know who you were talking about. I am really sincerely interested in your opinion on this situation from this point of view. Ignore this if you don't want to respond

I wanted to reply because I think that is significant in this particular conversation, I know quite a bit about this subject. The short answer is technically maybe.

The longer answer is that it's disrespectful to represent DID like that, it's kinda like the "crazy person in a straightjacket" stereotype for schizophrenia. Can that be the case for some very specific situations? Maybe, technically- but the large majority of people won't experience that. Both schizophrenia and DID are heavily stigmatized and oftentimes people with those disorders are seen as crazy or even dangerous because of content like this. You have to understand that most people nowadays won't even Google something, so it's even HARDER for someone to actually research the topic being represented.

That means that a lot of the people that saw that OC post for example will know DID as "killer personality disorder" for..God knows how long. Maybe forever, it's a niche topic, not everyone is interested. There are so many pieces of media that show DID that way because of that technically possible very specific outcome that you proposed. It's so rare to find good representation of DID that every single good example is cherished like diamonds in the plural community.

So it's a matter of being respectful. It doesn't matter if that could happen or if "oh but that would drive the story well!"- just don't do it. Find another plot, find a better way to make that alter protect their system in a convoluted way. Most of the time new alters split to endure the danger in those situations, that's their whole job, to act like a barrier between the stress and the rest of the system. You don't need to show them as killers. Maybe if it's a life threatening situation a protector or such will front to negotiate, flee or even submit to the attacker if that will grant them survival. Killing in self defense is a possibility but it's just good to stray away from that side completely if you're not being ultra careful and doing your research, because at the end of the day these are real disorders and everything you do affects the real people with those disorders.

Here in Brazil a while back people were talking about bringing back a torture facility for the mentally ill just because a system was "kinda cringe" on the news and people thought they weren't valid. And it wasn't even the case! They just had a more overt presentation of the disorder!

See the danger? I hope I was able to get the point across well enough, but props to you for asking
