“Get down to–” Kendrick paused, eyebrow raising. “You’re still just looking for a bus boy, right?”
"Bus boy, waiter, new bartender. You name it, I need it.”
"My apologies, I didn’t mean to make you wait. But now that I’m here we can get down to business.”
Dinner Date
“Did you now?” she chuckled, glancing down at the menu. “Honestly, I’m quite used to having my meals chosen for me, so…being able to choose is quite refreshing,” she blushed, eyes grazing over each delectable meal, each one sounding more delicious than the last. “I’d…like to try two things, if that’s alright?” she asked hesitantly, glancing up at him for approval, her own habits kicking in.
"How boring.” Thomas commented as he brought his glass to his lips. He hadn’t expected her life to be quite so sheltered, especially after seeing her on stage at the Hellfire. “Order whatever you want, Amara. I won’t judge.”
Caleb glanced up in surprise, taking the bottle slowly and pouring another drink. “Yeah something like that. Uh..thanks for the bottle though. Why so charitable?” he asked suspiciously.
"Put it this way, if you’re gonna drink you might as well drink the good stuff.” Thomas offered with a non-committal shrug of his shoulder.
“Maybe I’m hoping to get pulled over,” he muttered, downing the shot once more before he shook his finger at the bartender. “I said keep them coming, I’m not paying to get lectured,” he snapped, though the insult didn’t quite reach his eyes. In all honesty he just wanted to drown it all in the liquor bottle.
"How about you leave the bottle for our friend here, Jason? I’ll pick up the rest of his tab.” Thomas ordered as the bartender set the bottle beside Caleb’s glass. Picking up his pen as he continued to work for a few moments. “Let me guess, trouble with a woman?”
He kept the letter in his pocket, even as he sat at the bar, losing count of how many drinks he’d had. Caleb couldn’t believe that after he’d finally found the girl of his dreams, one single letter ended all of it. Everything he’d trusted, every ounce of faith he’d put into hoping he was enough for Ruby, and all of it was shattered around him. What was he supposed to do? Chase a woman who clearly didn’t want him? Swallowing hard, he slid the shot glass over the bar, fumbling slightly as he raised a hand for another. “Keep them coming,” he muttered.
Thomas was sitting down one end of the bar, papers strewn all over the counter top as he attempted to catch up on work when Caleb came in. He watched as he continued to drown his sorrows, the bartender filling up shot glass after shot glass. “You going to be right to get home, buddy? Or should I offer you the couch in my office?”
Dinner Date
Amara glanced up at the waitress who approached, halfheartedly wondering if Thomas had ever been with her, though she wasn’t even sure why it crossed her mind. “It’s a lovely choice,” she said as she took a sip from her glass, licking her lips at the sweet taste. “A perfect choice actually, it’s one of my favorites.”
"Now that made all the hours of agonising over it worth while.” Thomas teased as he motioned to the menu. Clearing his throat as the waitress moved away to deal with the rowdy college kids who were crowded around the television. “I didn’t want to be too presumptuous and pick something you wouldn’t like, but my chef is more than capable of meeting any challenge you give him.”
Dinner Date
Amara’s smile grew as she took a seat, placing her clutch on the table beside her as she crossed her legs. “You are certainly laying it on thick tonight,” she teased playfully. Long blonde hair was tossed over one shoulder, her skin freshly tanned from a day in the sun, Amara was well aware of how flawless she looked, and all she could think about was how his gray eyes wouldn’t give her a chance to take a breath. “What are we having?”
Thomas motioned for one of his waitresses to come over, the woman offering the wine bottle for Amara’s inspection before filling each wine glass with the sparkling wine. “I wasn’t sure what you wanted tonight, but this is universally one of my favourites.”
Dinner Date
It took far too long to figure out what she wanted to wear, finally settling on a cutout red dress that hugged her curves. Nerves set in, and she sorted through her clothes once more before finally deciding on her the dress she wore. Once she slipped into her heels and tousled her loose curls once more, the leggy blonde grabbed her bag and headed out, deciding to walk to clear her head. This was it, this was her chance to move on once and for all, even if things between her and Thomas didn’t work out. As she stopped in front of the restaurant, Amara hesitated, before blowing out a deep breath and stepping inside, searching through the throngs of sweaty men before she finally spotted him, a slow smile tugging at her lips. “Fashionably late,” she said with a twinkle in her eye. “And it was worth it, was it not?”
"So if I say I want to meet you at 6:30, I should be telling you to be here by 6?” Thomas teased, motioning for her to take a seat before folding himself into the chair opposite. “You were definitely worth waiting for. “
Dinner Date
The Cellar was packed like any normal night. A hockey game had the more unruly patrons kept busy, but tables were dotted with couples and families who were enjoying a night out. One table in the back was completely vacant, yellow rose set in the middle of the table and an expensive bottle of wine chilling beside one of the chairs. Thomas lazed beside the table, his grin tipping up as he spotted the blonde sauntering towards him. “You’re late.”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
“Don’t give me a reason to part you with it then,” she shrugged, taking one more sip of her coffee before she stood up, long legs on full display as she stepped over to him. Leaning down, she lingered a moment, pressing a kiss against his lips, slowly pulling back as she cupped his chin, pulling away completely after a moment. “See you at 7,” she said softly, stepping away and out the door without another word.
“Right. Maybe I should invest in a cup, just in...” His retort was cut off as Amara stood, all long limbs and an endless tan. He was stunned into silence, amazed all over again about how fluidly she moved. She was a born dancer, it was any wonder the Hellfire had blossomed with her as the main event. His thoughts scattered as she brushed her lips against his own. Agreeing to meet him tomorrow night before stepping away without another word. The woman definitely knew how to play this game.
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
“One thing you’ll learn about me, Mr. Warren, is that I don’t believe in a relationship based on revenge and getting back at each other. I’ve been there, and I have no interest in going back. I don’t…completely trust you, but I’m willing to try,” she said slowly, leaning forward. “But, if you ever attempt to imply that I’m too friendly with my patrons, I’m fully capable of castrating you straight down to the balls,” she smirked, a teasing glint in her eyes.
“Noted.” Thomas replied, finishing off his coffee and placing the empty mug on the table beside the crumbs from his pastry binge. He winced at her implication, his grin never wavering. “You wanna leave my dick out of that equation? I’m quite fond of it.”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
Sex was the easiest thing in the world, it came naturally to her. Dating, getting to know someone was the hard part. But he was willing to put in the work just like she was. She had to put trust in him that he meant what he said, even if everything in her was afraid of falling for another Sebastian. Sebastian was gone, and this was her chance to move on. Finally, Amara nodded slowly and set the pastry down once more, leaning forward. “Alright. I’ll be there.”
“Why do I get the feeling it isn’t going to be as easy as all of that?” Thomas remarked despite her easy agreement. She was wary and the way she was looking at him, he had to wonder what she had tucked up her sleeves. “You going to harass my waitstaff into putting laxatives in my drink? To pay me back for what I said the other night?”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
Nodding slowly, Amara fidgeted with the sugary snack in her hands, peeling off a piece before she set it down. “So…where do we go from here?” she asked hesitantly, her cheeks tinted red at the simple question. She knew how to survive on her own, she’d done it long before she’d met Sebastian. But having to start over was daunting, and now that Ruby had started her own life with someone else, Amara felt…alone, something she’d always hated more than anything. “Is this the part where we kiss and make up?” she joked lightly, trying to lighten the weight that had settled between them.
“We get to know each other.” It was simple, but something Thomas needed. He had made it abundantly clear to the woman that the last thing he wanted was to jump into bed with her. She wasn’t ready for that and if he was honest, the last thing he wanted was for her to start looking for an escape when he had finally got her on side. “7pm, the Cellar...tomorrow night.”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
Amara hesitated but took the pastry slowly, taking a small bite as she listened to him. “I know I’m ready to move on,” she finally said, glancing up at him. “But the last thing I need is to be reminded of him. So if…you and I are going to do this, Sebastian doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t want to talk about him, I don’t want us to talk about what he’s done, or what he and I had. I want to let him go, I need to let him go.”
It would be hard to get over the man when she still lived in the home he had purchased for her. But the reminder of that fact would only start another argument. “You’ve got yourself a deal.” Thomas finally spoke, bringing his mug to his lips as he swallowed down the strong concoction. “Believe me, I don’t want to be reminded about him.”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
Nodding slowly, Amara finally looked up at him, searching his eyes as she swallowed thickly. “I still shouldn’t have acted the way I did. I’m just…used to being told what to do, and when to do it, that figuring things out on my own is difficult.”
Thomas nodded, offering her one of the pastries he had snagged by sliding it across the table. “You’ve been in a serious relationship for what? Years? That’s an eternity of relying on one person. I saw what Sebastian was like in the business world. I can’t imagine what he was like at home.” Finding out who you were after a break up like that was complicated enough without any of the other shit getting in the way. “That’s why I’m not pushing.”
Pain Is Love || Thomas&Amara
His answer surprised her, but somehow she expected it. He’d spent so much time making sure he didn’t cross a line with her, and she’d only second guessed him since they met. “I…I am sorry I overreacted,” Amara replied quietly, fidgeting with her coffee as she looked down.
“You don’t have to apologise, Amara.” He waved off her apology, he didn’t want her to feel bad or overthink this thing. It was something that had been said in the heat of the moment, when emotions and tensions were running high. She wasn’t faultless and neither was he. “I fucked up. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”
