I had an absolute blast at tfcon today! It was wonderful to meet everyone and I am so grateful for all the fanart I recieved! They will be put up into my office so I can see them every dayđ
However, while I enjoyed the event, the table spacing and crowd control was not safe at all. The aisles between booths in the artist alley were not even 2 meters across, and there were multiple chokepoints due to the lack of open exits(there were only 2 single doorways on each side of the entrance!). People who had crutches, canes, or wheelchairs struggled to even move through the packed crowds. Space is a critical element for EVERYONE to enjoy themselves, especially when it comes to the TF fandom where there is a higher concentration of large cosplays.
When it came down to the more popular artist alley/special guest booths, the lines would crowd in front of the other artists so that people trying to buy from them would have to crowd through in order to reach them. This lack of line control is a disservice not to the attendees, but to the vendors and artists who work hard to bring such a large event to life.
I hope that next year, there will be enough feedback for the organizers to acknowledge that itâs time to get a larger venue. The more space, the happier people are, the longer they stay, and the more money they spend. It would ultimately be for everyoneâs benefit.
100%. one of the people i was with at the con was a wheelchair user and navigating the dealer room/artist alley was a nightmare. honestly i can imagine the narrow alleys making it difficult for an independent wheelchair user even if the place was empty.
also kind of a different but related issue but in line for one of the panels people were cutting in front of her like nobodyâs business and the volunteer staff just kinda stood there. tbc i dont think the volunteer staff are evil or anything i just think they could have been trained better for this kind of scenario.
and obviously itâs secondary to accessibility but yeah. i didnât finish my cosplay on time this year and ended up being really glad for it because the crowded dealer room was absolutely primed for someone to accidentally cause injury to a cosplayer or damage their costume, or vice versa. tf cosplays tend to limit vision ESPECIALLY if youâre already visually disabled (hii) and itâs really important for people to give you space for everyoneâs safety, but in that setting that honestly was impossible. again playing cool robot dressup isnât as important as being generally accessible but like you said this is a setting where you kinda expect people to be playing cool robot dressup.
also worth mentioning: this probably didnât affect the majority of you considering the demographic i assume is following this blog but there was not a single family restroom or changing table in the entire venue, even for a regular infant. so if you needed to change a child or god forbid a disabled adult youâre completely screwed unless you had a hotel room nearby to get back to.
anyways i dont often post this kind of thing on my blog but i figured in this case it was worth adding onto bc of the challenges we experienced and i hope this makes people slightly more prepared for future conventions. we all still had a great time donât get me wrong, but yeah there were a lot of accessibility and general safety issues at tfcon this year and i really hope they make an effort not to have a repeat next year
the thing about running into transformers rarepairs is that sometimes youâll go âwhy are people shipping thisâ and just as with a lot of fandoms it turns out that the two characters have never actually had a direct interaction ever in the entire franchise and someone, at some point, went âi think that theoretically if these two met it would be interestingâ. other times, and this is the one that appears to be mostly unique to transformers, it turns out that the characters in question basically made out onscreen in a comic fifteen years ago that no one read and/or everyone forgot about, and the grand total of 3 people shipping them have more basis for it than some of the most popular ships in the entire fandom
the great thing about this post is that tons of people have been tagging rarepairs and im pretty sure i have yet to see a single person bring up the ship i directly made this post in response to

I like *really* don't think hornet would be high femme like every fan artist seems to think she is. like you can interpret her cloak as a dress but like it goes over her arms it's a cloak like the ghost had. I firmly believe she'd be wearing mens jeans and a nice flannel because she found it for cheap and it's durable.
Maybe I'm over thinking this but like idk. feels weird to take a strong, kind of emotionally reserved woman who clearly lives a frugal life while traveling and giving her cute shoes and a cute dress and cute accessories.
she apparently doesn't need food or water but the game does encourage you to get drinks at an inn so I think this is accurate
additionally all or most of the weavers that we see in the game seem to wear something similar to hornet albeit more torn up (for obvious reasons). so i think in general the clothes shes wearing are just, like, typical weaver garb as opposed to any gendered fashion statement. like itâs less that hornet specifically chose a red/pink dress lookin thing and more that thatâs just what everybody wears where sheâs from.
