Environments I’ve been working on/off since... March? April? They were meant to be for practice but I got carried away in them :P Pretty OK for a first attempt at environments if I say so myself (a LONG attempt at environments), but I should probably limit myself to 1 hour studies before attempting the big stuff. I got over-ambitious again :P
Wanted to bring back and redesign an old OC that I never fully developed before. Their name is Cybil and they have a unique skin property that prevents ink on their bodies from remaining permanent, so every 6 months they appear with a completely new tattoo on their left arm. Excuse me if my tattoo job is sub-par. Then again, its probably hard to tattoo yourself :/
I made a second Gemsona, because one wasn’t enough and three’s too much (she’ll be the last one, promise). I’ll probably use her as well as Volcano in OoA. PROBABLY.
She’s Spinel, a former Homeworld Gem who also happens to be a traveling magician on Earth. I notice everybody’s making their Gems friendly and caring, so I wanted a character with an abrasive personality instead, because in a community of happy friendly characters, you need that one jerk who balances all that “friendly energy” out. Personality: Flashy, energetic and enthusiastic, Spinel is a Gem that demands to be the center of attention and craves the spotlight. Her loud and rambunctious attitude is a product of her time as a magician, where she wowed crowds of humans for centuries with her “magical” performances. However, she is also known to be self-centered and easily bored of others, to a point where she’s willing to sacrifice her team’s well-being if it means reaping her own rewards. Spinel can be hard-headed at times, jumping into situations with reckless abandon, but will run off if the situation gets too grim. She’s not afraid to speak her mind, and likes to make others laugh (usually at the expense of another). In a fight, Spinel relies on misdirection and rogue-like skill, using her abilities to confuse and enrage opponents.
Here’s my take on what our temple-fusion looks like (sorry if it looks rushed I only spent an hour on it)
Basically I decided to make it so the structure is supporting the ground above it, making a cove where the water falls over the face like a veil and pools around the statue before flowing on. I’m thinking that the only way to enter the temple (on foot) is through some kind of scaffold wrapping around the body, maybe something more elaborate. I’m not too sure about the temple’s entrance, maybe at the base of the abdomen or base of the neck?? Also I decided to leave some parts broken and most intact (the pool around the temple’s probably filled with statue parts).
As for the face I made it relatively normal. The three gems on top (belonging to the members with gem-eyes) are above the “normal” eyes, and the eye-shaped lines around them are just markings; the gem “eyes” don’t actually move. I’m thinking the fusion may be blind, but uses the gems on their head to sense where things are (still considering it). Also I gave the fusion a cool flip-down visor, which makes no sense because this fusion can’t see anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some sketches of Volcano. I'm considering joining Order of Amulets as a side activity when commissions are slow, or when I'm just bored :P I dunno, I'll think about it some more. It's pretty neat.
