Pokemon Ruby Nuzlocke Update: Arrived in Mauville City!

So, I forgot to do an update for Slateport City, but the only thing of much note that happened between there and Dewford was the capture and leveling up of an Aron. Anyhow, although I normally do updates only after gym battles, or, for towns that don't have gyms, arrivals, since I skipped Slateport and because Mauville is a pretty important city in the scheme of the game (at least in my opinion), I'll be doing an update both for the arrival and the gym battle.

The team suffered its first loss during this part of the journey, and then its second shortly thereafter, with Maude the Whismur and Ziggy the Zigzagoon both being subdued by the powerful Rollout attacks of Fisherman Dale's Wailmer. It is sad to have lost two valuable team members in one fell swoop, and they will be dearly missed, but hope springs anew with the prospect of capturing a new Pokemon, like Roselia or Volbeat, on Route 117!

Pokemon Ruby Version: Nuzlocke Run!

So, I decided that I'm going to play through Ruby again, and what better way to spice things up than by undertaking the Nuzlocke challenge?

For those of you who don't know, the Nuzlocke challenge was created as a sort of "hard mode" to the Pokemon games. There are many variations that you can throw in to introduce new elements of difficulty to the game that force the player to be strategic and precise in battle and training, as well as fostering a sense of companionship with the Pokemon rather than treating them as toys of war as some might otherwise do. So, for my first-ever attempt at the Nuzlocke challenge, here are the rules that I will be following:

All captured/received Pokemon will receive a nickname.

Only the first Pokemon encountered in an area may be targeted for capture, with the exception of shiny Pokemon (in effect after first receiving the PokeBalls from May in Littleroot Town).

If a Pokemon faints, it will be transferred to a box in Lanette's PC designated as the "Graveyard".

The trainer may only flee a battle if all viable Pokemon have less than 1/5 of their maximum HP and/or less than 1/2 of the maximum PP of all damage-inducing moves (a move that will do no damage due to type, ability, etc. does not count in this case).

A Pokemon Center/healing NPC, once used, may only be used again if a.) another Pokemon Center/healing NPC is used, b.) a Pokemon in the party faints, c.) a Pokemon in the party gains a level, or d.) a new Pokemon is captured. However, these conditions are not stack-able (e.g. a Pokemon gaining two levels does not constitute two additional uses of a Pokemon Center).

Items, excluding those held by party Pokemon and PokeBalls, may not be used in wild encounters. Only one item may be used per trainer battle (two in double battles, which may both be used on a single Pokemon). Only one item may be used in non-battle play, and the trainer may not use another item until completing another battle, which cannot be fled from, regardless of any condition determined by other rules. Held items, however, may be interchanged freely.
