Have JGY and QS, I currently do not remember what I decided they were. This is definitely BEFORE QS and JGY discover the truth about them being siblings.
And here you have Madam Jin and Yu Ziyuan, still as sworn sisters. Madam Jin being a merchant and YZY as her bestie master poisoner and assassin.
Then we have Wang Lingjiao and Wen Chao as the villain duo of doom - WLJ being a dark mage who is Not That Good at magic but loves fashion, whilst WC is uh whatever is the opposite of a paladin, completely evil.
Then we have hero folks Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, both elves, both trained by the legendary Elf wizard and warrior Baoshan Sanren.
A-Jing and Xue Yang as well, the girl being a petty thief who starts following XXC after he is blinded and XY is the serial murderer who takes a fascination for XXC. He and SL will clash swords also I know it was only the pinky XY lost, but there was no option for a missing finger lol
So, a little premise is due: I have only seen the movie, but the book is in my to-read list, so don't crucify me.
Also, I have seen the poll results and we really are a hivemind fandom lol

So, AU under the cut!
As said, JC and WWX live in LP a quiet, boring life. Yanli is there as well as their elder sister and it's okay, except it's not. Somehow NHS, the local librarian (?), mentions the existence of the School for Good and Evil, because WWX spots one of the books marked with the school's logo and he is like "WHAT IS THAT?"
And NHS is more than happy to explain.
Now, because I want to keep the wuxia/xianxia elements, I will say that the School for Good is where all of the classic heroes/heroines in wuxia/xianxia are trained, with good cultivation and righteous paths and all, and the School for Evil is where the wuxia/xianxia villains, with like demonic cultivation, crooked path and all, are trained.
So, WWX is hellbent on going to this School for Good and Evil out of curiosity, boredom and all - "you mean, I will be able to invent stuff, fight villains, be someone everyone can be proud of, and also, ChengCheng, Aunt Yu will not be scolding me all the time! It's a win"
"Yeah, sure, but how do you think I-, I mean, a-jie will take it? Also, did you not promise me we'd be together as sworn brothers?"
"... Yeah, I did... You know, forget I said it, I'll go wherever you will go!"
And then WWX breaks his promise and JC goes to find him, just to discover that he is going to the School for Good and Evil leaving everyone behind and JC in particular behind and JC is not thrilled.
Their conversation is cut short by the humongous bird coming down and grabbing them both and then flying all the way to the school.
Now, WWX is really a tad too much arrogant, which is usually toned down by his massive caring heart, but it's there nonetheless and he is so sure he will be in the Good school.
JC, on the other side, really just wants to go back home dragging back WWX and wants to have nothing to do with any school.
And WWX sees the Good school, high in the sky, full of nice trees and all like
And then he sees the Evil School, all shrouded in darkness and smoke like
and WWX smiles until the aforementioned bird drops him off in the Evil school, much to WWX's disappointment and JC's distress.
JC gets dropped off at the Good School.
And both WWX and JC hate it.
They both raise hell, but it is useless. WWX gets draped in wuxia villain red and black robes and given the Red Eyeliner of Evilness, whilst JC gets draped in the fanciest wuxia hero robes and given the Righteous Sword to Smite Evilness.
Neither of them are thrilled.
Cue WWX angry-pouting and JC sarcastically frowning.
There is the whole parade thing and here we meet the Perfect Hero Lan Wangji, all draped in white and light blue, sword in one hand and guqin floating in front of him.
WWX sees him and he is smitten, completely fallen in love.
On the other hand, LWJ and JC immediately hate each other's guts.
Soon after we meet Rector LQR, followed by Good School's professor LXC and Evil School's professor WC.
Once again WWX and JC try to present their case, that there has been a mistake, but it seems that "the School has not made any mistakes".

I just saw the dating sim au and my immediate thought upon seeing WWX as medium difficulty was “ah of course, Lan Zhan is clearly the otome game villainess” where Jiang Cheng is difficult because of his own issues and WWX is difficult because you have Lan Zhan trying to subtly sabotage you and take WWX attention whenever he enters the scene and there’s secret thing of you have to get Lan Xichen on your side before you reveal who you are interested or you will lose his support because WWX runs off with LWJ in the bad ending so clearly there is a secret battle going on that no one but the Lans know about makes it harder
None of this matters but it’s important to me that you know that you have now inspired thoughts of LWJ as a otome game villainess on my brain to love rent free now

wang yue's appearance is literally the dream for demonic cultivator jiang cheng AUs. look at him. he's got the purple robes the hair wisp even the side braids that show up in every mdzs + cql hybrid design, i'm thanking the costuming department so very much
So, whilst I wait for my writer's block to go away, I am delving properly into this AU.

So, let's start from the Lan clan.
The Lans are classically trained and their Gusu Lan music conservatory is famous for being the best one and also expensive af. You must have the money or, in alternative, several high level recommendations and talent.
The teachers, LQR, LXC and LWJ, are also the best ones and trained in both chinese traditional instruments like the xiao, the qin, the erhu etc, and western instruments like the piano, the strings, the clarinet etc.
The Lans also have a generations long friendship with the Nie family, whose last heirs, NMJ and NHS, inherited the music production studio from their father, dead in mysterious circumstances, probably linked to the boss of the underground Nightless City Wen Ruohan.
I will come back in a bit to Nightless city, hold onto this for a moment.
The friendship between the Nie and the Lan surprises everyone until you understand that the Nie production studio is for Power/Epic/Symphonic metal, a kind of metal that uses a LOT of classical instruments.
On top of this NMJ is also the founder of a metal band thus composed:
Vocals: Meng Yao
Guitars: Nie Zonghui
Bass: Nie Huaisang
Drums: Nie Mingjue
Spoken/poems: Nie Huaisang
Classical instruments: Lan Xichen
The Nie music studio is in a constant struggle not to be annexed by the famous Jin Studio, promoter of the AU equivalent of stuff like X-factor, The Voice and so and churning out pop talents out of capitalistic greed masked as "caring for the music".
Their most famous pop sensations are sweet cute and lively pop idol Jiang Yanli and alternative rap pop rage Wei Wuxian. They tried doing the same with Jiang Cheng, but Jiang Cheng really doesn't have the cheerful tones of a pop singer, in spite of having the best voice outof the three.
I did mention that JFM and YZY are one of those who are like “yeah, my child is so gifted and talented, let’s ruin their life forever by forcing them in the music industry” and the Jin studio just did help them achieve that exactly.
Spoiler: this will come back to bite their asses somehow. In fact, the original plan was to have only JYL and JC, but JFM HAD TO let in WWX, son of the legend of music Cangse Sanren, ho had been already the daughter of the myth, Baoshan Sanren.
And LWJ is an avid listener of WWX's music, he is propery enamoured, but neither shufu nor xiongzhang kno because god forbid the Lans listen toanything BUT classical music. This is another thing I will come back later on.
YZY is legitimately furious at the fact that her children's thunder has been stolen that way, but neither JFM nor YZY see that regardless the three do love each other dearly.
And then JGS decides to renew the contracts for JYL and WWX because they are his golden egg geese, but NOT JC's, because his pop album did not make as much money, as in, not being allowed to do anything but pop music, his voice suffered a bit and being the family disappointment did not really help.
Anyway, JFM and YZY fight, he decides to leave in the middle of lunch (a further sin in such a family), JYL and WWX try to convince him not to go without any success at all.
And so he roams the city, trying to find some motivation to go on.
In the meantime JGS has successfully poached out Meng Yao from the Nie, and the band is in need of a vocalist, but who would like to be the vocalist of a symphonic metal band tiedtoa studio barely making it at the end of the month?
NMJ is out of wits. And the amplificators just broke down so he has to finally admit that he needs new ones and so he goes to the Yao&Ouyang music shop to buy some new ones.
In the meantime JC has also reached the same music shop and Mr. Yao has convinced him to try a mic and when JC is asked what he would like to sing he's like "yeah I am angry enough for a cover of 'we're all to blame' by Sum41" and NMJ is casually there too and he listens to JC sing and he feels the doors of heavenly music open right in front of him, has 16 epiphanies and by the end of it he's like:
Anyway. NMJ approaches JC after the performance and he is like:
"nice one, my name is Mingjue, I loved your vibes. What do you say about joining my band?"
He hands out the business card, proves that he is not, in fact, just a creep but an actual person who actually enjoyed JC's voice and is actually trying to convince him to join a metal band.
JC is kind of taken aback, as in "someone just PRAISED me? ME? A RAT? for my VOICE? The same voice everyone I know thinks it's actual CRAP?"
JC my beloved, how about we work together on our self esteem issues?
*coffcoff* Anyway, NMJ makes sure to point out that there is no pressure, he is welcome to try out a session and then if it doesn't work out nothing happens, no one is going to hound him etc. Somehow JC feels better, like the choices he has been given make him feel free to decide for himself for the first time.
And he says yes, I want to come and do this music session with your band, it does sound great if the people there are all like you.
And NMJ is left wondering what kind of hellish situation this one has been living in.
Anyway JC comes back all happy and content, BUT makes the mistake of telling JYL and WWX what happened. They in turn let JFM and YZY know and they basically laugh in JC's face.
JFM: well, at least that lousy studio will finally get annexed to JGS's and disappear.
YZY: you are going to ruin everything,you don't understand anything! You'd better stay here, at least all you'll ruin is us.
*uuuhhhh just a sec, this hit home for me, the author, let me cry in a corner for 5 mins*
*coffcoff* JC, full of dismay and with an ego completely crushed once again, calls NMJ to tell him he is not coming, but NMJ KNOWS that tone. Has NMJ just sensed a shitty family and all of the parental disappointment? Has he just heard JC trying to hold a faint sob from behind the phone? This does NOT happen, not on NMJ's watch! And he is like, look, I am sending my brother, the least menacing person on earth so no one is scared to see me, a 6ft tall buff man with enough piercings and tattoos to scare even the strong of heart. You are going to go with him, let him buyyou a coffee and then decide.
And so it happens. Providence has made it so that the house is empty because JFM and YZY had to take JYL and WWX to the studio to register their new albums, so JC is alone.
And NHS arrives, JC lets him in, NHS assesses the situation, asks a few questions that hit right where it hurts and then he is like: JC, my newly acquired friend, I am not saying you should pack everything you own and come with me, but I am saying exactly that. You do NOT have an independent bank account, you do NOT have a space unless someone grants it from the gracefulness of their heart and you MUST sing crap just to be granted a sliver of sympathy from those who claim to love you. My brother has offered you an space in the band, but really, even if you do not join you are welcome to stay as much as you wish until you know what you want to do in life.
JC: are you offering me this out of pity?
NHS: not pity, I don't have enough of that. It's out of friendship.
And so JC is convinced once again. Maybe staying away from his family will make him assess things better.
NHS calls the whole family and they help JC pack everything. They help him set up his own bank account. He will withdraw some cash at the nearest ATM so that he can then put the funds in the newly opened bank account.
JC leaves a message as in "do NOT look for me atm, I am reassessing my priorities".
And with all of that done JC goes with the Nie and starts living under their roof. He does the first music session as a vocalist and - surprise - he actually has fun, he smiles,he finally can let his voice out freely and everyone now understands why NMJ wanted him as a vocalist.
And as a surprise for everyone NMJ manages to get a contract to be the opening band of a major symphonic metal band - spoiler: it is a success, NMJ's band and studio are launched into the stratosphere, everyone loves the band and especially the new vocalist JC.
But how are the Jiangs faring now? Well, JC's message has prompted the divorce between YZY and JFM, so not great in that sense. JGS has used that to force JYL into an arranged marriage with his son JZX - it's not that the two don't like each other, it's the opposite actually, but they would have loved to come together in different circumstances. In any case, they both do not want what their respective parents had so they work together to make the best out of the shitty situation. They will eventually get married, but on their own terms.
And where is WWX? Well. In his quest to find JC, because the message "do NOT look for me" for him was apparently just a guideline, he stumbles into Nightless City and its many wonders and horrors.
As mentioned, Nightless city is an underground city where crime reigns above everything. He lets himself get lost in the City, he gets tattoos, piercings and a penchant for alcoholism and hedonism.
In any case WWX disappears from the scene, the tabloids will talk about it like a meteor bound to fall. JC wants to look for him, JYL too, but no matter what WWX cannot be found.
This until LWJ, who is still the no. 1 fan of WWX, finds him loitering by a shop. And WWX has changed a lot. His eyes are swollen, he looks like he's not been eating properly and has a hand secured around a bottle of an unspecified alcoholic beverage.
It turns out he has been captured by Wen Chao who - surprise - was a great fan and then forced to sing for him. Which at the time catered to his willingness to have free everything, but then it turned out to be another cage and now that he was spent he had been thrown away like trash.
And now WWX finds himself with a whopping case of trauma and alcohol addiction.
In any case, LWJ cannot stand the fact that the person he has been enamoured with for the past few is now at that point. And so he offers him a meal, he offers him to stay at his house, asks xiongzhang if he could help him speak to shufu.
And shufu is not truly convinced until NMJ and band drops by, JC included, and JC launches himself towards WWX. "Where were you bro, a-jie and I were so worried!"
"I wanted to find you bro"
"I was fine, I wrote to mum and dad that I was fine a few days later, did they not let you know?"
"No?"
"Oh, for fuck's sake."
NMJ interjects: "That shows you ho shitty your parents are,my love"
Yes, in the meantime NMJ and JC got together, NMJ properly courted JC and are now very close to an official engagement.
Anyway, JC lets Yanli know and his prompts her decision to detach herself from JGS's brand. JZX has started his own with some help from MY, now called JGY, ho has in the meantime realized how much of a scumbag JGS actually is.
MY has in fact been exploited for his talent in composing songs and lyrics, he has even been called JGY in a vain promise of being finally recognized as a legitimate son, which has never happened and will never happen, but guess WHO has been treating him like proper family? JZX and JYL, hence his loyalties are all for them.
And so,to recap:
JC is now about to be engaged to NMJ and they both are in a famous studio and an equally famous band andeveryone loves them.
JYL and JZX are marrying and having a child, JZX has hsi own studio which is totally unaffiliated with his father's and everybody loves them for basically being the healthiest and most loving relationship in the whole industry.
LWJ is working with LXC to convince LQR to give WWX some support and maybe having him direct a singing/voice coaching workshop so he has something to lean onwhilst he recovers and decides what to do next
JFM and YZY are permanently divorced and not in speaking terms anymore. I am kind of leaning into YZY finding comfort in WZL's arms, hich will involve more drama when she finds out ho WZL actually is.
I wonder what could go wrong. JGS is not happy, he might even think to go to WRH and get involved in shad stuff to ruin everyone's life, but at this point my brain is failing and IDK, I kind oflike this open ending, but I feel something is missing.
I have had an idea for what I will call Music Band AU. I do not have a plot (yet), my brain isyelling "Scott Pilgrim" likeits life depended on it, but I do NOT want that, I have something a bit different in mind.
So.
I have, as clear as day, the Lans as being classical musicians/traditional musicians and also composers. They play traditional chinese instruments like the xiao, the erhu, the qin, etc along with some western musical instruments like the clarinet, the piano, the strings. I do not have any idea who plays what, I will figure it out later.
Nie Mingjue is the owner of an indie music studio and he publishes mostly metal kind of genre.
He is also the owner of a Nightwish-like Metal band whose vocalist Meng Yao abandoned everything to follow his father Jin Guangshan's Big Brands Studio.
Something he will eventually regret, but ATM we are not there yet.
Anyway.
Enter the Jiangs - beloved and beloathed. JFM and YZY are one of those who are like "yeahmy child is so gifted and talented, let's ruin their life forever by forcing them in the music industry". You know. Like Michael Jackson's parents, or Britney Spears' parents, that turned out oh-so-well.
In fact.
Yanli is a beloved pop idol à la Blackpink and Jiang Cheng is trying but his voice is not made for pop - he does try pop-punk but yet again, too rough, or high, or low, and he's never good enough, for JFM's standards.
And also there is "adopted son" Wei Ying who is doing just GREAT and BRILLIANT job at being the pop idol whom Lan Wangji, dragged out of his shell by Nie Huaisang, bc LXC and NMJ are besties, is absolutely head over heels, so what use is JC in JFM's eyes?
Needless to say, there is a lot bickering, fighting, yelling.
*uh, I have just had a flashback to my experience, no I will not elaborate*
Anyway. And it's after the last sunday lunch gone wrong that JC just leaves before even touching his food and goes in the city. He is thinking a lot, maybe he is thinking of leaving the family, the business, or maybe he wants to start his own label, how much it would cost anyway?
And he finds himself looking at some microphones in a music shop - unaffiliated with the Lans, the owner is probably Mr. Yao or Mr. Ouyang.
THe owner is like, I can see you are pointing big puppy eyes at those mics, do you want to try them?
And JC, full of the whole "you are a failure,you will never be enough" says "Sure, I can try..."
And he sings like a rock kind of song, and y'all know that I am a Jiang "Angel Voice" Cheng truther.
NMJ happens to be in the shop because he needs a new amplificator or something and hears JC.
And he is in awe.
Who is this amazing singer and why has he not heard about him ever. That's the one I want for my band, he is perfect. And he introduces himself and JC is like "you liked that?!"
"Why yes it was perfect, come to my studio, meet my band give it a try".
And it takes a bit of convincing, Huaisang chips in, but JC discovers that his voice is perfect for Metal and joins NMJ's band.
Are his parents happy? Nope and they voice their disappointment, which just prompts JC to just pack his things and go.
Yanli and Wei Ying try their best to mellow things, they don't want JC to go, but JC is fed up.
He goes to NMJ's studio, explains the situation and NMJ and NMJ is like "New Family Member Acquired".
You can read this as MingCheng if you wish, I kind of like the paiting, but only if it's @felinesomnambulist or @bloody-bee-tea (sorry for the tags, you both do write amazing MingCheng fics).
I will probably come back on this because I am enjoying the idea, but I will elaborate once I have kicked my brain around a little.
And it is about time I continued this Pokèmon AU with the Wen Clan and the Yi City gang!
I still have to do the trainer cards, but I will probably delete and redo them all from scratch, cos the ones that are up are uuuhhhh....... Yeah, they are shite.
But one thing at a time, starting with the Wen clan.

THE WEN CLAN
The Wen clan has to be divided in two branches. The Qishan Wen, owners of the Qishan Gym, and the Dafan Wen, who own every Pokèmon Centre and healers of Pokèmon all over the place.
The main members of the Qishan Wen clan are Wen Ruohan, Wen Xu and Wen Chao with Wang Lingjiao.
They are Fire/Other type Pokèmon users and their teams are as follows.
Gym Leader Wen Ruohan:

Centiskorch (can evolve into its Gigantamax form)

Ninetales (regular form)

Wen Xu:

Wang Lingjiao does not fight, she is more focused on Spending Money For Fashion, but she has an Oricorio Baile Style.
With such teams the Lotus Pier Gym did not really have a chance, however the Yunmeng siblings WILL take bloody revenge. With them out of the way, the only Wens out and about will be the Dafan Wens, healers, professors and breeders, the ones who will help the Yunmeng siblings in their hardest times.
Enter Wen Qing, her brother Wen Ning, Grandma Wen, Uncle Fourth and everyone in the Dafan Wen Clan.
As mentioned, they are mainly doctors. Wen Qing possesses the ownership of the biggest and best Pokèmon Centre in the whole continent, with branches all around.
She has a squadron of Chansey helping her out, as well as a whole team of healer Pokèmon, which is composed of:
Blissey (her own and also Head of the nurse Chansey squadron)
Flareon (as sign that she is a Wen, but this Flareon is the most well-behaved Pokèmon ever - also this one provides emotional support to other Pokèmon)
Bellossom
Aromatisse
Hatterene
Ivysaur (a Grass/Poison pokèmon, wonder why she caught that one for *winkwink*nudgenudge*)
Wen Ning, her brother, is her assistant and nevertheless will end up with a Ghost type Pokèmon, influence of WWX. He then has a team of:
Chansey (it's WQ's Blissey's brother).
Litwick (the Ghost/Fire type, he is a Wen, but also he has had WWX's influence rubbing off him. It is a very polite Litwick)
Vileplume (both him and WQ got an Oddish each, but then they evolved it in different ways. Whilst WQ got Bellossom, WN got Vileplume
Ditto
Scorbunny (caught on Lan ground, with LWJ's blessings.)
Stufful (the actual owner abandoned it and WN did not have the heart to leave it behind)
Grandma Wen is a Professor, the others being LQR and Grandma Yu. She has a very well behaved Arcanine as companion. Uncle Fourth helps her out along with the rest of the Dafan Wens.
But then HOW did LSZ/Wen Yuan become a Lan? I admit I had not figured it out, but I will go for a great ttragedy during the time when JGS wanted to try and be the new WRH, so a-Yuan got adopted in the Lan Clan whilst the Dafan Wen was fleeing the persecution enacted after WRH's death. This until JZX takes over and the Dafan Wen can go back to being healers. However by this time a-Yuan is fully integrated in the Lan clan.
A-Yuan will learn the truth and he will be allowed one (1) fire type Pokèmon.
The surviving Pokèmon that were WRH's, WC's and WX's will "retire" to a more tranquil life in the territories of Professor Grandma Wen and will not fight anymore.
