Some songs reach you first through feeling, before you even begin to grasp the meaning of the lyrics, and it is always hard to explain why This album had an unusual number of moments like that.
From the very first stages of writing, through arranging, recording, and mixing, the songs kept revealing slightly different charms and possibilities each time. Rather than feeling like they were simply being completed, it felt closer to saying they were growing
When I think of songs like 404, (I'm a Dancing) Cactus, and Ups and Downs, Taeyong always brings his stories from a place slightly off to the side. Strange and interesting things, excitement and fear, even a sense of lack, he eventually translates all of them into his own language. I was always curious about where that kind of inspiration came from
While walking together through unfamiliar cities, watching performances, and sharing drinks deep into the night, there was something I gradually came to realize.
Whether it was a shared memory, a joke, or a question, once something reached him, you would eventually come across it again somewhere in a song Even while on military leave, he would pour himself into it to the point where it almost felt excessive, and only after emptying everything out would he leave the studio with a lighter expression on his face.
Everything that built up that way became this album I'm happy that I could help fill a part of this journey. I hope that even after a long time has passed, people will still remember this album
