Josh Johnson: So much of the of the culture, so much of what people like about a culture that they're willing to take in, they try to do as best as possible to the exclusion of the people that the culture is actually from. Right? So, you'll see how people of Latin descent have been treated in this country the entire time while we fall in love with more and more and more and more of their stuff. You know what I mean? And it's something that obviously happens to black people. It's something that's happened to Asian-Americans and everything, but it's something that doesn't always get addressed is that if you loved what we make, then just love us. We made it.
SINNERS (2025) dir. RYAN COOGLER // JOSH JOHNSON (10.7.25)

Twisted and mindful
We were kept far far apart
Fooled, and I knew it
The upcoming days at the Commission will be my last ones. Now that I know both my sisters are here and alive, I will find them, and weâll leave this place just like I intended all those years ago.

âCome in.â
Kyra was sitting in her office, responding to the three rapts of someoneâs knuckles on her door.Â
The set up that the Commission had given Kyra had gotten progressively cushier over the decade that she had worked there. Her own office, a deskplate, a mug, some bookshelves. Of course, it was nothing compared to what people like the Handler and AJ had. She knew her place.Â
However, it was better than the life of a field agent.
Working as the prophetic consultant for the timeline meant a lot of visions and a lot of paperwork. Kyra was mostly isolated in her work, save for her meetings with AJ and the few times she interacted with other employees in the main building's cafeteria.Â
She was unaware of how meticulous the process was to keep her away from running into a certain Agent Dolly on those occasions.Â
In through the door walked AJ.
âGood afternoon, Kyra.â
âHello.â
She had been waiting for him already, leaned back in her chair and held some paperwork loosely in her right hand. She let them slip from her grasp and fall onto the desk.
AJ invited himself to come and stand by her desk. He did not sit down, remaining on his high ground.Â
âSo⌠any chance of storms for today?â
âIâm not a weatherman.â
âYou know what I mean.â
Kyra inhaled, letting the air circulate through her brain.Â
âLast night, I⌠I saw something strange.â
âGo on.â
âAnother field job being altered. Involving two agents.â
Kyra didnât know if it was safe to press with AJ. What would he tell her without becoming suspicious? Without knowing what she was thinking?
How long did he think it would take before I found out?
âAlright. Make sure the paperwork gets completed by the deadline. Weâre pushing some of those back to comply with the Kennedy facilitation.â
Thatâs it?
âDid you need me for something else?â Kyra asked, perturbed.Â
AJ fiddled around in his tank.Â
âYouâve been a long time employee, Seer. I only came in because⌠itâs come to my attention that you have an opportunity for an upreach. More power.â
âI thought I was just a cog in the machine. Equal to everyone else.â
âWell, some cogs are more equal than others.â
Silence.
âLook, youâre smart. Iâm sure you can figure out what I mean. Youâre up for a promotion.â
Kyra tapped her fingers on her desk.
âWhat kind of promotion?â
She was looking down. At the things covering her desk. The new belongings she had acquired during her time at her job.
âFor a position much like the Handlerâs.â
Kyra stopped cold at her desk. âIâm up for the Handlerâs job?â
AJ clacked his fish like teeth together. âNot precisely. It would be very personalized to your skills, of course. However, the Handler has become much more focused on an agent of hers that sheâs in charge of. And I feel that⌠sheâs letting personal emotions become mixed with business.â He gestured with his hands, interlacing his fingers together.
Kyra hummed. â...So what does that mean?â
Iâm not taking that job. In fact, I donât want anything more to do with this place anymore.
AJ took a few steps backward. âIt means that you sleep on it. If I were you, though, Iâd take advantage of your time and power here. Why not step up on the ladder?â
Kyra suddenly perked up. âWould that mean that I wouldn't be holed up here anymore? Iâd be moved to a new location? The main building?â
AJ scratched the back of his head. âIâm⌠afraid not. Your attention and use to the Commission is much more effective when youâre isolated. Agents need not see you.â
Of course.Â
That was all the reassurance Kyra needed. She wasnât going to be brought into the light, not ever. And it was clear AJ had planned to keep up this game indefinitely, just to squeeze everything they needed from her out. The promotion was only an illusion of change. Keeping her on the teat.Â
âRight. Well⌠I guess Iâll think about it.â
AJ headed toward the door, tipping his finger toward her like he was satisfied. âThatâs what I thought. Good on you.â
