Uber Brand Experience

Bits + Atoms: The idea at the heart of Uber—using technology to move the physical world.

An interesting example of brand & visual identites evolving, a pair of designers re-designed Uber’s brand guidelines into a digital & interactive online format that can be adapted more easily and is much easier to interpret for designers working for Uber, I think we’ll see an increasing trend of interactive brand guidelines moving away from traditional PDF’s in the next few years, being able to program is an increasing requirement for designers.

Business card design, although I don’t have time within this project, I planned a range of various card designs for each various department  & seperate marketing cards to be given out to the public.

Brand guidelines poster 1, switched to cmyk for print but I have no idea if this style will print without massive banding / loss of detail, well, there’s no turning back now, will try and get some small tests printed and ‘maybe’ fork out £30 for printing the rest,

Mission patch + embroidered mockup, inspired by Space X’s illustrative mission patches but keeping within a more minimalistic style, though space X really capture the ‘epic’ in their designs.

Experimenting with a slightly different style inspired by an old / vintage technique some designers & sign painters would use by spraying paint with masks selectively to create a grainy texture that adds depth. sucks that the default resolution in tumblr is so low

Preparation and writing skills

Identifying a topic/theme Think about your own practise, make sure it goes hand in hand with your practical work. Dont worry about setting a title in stone as it will change.

Identifying theory Theories we might use could come from psychology, education etc… the key is to apply the theories to the themes of you dissertation. Just dont use it for the sake of it. Use ‘isms’ like modernism, postmodernism etc.. Suggested authors: Technology - Walter Benjamin, Susan Sontag City/Urban - Guy Debord, Charles Baudelaire Gender - John Berger, Rozsika Parker Society - Michel Foucalt, Susan Sontag, Roland Barthes Psychology - Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan

Triangulation: Using two or more methods to gain information.

In the 1000 word synopsis you have to include your proposed primary research methods.

Cover Page - Your title, name, student number, course title and module code, tutors name and supervisors name. Abstract - A self contained summary of the dissertation, don’t reference things you’ve put in the actual dissertation. It needs to be readable on its own. Contents - Page numbers, chapter titles etc… all the standard fun stuff. Introduction - 500 to 700 words, explaining what the essay will investigate, make references to the texts/artists etc.. that you will draw from. Mention research methodologies, A good structure for the intro is to do a small paragraph to summarise each of your chapters in the middle of an opening and closing paragraph. Chapters - 1500ish words per chapter, keep them distinct from each other but have the overall theme running through them all. Link the chapters together, e.g. ‘as stated in chapter 2′. and make them flow into each other. Conclusion - summarise all that lovely writing you’ve done. Might comment on the future of the topic, where will things go next?

The current logo, still struggling with readability but I’ve just been starting at this thing for too long to make any improvements on it currently and there’s not a whole lot of time left, + simple noise gradient style that I quite like, would like to illustrate some scenes / backgrounds similarly, has a sort of retro-isn / minimalist feel
