The world of academia is considered highly male centric despite that the aesthetic seems to be dominated by young queer women. I am not a fan of Donna Tartt so I have collected alternatives from my own collection of books and a few from friends and family. Some of the books may not be exactly “dark academia” or a set academic aesthetic but they all address female experiences and are academically acclaimed.

is it autumn already?
5th November 2020: Remember, remember, the Fifth of November / Gunpowder treason and plot…
It’s Bonfire Night! Arguably, this is the UK’s weirdest celebration when you consider its origins but it’s my favourite of the year. I’m spending my day working on my thesis introduction and eating copious amounts of parkin before tonight’s festivities.

“Even during his lifetime, Linnaeus’s relentless sexualizing of his subject matter often raised critical eyebrows and occasionally inspired tirades in print. Linnaeus, in turn, immortalized his critics by naming ugly or obnoxious plants after them.”
I aspire to this level of academic pettiness
March sisters + hand-me-down dresses
An interesting costuming decision in the 1994 adaptation of Little Women was having the younger March sisters wear the elder sisters’ old dresses. At the Christmas party after her recovery from scarlet fever, Beth wears Jo’s red dress which she wore to the Gardiners’ New Years’ party a year prior. Years later, teenage Amy is seen wearing Meg’s old blue dress which she wore to Sallie Moffat’s coming out party. Considering that the Marches lived in genteel poverty, it was unlikely that they could afford new clothes for all four children, so it would make sense that the younger sisters wore hand-me-downs. The choices also reflect the sisters’ bond: Beth is closer to Jo, while Amy is closer to Meg.

Going to treat my boyfriend to a birthday dinner on Monday and help him move in. I've just been told who my supervisor is for my dissertation so I can figure out what sort of topic to research now (any ideas for cognitive neuroscience?)

Countdown to the Massachusetts Bar Exam: 32 Days.
I had a work shift today, so I sort of arranged my calendar so that I could take today off instead of a typical weekend day. A lot of my photos are taken at night because for some reason, that appears to be my peak productivity hour. I really snap into action at like 9:45 at night.
Pictured here is a delightful peach pie I picked up at a farm stand the other day :)
