Damian rolled out of harms way when the beam was reflected back towards him, taking a few more wild shots before getting into cover. He was hoping that trick would’ve worked. Though he most likely had the lead now at the very least. Still, just in case he didn’t he was going to continue the hunt.
Only seconds remained as he tried to find Brandon. He looked up at the banks of light high up. He noticed something….odd. It looked like there was more to this field than what he was using. Was that how Brandon kept getting the slip on him?
He climbed up, grinning devilishly as he saw what he had hoped. With this he could fine his prey and take him out with ease.
He moved around quickly, grabbing a grenade pickup he had found up there. It didn’t take him long to find where Brandon was.
He activated the grenade, cooking it for a few seconds so it would go off sooner when he tossed it at Brandon.
His heart rate increased and his smile widened
This was it, he was going to beat him now.
He saw Brandon look up at him. He waved and chucked the grenade down at him. It didn’t have long to detonate now, His last plan may have back fired but this one couldn’t.
He loomed over him, being wary of Brandon’s movements. Last thing he wanted was for him to shoot him.
Brandon heard something clatter to the ground behind him. Difficult, as he’s standing very near the edge, but not impossible. He spins.
The grenade beeps it’s final tone and Brandon leaps, over the grenade, sailing to the ground below. He held the reflector over him, hoping that would cut some of the damage, but the beams from the platforms kept hitting him.
Brandon landed, and rolled. Though the landing still hurt his knees.
Brandon pulled the reflector on top of him, and laid on his back - even if Damian had another grenade, he didn’t have time to detonate it, and the reflector would handle and errant blasts that came his way. Besides, Brandon knew what was coming.
The platforms slowly lowered to a more reasonable height, not touching the ground, in case there was someone under them, but enough that someone could hop off without having to duck and roll.
Most of the sounds in the field stopped. The lights all retracted. Brandon swung himself under one of the banks quickly, holding the reflector out to stay and damage.
A bright blast of light sweeps through the entire field.
“Angel of Death deployed.”
The calming female voice says over the intercom.
“Match completed. Final score. Damian Wayne: 000, Brandon Hollister: 000. Match tie. Please return to the lobby to set up your next round.”
Brandon nods mentally, while slipping out from under the bank of lights. The lights had probably hit him too much when he’d jumped, sent him to zero, and there was a 90% chance Damian hadn’t gotten to enough cover to be spared by the final ‘Angel of Death’.
"Nice job Damian. If you had known about the Angel of Death you’d’ve won by a landslide, probably."
