Places Included in Rajasthan Golden Triangle Tour
Rajasthan's Golden Triangle is basically three cities, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Jaisalmer, packed into one trip. If you have never done this route, this is honestly one of the best ways to see Rajasthan without stretching yourself too thin. Here is what you will cover across all three cities.
Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort sits right above the city and the view from the top is something else give it at least 2 to 3 hours.
Jaswant Thada is just next to the fort, a white marble cenotaph that most people rush past but is worth a slow visit.
Umaid Bhawan Palace is still home to the royal family and part of it runs as a hotel. Even if you are not staying, the museum inside is worth it.
Clock Tower and Sardar Market are where the real Jodhpur is; spices, sweets, chaos and colors are all in one place.
Jaipur
Amer Fort is 11 km outside the city on a hill with a lake at its base; go early before the crowds arrive.
Hawa Mahal is the one everyone photographs from the outside, the five-story pink building with 953 small windows.
City Palace is still partly lived in by the royal family; the silver urns inside hold a Guinness World Record.
Jantar Mantar sits right next to City Palace, giant astronomical instruments from the 1700s that still work.
Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort is a living fort where people actually stay and run shops inside, unlike most forts in India.
Patwon Ki Haveli has some of the most detailed stone carvings you will see anywhere in Rajasthan.
Sam Sand Dunes is where most people head for a desert camp and camel ride in the evening.
Gadisar Lake on the edge of the city is quiet and lovely, especially in the early morning.
For a three-city trip like this, sorting your transport from day one saves a lot of headache. A car rental in Jodhpur from a trusted local agency means you start right from your hotel, stop wherever you feel like and never have to scramble for a cab in an unfamiliar city. If your group is 8 or more, a tempo traveller or Urbania van keeps everyone together and works out cheaper per head too.
