Happy hump day!

Nature is all around pretty great, but what is your favorite place to get outside?
Favorite outdoor place?
A park
The woods
Suburbs
The city
Hiking trails
Open country
Other?
Hey, Jess here!! Rook and I have some fun content planned for this upcoming week but I thought I would make a little post with some cool nature-mental wellness facts! Sources linked below.
1 - Regularly interacting with nature improves memory, cognitive flexibility, and attentional control.
2 - Interacting with nature is proven to lower stress.
3 - It only takes a few moments in nature to begin receiving effects!!!
4 -Being out in nature gives your nervous system the perfect chance to rest and recharge, leading to a calmer attitude and better sleep
5 - And for these reasons (and more), spending time in nature can lower irritability, loneliness, anger, and restlessness
Now, how can we get out in Nature more in ways that are actually feasible? Here's some ideas:
-taking a 5 minute walk (or just walking 2-3 laps around your house or apartment complex)
- Sitting outside while you read one chapter of a book / for one subject of homework
- eating lunch outside
- Going outside and touching a tree/some sort of plant while you name 3 things you see and 3 things you smell
- Offer to take your neighbors dog for a walk

Todays naturewalk...
I got outside today and walked around my local park. This time I also saw a rabbit, and a bunch of little pill bugs! It was nice to be reminded that life exists outside of my little echo chamber I've holed myself into. Get outside for a few minutes today and try to clear your head! I promise, it helps! :)
When I was a little kid, the woods were my safe place. They were endless and inviting, and I never felt alone and abandoned when I was out there. Like the woods were alive and there with me - and technically, they were!
I specifically remember a pond somewhere off behind my house. It's all fuzzy now of course, but I know it existed. I know I felt safe there, tucked away in the trees watching the bugs and frogs at the pond.
Lots of adventures were had with imaginary friends out there. It felt easy go make up friends and play with them. The woods traveled the barriers of normal life.
Lots of stuff happened. Lots of stuff I would rather forget - what I remember of it at least. But the woods were my safe place through it all. There truly is something extraordinary out there - you just have to get outside and look!
Its the whole reason I made this blog. Somewhere along the way I lost it, I forgot the magic. But now more than ever, we all need a bit of the magic of the outdoors

It was almost too cold to go out, but I threw my coat on anyways.
It didn't last long, but here's a pretty picture!

Got outside today, and I feel so much better! I highly reccomend it!
It's still pretty cold - screw this northern weather - but I did see a squirrel hopping around a tree, and some birds. It's nice to remember that other creatures exist :)

Hey guys! I'm theWoodsSing, or Rook, and I created this blog to document the ongoings of the wooded areas around me!
I have been obsessed with the woods since I was a small child - although I don't remember a whole lot of my childhood haha. This year I decided that I'm going to get myself out of my depressive slump and get back into nature!
See you all out there!
