You say so devastatingly that
Death had gone without fear
And perhaps it is but the way I have always been prey
But you say that in knowing me
You are scared of dying

âThese flowers are all fangs. Comfort me, fury. Wake me, witch,â
â Theodore Roethke, from The Collected Poems; âThe Shape of the Fire,â
The Signs and Rage
Aries: To preserve oneself until after the end of the world. A slow change. Awakening to a nightmare of broken glass and the long frozen bodies of those who were to be your family. Strength to smash the tanks and lumber to meet the sun with hatred.
Taurus: Another poor casualty of war. Missed by the corpse-grinders. The belly of the thing meant to renew that rotting husk you call a body. You can hear them crying out for you. This crucible of flesh and steel will be your new body. Take the revenge you so rightly deserve.
Gemini: You used to gaze at the sky, envious at the freedom of passing clouds. But now the sky is razed and acrid, but information knows neither pain nor death. You spent a lifetime mastering the deep calculus, assuming its fleeting form, and one day you will find who it was who took the sky from you.
Cancer: Ever higher the old empires build as the foundations of the world sink ever deeper into the poison and rot. The sunless diseased things that escape from the deep shafts threaten to pull the world into the noxious deep. Kill the vermin. Seal the holes. Defend what feeble light remains.
Leo: A doomed military expedition to the deep places. A pillar of bones clawing upwards, fossilized in place. Soldiers and officers and kings all desperately trying to escape some nameless horror born by untold centuries without the sun.Â
Virgo: Last of the ancient noble war machines, finally running low on a fuel that hasnât been made in centuries. Legions of enemy dead at your feet but still they come, seeking dominion over the heap of ruin and slag your people called a home. There is still napalm in your lungs and you will show these invaders what it means to raze earth.
Libra: An outcast among outcasts. Free from all compunctions and laws that bind the lonely residents of the world. Forgotten arts, esoteric and profane, pulled from the ruins of once-great places. When nothing is left, the only thing to do is to build something new.
Scorpio: Hunger. Hunger unimaginable. Hunger like dropping a pebble into the sea. Hunger for the very stars in the sky. Hunger for the living. hunger for the dead. Hunger for thought and feeling and dreams. Hunger so deep and bottomless it turns the mind and body inside-out so that one might eat the world itself so that there may not be any hunger ever again.
Ophiuchus: A traitor who gave everything for their people, only to watch as the world burned around them. Nothing left to defend, but a slave to ancient failsafes. An eternity spent waiting to be rightly bested.Â
Sagittarius: Pulled too early from your cocoon and stolen for petty things. The change happened quickly. Something new and flexible and strong and vicious. Cold blood. Returning what was supposed to be home. Watching over the ones still waiting.
Capricorn: Too many aches and pains from too long a life. Hydraulics and gearing now. Too many memories of fire and death. Wires and circuits now. Too much time. Defend. Defend what? Too much time. Too many memories of fire and death. Defend. Kill any that attempt to cross.Â
Aquarius: You were built to sustain this place. To see the blueprints in your mind. Your brother was built to make what you need, for the heavy work. Both of you were left abandoned. Left to rot as this citadel crumbles around you. The both of you agreed to let it do just that.
Pisces: You were never supposed to happen. Nobody ever could have expected you. Millenniums unknown of attempts and failures to harness this infernal engine. Ash and slag and dead flesh melded seamlessly together into something wholly new. You. All of you, now stand as caretaker to the rampant engine that gave you life.
