Kadyn, a stentorian Mermaid. A smaller stentorian and not very aggressive, even though she tries to be sometimes. She gets teased by her fellow Stentorians for acting like a Vortixian.
Commission for @wolfthedragon ~
My biggest project so far! A commission for @roselyse ~ Her coworkers as Merfolk ♥
Drawing people as Merfolk is my favorite thing!
The 5 Merfolk Races
In our vast universe the ocean contains 5 different types of Merfolk with their own unique physical traits and abilities. Here’s some pics and explanations.
Atlantic Ocean : Pivish Merfolk
The Pivish are a very sophisticated race. They have responsibilities to tend to, lists to make, and gates to guard. They pride themselves on being precise and elegant in everything they do. They are known for having the most developed societies (and also having the most uptight personalities).
They are a very prideful race and do not like to get violent. When they do they run the risk of skewering their target or any other bystander that gets caught in between.
Indian Ocean : Vortixian Merfolk
Vortixians are known for being vibrant and beautiful. They live in beautiful grande anemones and are the most likely type of Mer to find relaxing in the sun. Sunbathing is pretty common for Vortixians to enjoy, but they are also obsessed with the stars. Or as they say the pearls of the sky. They enjoy vibrant, beautiful things like themselves and often collect beautiful items.
They don’t worry about fighting or injury like the Pivish do; they heal very quickly, and are even immune to poison. They enjoy their warm waters without a care in the world.
North Pacific Ocean : Serenite Merfolk
We say the North Pacific Ocean but you can pretty much find a pod of Serenites anywhere. Serenites indulge in simple things and don't tend to stay in one place. They're always near family, being sure to never leave a fellow mer behind. Unlike all the other races, they breed at practically any time of the year and live life without scrutiny.
Though they’re big and slow, they have very tough skin and even plated scales on their tails.
South Pacific Ocean : Stentorian Merfolk
Stentorians tackle the world head on, taking risks and knocking heads. Like the Pivish, Stentorians are full of pride. The difference between them is that they love a good fight. Warriors at heart, a stentorian is always looking for a quest to complete -- something to succeed at.
Some Merfolk find them abrasive, but that may be for the best. Every sharp point on their body is chock full of venom. The potency of the venom depends on the individual but most Merfolk prefer not to take the risk.
Stentorian waters are the only territory that Serenites will not stay in for too long.
Southern (Antarctic) Ocean : Desdomite Merfolk
Desdomites have adapted to the freezing cold waters of Antarctica and live in seclusion with one another. They are mostly very quiet, saying only what they need to and using their curiosity and quick learning abilities to develop technology. They have developed other ways of staying warm because of this, but the main way they stay warm is because of their insulated hair, which they wrap around their neck and chest area.
Though the Pivish are known for their incredibly developed societies, Desdomite technology is far more advanced. It simply isn’t known to other Merfolk.
In fact most Merfolk don’t believe that Desdomites even exist.
WHICH VAST MER ARE YOU?
The Vast universe has 5 distinct types of Merfolk lurking its oceans. Each has their own type of look and culture. What kind of Mer are you? Take this quiz to find out!
A commission for @kofukune ~ Her as a Serenite Mermaid! Kofu drew a Koi Mermaid a while back and wanted me to draw it too. Here’s the one she drew!
When she drew this it brought to my attention the fact that boobs work differently underwater. I have to keep that in mind when designing their tops in the future. Looking forward to drawing more Merfolk!
Crest, a Vortixian (Tropical) Mermaid. Based on a lagoon triggerfish. The coloring is a bit messy but I’ll get it down eventually. I had a lot of fun coloring her!
