Hi - I'm an artist and came across your picture of a green chevy pickup truck full of flowers on Nantucket and would love to paint it at some point. Would you be open to my basing a painting off your image?
Sure!
Running out the door dressed for Christmas Eve dinner. J Press blazer and belt, Brooks OCBD, old 501s with let down hems, Marcoliani Santa socks and Alden tassels.
Not sure if you're ever in Boston, but The Andover Shop in Cambridge, MA makes the best khakis around. They've got weight to them and have a solid rise. Also extremely affordable at $80. They do custom trousers as well.
Great idea! I’m not that often, but when I am next, I will.
Follow up on Panta. The website is not the greatest. The best thing to do is to email Ed. Tell him what you are looking for, and he will try and make it happen. Since you are close to NYC, I would even see if you can drop by his office to try on some things. Some of the MTM trousers he has done are stunningly good, so if the RTW doesn't work...I hope the search works out.
I will! The stone cotton gabardine would fill a hole in my wardrobe.
Per khakis: not sure what you are looking to spend but Panta makes amazing trousers RTW and MTM. Made in NYC to high standards.
Thanks! Unfamiliar with them but will check out. Further suggestions for natural rise, straight not slim, tapered khakis are welcomed.
Sorry to bother but one quick question have you found the perfect khaki yet? I've too been on the quest for quite some time and haven't found the tapered khaki with a nice tapered leg.
No trouble! Unfortunately, I haven’t. Polo’s made-in-Italy Preston pants are the best I’ve found for dress purposes, but they’re no longer in production. Bill’s M2/3, Jack Donnelly, O'Connells, and J. Press are all well made, but all not quite right.
What I’m looking for are pants that fit like J. Press’s khakis, but with a slightly more tapered leg opening. I’d welcome any reader suggestions.
Time for my annual Vans Authentics re-up

What's going on with TDP??? She blocked my IP awhile back after visiting IVY Style where apparently there was a huge uproar over her and her husband... Anyway, it's odd none the less. I just saw her site from my cellular IPad and noticed she changed the name and dropped every reference to her and her husband. Wow. I didn't realize blogging could be that stressful. Did you get your new job you were working towards? Hope all is well.
A couple of people have asked me similar questions, and the answer is I have no idea! Aside from reading and occasionally commenting on TDP/whatever, I have no relationship or communication with Muffy Aldrich--so I have no particular insight on that front. I'd suggest asking her directly. Hopefully you get a response. I did get a new job and have been working and living in Connecticut for about 6 months now--thanks for asking!
Very cold Sunday: Bean fisherman's sweater, Orvis shearling gloves, forest Patagonia
Are you from Noank? It's my dream to live there.
I grew up just outside Noank Village, though I live in Greenwich now. Noank is a beautiful, very special place--it really stands head and shoulders above any other fishing village in Connecticut. I'd love to live there again someday.
Dispatch from home: A strange cloud rolling in over Noank Village, CT.
Shining some tassel loafers.
Hello, Happy New Year! I don't see you posting much anymore... got bored?
Happy new year! I'm alive. I've moved and started a new, more demanding job. Of course it would only take minimal effort to iPhone my work getups, but I've just lacked the energy and interest lately. I'm sure that'll change in the future. Hope you're well, WRJ.
This morning's view down to Greenwich Harbor
Grossman's Seafood is closing shop this week after nearly 100 years in business. I was the third generation to shop at their location on Noank Road in Mystic, Connecticut. Growing up, we didn't buy fresh seafood anywhere else--and certainly never at the grocery store.
They will be missed.
