So I've known that I've been gay for a while now, but I haven't told my parents yet. They're extreme Catholics and I'm not sure how to come out in front of them. I want them to accept me for who I am but I'm not sure that they can. Please help?
Check out the article that was just posted an hour ago, “Coming out to your parents.” I think this article is a good resource, since not only does it contain academic counsel but also real-life experiences. This article contains interviews from 6 different people who came out to their parents. Coming out to your parents is a different experience for every person. In the article it mentions how authoritative parents are more likely to be accepting. So basically, what this means it to assess what your parents are like. The main thing to consider is if you are safe. Safety is always important. If you feel like telling your parents will foster a dangerous environment– don’t rush into it.I hope this article can give you the courage to come out to your parents, and most importantly– support. In situations like this, its always nice to know that you’re not the only person who goes through things like this. I hope this helps!
