Lessons from a hermit crab
I had a few hermit crabs growing up and I recently found myself thinking about them. I remember one in particular that was I lost somewhere in my room. Try as I may I could not find him anywhere, a few days after his disappearance I found an empty shell, not a good sign. I never did find his little body, my Mom probably found it when cleaning up and spared me the sight, but it brings up an interesting point.
As hermit crabs grow, they eventually need to leave their existing shell and move into a new, roomier one. When they leave their old shell and start crawling to their new one they are at their most vulnerable. The growing hermit crab has to risk everything and put itself in great danger in order to grow.
Itās a great metaphor for entrepreneurship and life in general. Our old shells are safe and comforting, but like the humble hermit crab, if we want to grow risks have to be taken, shells have to be discarded. While the space between that old shell (or old self) and new one can seem vast and frightening, in order to achieve we all have to walk the expanse alone with only our carapace to protect us. I only hope, that like the hermit crab, the desire for progress drives me to leave behind the present comforts and take that walk of delicious uncertaintiy over and over and over again.Ā

Hello Spring
ContinuingĀ Fun Shirt Coverage
Wonderful.
Fantastic! Itās actually earlier than the 1980s. Probably earlier than 1971. Two reasons: 1)Ā In December 1971, the Federal Trade Commission mandated garment care labelling on clothing. This tag only statesĀ āAll Cottonā and no care labelling (ie., āMachine Wash Hotā etc.). 2) The deep shirttails were gone by the late 1970s. A wowzer of a Fun Shirt.
