Hayley was still recovering a bit from Homecoming. She had had a bit too much to drink and by a bit she meant way too much. She didn’t regret anything she did except maybe not drinking enough water afterwards. Fresh air seemed to be doing her some good, so she was taking a long walk around town. Of course as soon as she hit the busiest part of town, Hayley managed to trip and fall, not realizing there was someone there to witness it. “That’s so embarrassing.”
After her second defeat since the beginning of school, Val was deflated and discouraged. She was on her way to the dress shop to return her homecoming dress that only reminded her of her failure. “Not as embarrassing as losing two times in a row.”

Blake almost thought he was free to walk away when she asked those questions. “I make…pretty much anything. But, I don’t really have many demands to cook things from anyone besides my mom and my boss. I wouldn’t call that catering…Why?”
“I want to throw a party after homecoming,” she announced, giving him a smirk. “An after party. You’d be invited, I guess. Would you be in?”

‘And your nominations for homecoming king and queen are..’ Margo’s eyes instantly rolled at the sound of the PA lady as she rummaged through her locker for her books, side eyeing the squealing under class men who were anxiously awaiting the names to be called. ‘Valeria Soto, Charlotte Jamison, and Margo Carlson!’ The instant she heard her name beaming from the louder speaker Margo’s eyes widened as her head turned from her locker, “What the fuck?” She whispered in a tone of disbelief. “Why did she just say my name?!”
Val stood tall and proud at her locker after hearing her name. Of course she got nominated, she was the only logical choice. She looked over at Margo, who didn’t seem quite as ecstatic to hear her name. “Somehow you got nominated,” she said, crossing her arms. “But you don’t have to worry that you’ll win, you’re running against me, remember?”

“I don’t know who your opponents are? What kind of voter would I be if I didn’t weigh my options,” Blake chuckled. The pet name didn’t seem usual for Val. “Uh, I guess?”
“Hmm,” Val mumbled, realizing she was also unsure as to who she was running against. There were a lot of smart, beautiful girls at the school, so she was sure to have competition no matter who was running. She knew that she had to do something to put herself above the others. “Well, Blakey, what kind of food do you cook? And, uh, do you cater?”

Kelly had been making her way out of class, hardly paying attention when she had been stopped, blinking in surprise before taking out her earphones, “What was that?” She asked but the flyer was a bit of a giveaway, “Oh! -” She carefully look the flyer, eyeing, “Wow, this is creative.” She commented before looking up at the girl once again, “Think you’re in with a shot here?” She asked.
“Thank you!” Val yipped, which was uncharacteristically cheery of her. “I think people will be more careful than they were when they elected,” she rolled her eyes before continuing. “Arden.”

Blake was honestly just trying to get to class. All this homecoming court stuff was starting to get on his nerves. Just his luck, he ended up bumping into Val as she was handing out flyers. “Uh, hi,” he replied, taking the flyer so he didn’t piss her off. “Yeah, well, we’ll see,” he mumbled.
“We’ll see?” Val chuckled, eyes getting wide. “Please, Blakey, who else would be fit to stand with that crown?” She studied the boy for a second before saying, “It’s cool that I call you that, right, Blakey?”
“After electing a cheat for president,” Val said, standing tall in front of a small group of people whose conversation she interrupted, “be sure to vote for a worthy homecoming queen!” As she finished handing the students flyers, she turned swiftly around only to see the face of another potential voter. “Oh, hi!” She reached back into her bag and pulled out another flyer and handed it to them. “I’m hoping to get your vote!”

“I get strep once and all of the sudden I come back and you’re in the fucking hospital,” Val cried, trying to wrap her head around the whole thing. “Once again, tell me exactly what happened and who I need to ruin.”

With the Homecoming dance approaching, it had quickly became a popular topic and for people like Sutton who didn’t particularly care about Homecoming or winning a cheap plastic crown for the night that meant spending as much time as possible off campus. She walked out of the frozen yogurt shop with her usual order and sat in the outdoor patio, eating her pomegranate frozen yogurt. “What are you doing here?” she asked when she recognized the person on the sidewalk near her.
Valeria held Nicholas’s hand tightly as they walked towards the yogurt shop. It wasn’t a popular spot by any means, which is why she liked it so much. As she got closer, she made out the face of Sutton. Val sighed- the two didn’t talk much, but they were in the same clique which meant small talk galore. “I’m getting yogurt,” she said, pulling her ‘brother’ back from trying to open the door. “Is that okay with you?”
