𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐘'𝐒 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐘. the family has been caught up in hundreds of years worth of calamity, the endless amount of drama and betrayal finally having broken something within the god of thunder. for so long, he believed the only way that he could be a good man was to distance himself from the throne and all those who hungered over it like bloodthirsty animals. when that did not work—- when he still lost his mother, that was when he completely turned into an enigma. the golden halls of asgard’s palace were suddenly far too dim for his heart to take, and so, thor set out on lonesome travels, as if every war he could fight in might teach him something different about himself. it was cathartic, in a way, not to have to feel the obligation of being a worthy king. …cradling little narfi in his arm right now brought him back to a time and place in which family had been everything. it was a wonderful distraction for the emotional turmoil he was in presently. deep down, no matter how corrupt odin had been in his past, thor had always longed for a union such as odin and frigga’s and to have an even bigger family at that. such dreams that he no longer wished to come to fruition; not after witnessing what had become of his own life and loved ones.
“the boys both take after loki, do they not?” speaking aloud what they were probably both thinking, thor nudged narfi’s tiny hand with a finger until the young one grabbed at the god’s massive palm and let out a joyous squeak. thor grinned, proudly. it was sigyn’s tones turning to steel that created a tension throughout the god all over again, golden looks becoming dark and haunted. narfi began to wriggle around some more, but it was nothing for thor to flex his arm a bit tighter to keep the young lad in place.
“the one who did this—- the cause for all of our grief and suffering, he’s the mad titan. the one known as thanos.”
thanos, who would not have been such a threat to the son of odin without those damned infinity stones. earth itself was running on borrowed time; eventually, he would come for the rest of the stones after he finished scouring the entire galaxy. there was nothing within thor odinson that feared this titan. his hatred and anguish ran too deep and powerfully for him to even consider backing down from this fight; as the strongest avenger, he had to come up with something to ultimately save the day. for loki, for his friends, for what little family he had left…
in a dream, odin had confessed that thor had the potential to be even stronger than the ALL FATHER. thor has to see for himself if that could be true.
“as we continue to speak, thanos continues to grow stronger. which is why i must leave to forge myself a weapon powerful enough to kill him and you must hide out someplace safe with the children. thanos will be mine alone to kill.”
with asgard left in shambles, thor was going to more than enjoy unleashing his rage on the murderous bastard.
Thanos. It was a hollow name. There was no face she could put to it, no identity beyond that of the creature who had stolen away her chance at reuniting with her husband. For the sake of having something to hate, her mind brought forth the image of a grotesquely scared warrior, a brute grown fat with his spoils. The mad titan. Had she known the full story, her anger would have been greater still.
As it was, it felt like a fire, leaving her skin flushed and hot, her eyes watering. The beat of her heart echoed in her ears like war drums. Where did she know that sound? She had only ever known an Asgard at peace and while she had known war as the mortals waged it, she’d taken no part in it. Yet there it was, echoing in her as a distant memory. Perhaps it was in the blood of all Asgardians.
Sigyn placed a hand on the back of her son’s head, holding him close. Yes, it was true, she ought to hide them away, find some quite corner of the cosmos and secret them away there, the last remnants of a life stolen from her, where they’d be safe. But how could she? “If what you say is true, I am a wife without a husband. Mother to children who will never know their father. I would have some part in spilling the blood of the one who wrought that fate against my family. I’ll darn your soldiers’ socks if that is all the part I may have, but I will have one. You cannot deny me that.”
She stood, and waited, eyes fixed upon her brother-in-law. A wife without a husband. Something felt hollowed out within her, hope that she’d held precious for a hundred years sunk away... and yet still clung too so tightly. How could he be gone, if the universe still turned? And yet, still, even if he were not, the suggestion enough was enough for fury. Even if he yet lived, somehow, whatever ills this mad titan had wrought against her trickster were deserving of blood.
