Tumblr's Top 50 Musicals - Results
I've posted the Top 50 Musicals over the last couple of days, and now it's time to look at all shows that have been submitted - 312 in total! Thank you for participating and submitting your lists, this was great fun 🎭
The scores (given in round brackets) were calculated as follows: #1 received 10 points, #2 received 9 points,..., and #10 received 1 point, resulting in 55 points per entry/list. Incomplete and anonymous entries were discounted. If applicable, the rank achieved in 2022 is given in square brackets.
I ranked the musicals up to #112 (16 points), all shows that scored 15 points or fewer are merely listed in alphabetical order. The logos you can see here represent musicals that weren't mentioned even once.

Hidden Paths 2024
Happy New Year, small canon fans!
Just a quick post to confirm that Hidden Paths will be running again in 2024.
Hidden Paths was created as a low-pressure, low-commitment opportunity to explore the lesser known Tolkien canons (e.g. Sellic Spell, Mr. Bliss, The Notion Club Papers), and create and share fanworks based on them.
The dates will be the same as last year, 14th - 28th Feb, with optional prompts at the start of each week of the event.
For more info on the event and how it works, check out our AO3 collection or our Dreamwidth sticky post.
Looking forward to seeing your creations!

For fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary Middle Earth saga, Middle Earth Emporium is a dream come true. Stepping through its round green door adorned with dwarven runes transports […]

Attention, Tolkien Fans!
Feeling the Monday blues? Need something to look forward to? Why not sign up for the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang?
This is a Tolkien-fandom-wide event in which participating artists create a piece of art to be claimed by one of our signed up authors. Authors will then write a 5k word fic based on the art they chose.
All sign up forms are available here!
As well as signing up as an author and/or artist, you can sign up as a beta, cheerleader, pinch hitter, or treat maker.
Explanations of what all of these mean can be found in the relevant section of our FAQ. Signups for these roles will not close and will get you access to the gallery; however, you must be signed up as an author to claim.
Want to suggest a prompt to our artists? Our suggestions form will be open until May 15th.
Want to see what others have already suggested and get hyped with us? Check out our handy spreadsheet.
Questions? Come and visit our website, which has our FAQs and timeline all set out.
Please be sure to familiarise yourself with the rules before signing up :)
We are open to all characters, genres and ratings, and all canons that fall under the Tolkien fandom umbrella.
Don’t worry if you’re new to the fandom, or you aren’t super-experienced as an artist/writer, or you haven’t read everything Tolkien ever wrote. We have artists and writers of all experience levels taking part in this event, from complete beginners through to professionals. Length of time in fandom and knowledge of different canons also varies. As mods we aim to keep conversations positive and encouraging; we do not gate-keep here.
If you’re worried that your particular fandom niche might be under-represented, then spread the word to your fellow creators, and use the suggestions spreadsheet to make the case for your favourite canons/ships/characters.
We hope to see you on the sign up list soon!

Looking back at January 2001 when I was at the European premiere of the Fellowship trailer in a beautiful German medieval castle.
We certainly had fun back then.

Death of the author: Treating the author’s stated interpretation of their own work as merely one opinion among many, rather than the authoritative Word of God.
Disappearance of the author: Treating the context and circumstances of the work’s authorship as entirely irrelevant with respect to its interpretation, as though the work had popped into existence fully formed just moments ago.
Taxidermy of the author: Working backwards from a particular interpretation of the work to draw conclusions about what the context and circumstances of its authorship must have been.
Undeath of the author: Holding the author personally responsible for every possible reading of their work, even ones they could not reasonably have anticipated at the time of its authorship.
Frankenstein’s Monster of the author: Drawing conclusions about authorial intent based on elements that are present only in subsequent adaptations by other authors.
Weekend at Bernie’s of the author: Insisting that the author would personally endorse your interpretation of the work if they happened to be present.
