The Third Thought has really been rocking it lately. We've been two two Improv Festivals in the last few months and our last two shows have been fantastic! We are excited to welcome our newest member Chris Friday to the group and he will be there on Thursday 3/22.

In a commedia dell’arte company contract dated 1546, members signed in agreement to maintain “fraternal love” and avoid activities destructive to the ensemble such as gambling with fellow players.  This means that over 400 years ago, improv troupes knew that a strong, trusting ensemble was vital to a good performance.  It also means that these commedia dell’arte players, our Italian improv ancestors, had the same struggles with maintaining a strong, trusting ensemble that we frequently do today.

The Third Thought Will Perform at the Gainesville Improv Festival!

We were accepted into the Gainesville Improv Festival this year!!

We will be performing on Wednesday, February 1st at 8:00 p.m. along with The Apprentice Group from Gainesville and Formal Apology from Chicago.

Tickets are $8, $6 for students.

The Third Thought Will Return to American Stage - Again!

We have been asked back to American Stage (163 Third Street N, Downtown St. Pete) for the third time this year! We will be performing at Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay Best Theatre Company on December 18th at 8:00 p.m.

Celebrate the End of the World with The Third Thought

According to author Carl Johan Calleman's interpretation of the Mayan calendar, the world is set to end* on not 12/21/12, but on October 28th, 2011.

The good news is, The Third Thought will be performing long-form improv comedy every Thursday until the end of the world (or the end of October – whichever comes first).

The show will take place at Jack's Joint (2950 Gulf-to-Bay, Clearwater – near Ceviche) at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 – get two for one when you mention this post (because it's better not to end the world alone).

Doing it up O-Town style!

On Sunday, we performed at the Orlando Improv Festival which was pretty much the funnest ever (obviously besides the Del Close Marathon, but that's because it's the fucking Del Close Marathon).

We performed on the same bill as The Second Thought from Ocala, Florida, and their short-form set was awesome!

We had a great show, and it was so much fun really entertaining the crowd. Thank you so much to everyone who made it out! If you couldn't make it up to O-Town, here's the video of our performance, complete with 40 year-old-virgins, cussing high school teachers unions, America's Next Top Child Bride and all!

Every show, as a group, The Third Thought picks a person to dedicate the evening's performance to. It serves as inspiration for our work, challenging us to be better performers and better people. We've done Del Close, Bob Saget and Richard Simmons. Last night we dedicated the show to the Black Eyed Peas. Each cast member silently picked a Pea to be for the show and held it inside to inform an inspire our work. We told no one who we were, and just kept it for ourselves. When the show was over, we revealed who we were to the other members of the group. We learned that all o the boys were will.i.am and all of the girls were Fergie. Because really, are there even any other members of the Black Eyed Peas even?

The Third Thought Named TBT's Artist of the Day - August 18th

Comedy nerds know Del Close as the hugely influential father of long-form improv. Every year, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York hosts a weekend-long marathon to keep Close's memory alive and kicking in the minds of younger comics.

The 13th annual Del Close Marathon took place last weekend in New York. It featured artists and improv groups like Horatio Sanz, Derrick Comedy, writers from the Colbert Report ... and Tampa Bay's own long-form improv troupe The Third Thought.
