Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood: Interior. Every inch of the images is constructed of very fine mosaic. St. Petersburg, Russia. April 2015.
Fun fact about this church: during the Soviet period this church was used to store potatoes which, as you might imagine, was not great for the art. The restoration was done by hand using the original method. It is dizzyingly gorgeous in person

Potsdam, Schloss Sanssouci, Kleine Galerie (Sanssouci Palace, Little Gallery) by HEN-Magonza
The long, light-filled Small Gallery is decorated with antique French Rococo sculptures and paintings by Watteau, Lancret and Peter. No other palace is connected with the personality of Frederick the Great as Sanssouci Palace.
The name Sanssouci - without worries - is to be understood as the leitmotif of the king. His summer home was his favorite and his refuge in difficult times. The location of the castle on the famous terraced vineyards and the preserved decorations from the 18th Century allow visitors to immerse themselves in today. It is noteworthy that the king wanted to be buried on the top terrace vineyard in a tomb. Even in death he wanted to be near Sanssouci. His desire is, even if only in 1991, came true.

I lived just on the other side of that bridge. I miss it.
In 1940, knowing that France was falling into the hands of the Germans, the workers of the Louvre took action. All 400,000 works were evacuated and sent to the south of France. In secret they transported the priceless paintings and statues, and held by wealthy families in Vichy, where they would remain for five years, only returning at the end of the war.The quick action of the workers without a doubt saved the masterpieces from becoming part of the over 5 million works that were looted by the Nazis during the war.
