“She shouldn’t be too hard to find. Mostly she’s in her workshop. Just make sure the area is safe before entering. Sometimes her experiments are.... rambunctious.”

“She doesn’t seem to mind it too much. She was, well is, a repair ship, so it’s up her alley.”

“Some of it could even be considered hobby-work for her, actually.”

“Can you describe what this Akashi does?” 

“Well, she does a lot, but in terms of just what that is: she’s the one responsible for a lot of maintenance on our equipment, as well as experimenting to create new equipment for us to use.”

“I’m sure she does more than that. But those are the two things that come to mind most readily.”

“It’s partly that I’m nervous I’m going to wash out before I even get the chance. I. I want to be an engineer but… I don’t know if I can at this rate.”

“An engineer?”

“Uhm.”

“Well. I don’t want to get your hopes up. But I wonder if they’d consider a ‘practical’ education of sorts.”

“We could really use someone like that. Akashi would appreciate the help I’m sure.”

“But I don’t know if they’d give you any sort of official acknowledgement off the back of that.”

“The college entrance exams. And… I dunno. I mean my attention wanders a lot anyway. Is this just my limit?” 

“Well. I’m not the best judge so I’m not sure how much stock you should put into this, but if you’re not happy or challenged the way you need to be doing what you’re doing now, then maybe a change is the best thing?”

“O-Of course I’m not trying to say it’s something you should do unless you want to!”

“I’m not so sure. I have the knowledge and the intelligence, but I… I’m starting to lose my concentration a lot. I’m tempted to take Center early.” 

“Center? What’s that exactly?”

“Is the work just, not holding your attention?”

“So far? Not that different from my daily life in training from hell. Mind you I’m not struggling thanks to certain advantages but you know what they say– life starts after high school.”

“Oh, is that so?”

She wouldn’t know, really.

“It sounds like quite the challenge, but I’m sure that you’re up to it, Takayama-san!”

“It’s the rainy season anyways, so that puts a damper on things.”
